again i'll just agree to disagree over the semantics of it, for me you you restrict the other team rather than control the game itself it is possible for a game to take place without a team 'controlling' it btw, happens most of the time tbh -

They're two different things though; 'controlling a game' to me requires control through the midfield, whereas being solid defensively to the point where the other team know they can't break you down just isn't the same thing. Disagree tbh, you can have control in a number of different ways it's not just about the Barca way of dominating possession. Quite frankly every good manager wants control of the game there's just different ways of going about it. Agreed. For once we've agreed on everything in this thread. "Containing" is exerting control by definition. Contain - control or restrain (oneself or a feeling). with the ball you can control the game and by definition the other team without the ball you can not control the game... I disagree with this totally. What does control mean? Influencing the course of events. As has been mentioned think about all the times a Wenger team lost to a Mourinho side sitting deep and counter attacking. Who has been in control? Passing sideways and creating nothing but looking susceptible on the counter attack isn't control. You're not exerting any meaningful influence. Possession isn't control. Take the boxing comparison - "trying" to press isn't controlling the bout. Throwing punches, having the centre of the ring isn't controlling the bout. If i'm a counter puncher - I consistently make you miss most of your punches. I'm connecting mine. I'm looking the more likely to get the KO. I'm winning the rounds. The bout is going how I planned. I'm in control of the situation. I'm in control of the bout. Despite fighting off the back foot. Despite surrendering the centre of the ring (would that be the boxing equivalent of possession?). I'm exerting control over events. we'll agree to disagree and as i said ages ago it's just semantics but you do not control a game of fucking football with 15% of the ball -
well, i would argue that unlike enrique or cabaye this lad hasn't really done enough to justify wanting his move...the point of these people coming to us is to perform and get their big money chance, he can't even be arsed to perform* for us most weeks but seems to want the payoff without the work *just my take on it, i'm one of the first people to forgive players in our squad due to the woeful coaching they've had (among other things) but sissoko is the one player who doesn't really get a pass for me because his game is about athleticism and drive etc. which at times he seems barely capable of doing Well if he doesn't get a move then I'll be happy to see him stay here. I disagree that he doesn't show drive or athleticism, he's our only midfielder who makes forward runs which is why he ends up dribbling past one player too many while Jack Colback stands back and watches. You could argue he lacks love for the club but that's just the game these days. If we want players who bleed black and white we should have kept Ryan Taylor and played him in midfield. Oh yeah, we tried that though didn't we? No, I mean pretty much the only thing he brings to the table is drive and athleticism but how often does he consistently dominate the way he should? That's what I was getting at, at least Cabs had a class 6 months, can't remember Sissoko having a class 6 game period personally.

I don't think Klopp is a money-chaser. He's more about the 'project'. If he can get assurances and the huge backing required to get a team from 'there' to 'here' he'd be willing to listen. Saying that, Leicester would surprise me... a lot. In many ways, we are Klopp's dream. Sleeping giant needing someone to lead them to glory. Makes me so sad do you think this is still klopps dream btw? he spent years rebuilding a crippled giant only to get too close to the sun and have his wings nicked off him by the rich kids the reality of football now is no matter how rich leicesters owners might be, and have no idea about that, they're not rich enough to stop players wanting to leave the club in the event one of the big boys come calling honestly wonder if klopp will fancy signing up for that again -

christ did easy ryder write that?

He generally gets the new manager bounce when he goes to new teams, hence why he's done well at Palace so far. The season we finished 5th was down to a lot of luck. We never had that many key injuries, we had two strikers in the form of their lives and managed to score an amazingly good goal to shot ratio. During that season we were also lucky that teams never managed to punish us as well as they should have done, also a few teams also had bad league seasons. A big factor that season though was that many of the players had never been trained by Pardew with his crap tactics, the same happened a few years ago where January transfer kept a us up. I guess that's it. So Palace should be crap next season or is he more likely to succeed there? You guys did buy a lot of technical players, which English managers aren't exactly the best at using. His football should work better at Palace if he's in-charge of transfers, surely? They would be a good bet to stay up next season but it will be a case of good players who play well despite him. In the long run you would have to fear for Crystal Palace, yes Pardew maybe going in for players like Cabaye now but once he runs out of good players who used to work for him then he'll never find anyone good himself. As it's been said, wait until the tide turns, Pardew can change it, he reverts to his usual crap good it long tactics. Next season with Palace will be classic Pardew peaks and troughs imo but as he'll still have a load of basic cloggers in his squad and the people to make the odd thing happen like Puncheon and whoever then they'll be lower-mid table by the end and not in serious danger most likely. For them it'll be considered a good season, and rightly so. If he's allowed to add 4-5 of his own players this summer then that assessment may need revising mind

that turan move is beyond comprehension like why not pay half the money now and agree to let him play there until january, or get atletico to loan him somewhere or something....anything but pay 24m for him to not play for 4 months, jesus and with RvP going is Rooney their only senior striker now? well hernandez but he's not good enough...wonder who they go for then, they surely can't be thinking of going the whole season with just rooney EDIT: benteke maybe if he's looking to force a move?

i'm on tenterhooks here like, feels like ages since i've last been span a line of bullshit by the club, need my fix hurry up minutes!

Did they change their writer since SackPardew? They wrote much better back then, this one just doesn't read like a serious message. serious doubt any of it was just one person like

robben is dutch and van gaal loves him, plus he's the wrong side of 30 now and was injured for most of last season no?

That is so obviously not going to happen Robben and money makes sense, fucking Muller

He's absolute fucking toilet.

Doesn't actually say he was questioned about it either mind, they might have been speaking about his favourite colours or something.

Love the need to clarify that it's a "soccer match". no sports direct advertising there, somehow

not sure myself, who is going to pay top wedge for sissoko atm? just not seeing it and cabella's value will have certainly only gone down after a year under our crack fucking coaching team sensible option is to keep both and hope mclaren gets a lot out of them (from the club's perspective) and it's why i suspect they'll aim for a system that can be based on having a heavy but mobile, goalscoring midfield with one up top
-
assuming we got the guy, and for some reason i think he's going to be our first major signing, i'm interested in how they see him, de jong and cabella all fitting into the team as all three are AM's that doesn't even account for sissoko of course wonder if mclaren will go for a version of 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 utilising only one actually striker because i suspect as ever that a major sticking point for us will be paying the money required to sign a decent forward...

You can't blame a manager for everything like. You can't just let him off the hook because he had bad managers Staggering, utterly staggering opinion considering the level of coaching, tactics and selections we've endured in the last 4-5 years. At various times Sissoko, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Debuchy, Janmaat, Ba, Cisse all played well under that poor management. A poor manager isn't an excuse for playing s**** No one said it was, only that they are not playing to their potential consistently and a better coaching staff is more likely to bring it out. Even though all of them players had their moments under Pardew it was really was just one massive missed opportunity.
