  1. There's a paper by George Onmonya (2007) which discusses age in Nigeria, although I understand that the NFA are looking into tackling this problem and trying to find out real ages. It isn't just related to the African countries, but I know that there has been more coverage since Phillip Osundo was caught lying about his age in Belgium. A player called Michel Schmoller (Brazil) who joined Figuirense in 2004 stating his DoB to be 10/6/1990, but a confession from his father stated his DoB to be 11/11/1987. It is interesting read Onmonya thoughts, but there isn't much in terms of sources.
  2. Blue team could do with some filling out! I play LW or striker if need be.
  3. Said to be at Kosice? Surely it can't be that hard to find out. He is at Kosice. A blog says that he is not yet 16, but is 1.89m tall and plays in defence (possibly a full back). http://futbolmanya.blogspot.com/2009/03/ingiliz-kulupleri-bu-brezilyalnn.html Lubomir Korijkov (Was on trial at Bolton wanders January 2008). 12/1/1993 181cm Defender Favourite player and Club: Berbatov and CSKA Sofia. His dream is to play in the Champions League Wise has could have slipped in Newcastle are heading for the Champions.....<hip>.
  4. Newcastle United have taken MFK Kosice prospect Lubomir Korijkov on trial. The 16-year-old is a Slovakian youth international and has caught the eye of the Magpies' scouts. Newcastle invited him for a trial spell in the North East and he travelled to England on Sunday where he will spend a week with the Premier League club. "Korijkov is an outstanding central defender specially for his age," Allen Bula, head of football development at Kosice, told the club's official website. "He has clearly made his mark at international level, where lately MFK Kosice has been approached by top European clubs enquiring about him." SkySports
  5. Just back from the game and a few points: We seemed to play in spells and then die off only for Arsenal to hit us on the counter. Two blocks from Harper and Taylor prevented us going in 0-1 down at half time. The penalty from Oba Martins was shocking, it was as if you could tell from him shaping up exactly what he was going to do. Unfortunately Bassong has picked up an injury (looked like he was holding his groin) today and I hope he isn't out for too long. Beye came in and straight away we created a chance with Martins striking the ball just past the upright. Lovenkrands chance after a ball in from Duff as well, I thought it was going to be a goal, but somehow Almunia blocked it. 0-0 at halftime I was happy, but Arsenal looked very dangerous on the break. Second half and we just went to shit. Ryan Taylor had no need to foul Clichy twice, although the referee played advantage for a long time until they lost the ball. The goal was just poor marking and an easy finish. Calderwood and Hughton's biggest showing of inept decision making was not taking Taylor off straight away for a substitute. He was clearly struggling, even walking off the field! 10v11 against Arsenal you could see them over running midfield and it was no surprise to see them score after a poor Duff touch. The third looked like poor keeping from Harper who was beaten at his near post, although how easy was it for them to pass it through our team? Harpers distrubution was poor, it like he can only kick it long and when the crowd urged him to give it to a full back we looked more promising going forward. Owen and Ameobi (I didn't agree with the booing) did nothing when they came on, bar a weak shot that Almunia saved easily. For the last 15 minutes Arsenal controlled the game, taking the piss as we couldn't get near them. Must win games will be Stoke (a), Boro (h) and Pompey (h) as we won't get anything against Chelsea.
  6. McCrudden and Ranger scored according .com Team: Alnwick, Tavernier, Dummett, Inman, Morris, Taylor, Adjei, Folan, Ranger, Williams (Ferguson 72), McCrudden (McGorrigan 87). Subs n/u: Johnson, Bath.
  7. A few of my thoughts from the brief times I have saw them play: Ngo Baheng - He has pace, but was too one footed and caught in possession meaning he passed the ball backwards more often than not. Ranger - A good target man, with close ball control and and eye for goal. Doninger - He can look average with a poor passing and set pieces, yet is on a decent scoring run so must have decent finishing for a midfielder. Kadar - The most promising player before his injury who is great in the tackle and can pass his way out of trouble rather than route one football. Lua Lua - He has never really got involved in the few games I have saw, a prime example was in the FA Youth game against Liverpool (4-2 defeat) when he stood on the wing and complained throughout the game. Krul - He could be a good goalkeeper, but if he doesn't get a chance then he will leave us. Godsmark - Small and his pace is his best asset, but he doesn't deliver enough quality balls into the area when its needed. Tozer - Its hard to say whether he would be better than Edgar as they were very similar in the game I saw, but a spell on loan could do him the world of good.
  8. Newcastle are playing Everton reserves on Monday night (7pm ko) at Whitley Park. I think I might go along and see if they play the new guys. Also from a lad who actually played against these players very recently, he said Vuckic was the standout.

One time Newcastle player Jamie McClen on the quayside last night.
  10. I've not played as much football as I would have liked, but I'm looking forward to this game. It was a shame I couldn't make the last one, but I've got my holidays at work sorted.
  11. I thoguht Llambias said he would join up with the first team in the summer?
  12. When Souness was here he wasn't a fan of Winsper's work on the strength and conditioning side of training. He basically thought it was a shit exercise and waste of time and tried to discourage players from taking part with 100% and reserve it for his training time. It doesn't seem to be a coincidence that we suffered heavily from injuries under Souness' when he is basically saying strength and conditioning training is shit.
  13. Caio Ferreira's representative as well I think.
  14. It wasn't too bad, bits and pieces. The Man U fans only started singing when they went 2-1, but a few brief songs as they equalized.
  15. When I used to play I was told this was one of my strengths. The ability to pick out the run of a team mate or a pass into space that triggers a movement before the other team can react to it (in the Professional game before the spectators see the play unfolding).
  16. Bolton exploited the huge gap between midfield and defence. Jose Enrique stepped up to try and stop Davies, but he was able to get the ball to M. Taylor. Bassong went across to cover Enrique, it's questionable whether he should have moved across, but if he managed to block it we would have said it was excellent reading of the game. Collocini had his man marked, perhaps he could have realised that no midfielder was tracking Gardner, but then that is 3 variables he has to keep a check on (a) the ball (b) his player © another player. Steven Taylor could have came across to cover as he had a clear view of Gardner's run or he should took over marking Collocini's man and pushed him on. Ultimately its a bad team goal, which could have been prevented if (a) a midfielder had tracked Gardner (b) Taylor had shouted to Collocini to cover the space.

  19. Its hit the half way mark of the season just about and the bet is looking a bit naff. Lyon are top of Ligue 1 by 3 points with the same number of games played. Inter are top by 6 points with the same number of games. Celtic are top by 7 points and same games as Rangers. Anderlecht are top by 4 points with all teams having played the same number of games. Bayern are 2nd, but level on points with Hoffenheim (4 goals difference). Real Madrid are still 5th, but a massive 12 points behind Barcelona. I think they are going to ruin it. My stake was £3.50 and think its about £200 if it was to come off. I heard that Real were unbeaten recently so they might have been doing some catching up! Lyon are top by 6 points with the same number of games played. Inter are top by 9 points with the same number of games. Celtic are 2nd level on points and same games as Rangers. Anderlecht are top by 4 points with all teams having played the same number of games. Bayern are 4th, but 4 points behind the leaders HSV. Real Madrid are 2nd, but 7 points behind Barcelona. Still clinging on, but think the italicised ones are going to kill it.
  20. Whats the final date thats been decided? I'm going to book it off work so I can definately make it this time!
  21. Everton fans seem to be very confident, but I think we can nick this one. We have player coming back from injuries and I wouldnt say it was our defence that was our achilles heel. It will be a scrappy game, but I think we will edge it 2-1.
