  1. could be that he'll never loosen the purse strings as such but will allow to be spent what is available (more available this year than last, more again if we have a a better season coming, more again a few years down the line should we get into the champs league etc). it's been stated already that the wage bill has increased so he is willing to let costs grow if we are in a position to pay for it. when people say "loosen the purse strings" should they really say "spend more of his own money" ? it was me who said loosen the purse strings and i've explained what i meant, old ground but he's not really spent any of the money we raked in from sales on fees himself yet - doesn't have to release any of his own money but if the club are breaking even inc. player sales (is that even close?) and we're doing well on the pitch i'd like to see some more club generated money released, doesn't have to be shitloads as i've said
  2. i'd say we've gone a long way to proving that unless injuries cripple us at some point we're a better team than most of the other 'contenders' for the top ten i'd also say a lot will depend on what we do in january and injuries/suspensions in defense...can santon play CB well does anyone know? just out of interest

assuming he keeps it up he'd surely be one of the only outstanding english managers around, no? certainly managing top flight clubs just seen redknapp is to have heart surgery as well... It's just extremely tedious how we can't just enjoy a good spell without constantly going on about how "insert player name here" is gonna leave. Who isn't enjoying the good spell, you? Should be ashamed of yourself really, we're doing great at the moment and Pards is too!!

  5. Same, I've been arguing this for ages. My only doubt is that there are clubs out there who can make Carroll-esque offers which are hard to turn down for any club. That's just football though. depends on entirely ashley's motives really, if he's running the club primarily to improve it on the pitch it doesn't matter if someone offers 20m+ each for them - he shouldn't be taking it imo as he's got something that works now, gambling on replacing them well again would be insane tbh however if his motivation is to claw some money back he spent then there's only one way he'll do that really isn't there? he'll do it a faster by selling 2 players that cost 8m or something for say 40m suppose this would tell us if carroll was an honest anomaly or not (assuming there's any truth in it, which i doubt)

watch him blaze a trail with us this season then get hyped to oblivion and get the england job after cappello fucks up euro 2012
  7. not even on the amount of them? we're still short in areas man, i like who we bring in when we do but it wouldn't hurt to have another decent non-african striker and some proper defensive cover
  8. Gave up on the big-spending idea a long time ago, quite pleased with the prospect of us being an 'anti-Citeh' i did say loosen the strings a little, for example they may have identified someone coming out of contract next summer but instead of waiting and gambling they get him on a free spend 2-3m to land him in jan and push on this season
  9. be good if he somehow starts enjoying the fact his team are flying and winning games like, might loosen the purse strings a little more for jan
  10. It's a weird point to make but everything he says is true. All the world could see that once he came on for Best against Wigan we started to pin them back in their half and he also helped create more space for Cabaye. I wouldn't say its one of the five main reasons for our form but he has helped. yeah but that was our last league game man, he missed the early part of the season through injury as well - that comment effectively only applies to the wigan game itself

Yeah he's invested more than 300 million in something he plans to run into the ground. Also Asia? I forgot we'd signed Kim Jong Park last summer. Time for you to do some reading. “I was told that the man behind the deal was Mike Ashley and I sat with his representatives over three days thrashing out a deal. I was keen to know why they wanted the club and they were quite honest. They wanted to market their sports goods in the Far East and would use the club to help do this.” - Sir John Hall. how longs he owned the club now? i can tell you for sure sports direct goods are not being marketed prominently in the far east, in fact given that most of it is made in the far east and fake shit is rife all over the region it'd be a monumentally stupid reason for buying a football club no?
  12. We're the same with Keegan though, so we can't really have a go at them for it. By we, I mean me and cp40. Aye, but for every you and cp40, there were people on the other side of the fence to even things out, and then you had me in somewhere in the middle. With the scouse, the likes of you and cp40 would seem conservative and balanced. I've met Swedish Liverpool supporters who says things like they don't mind losing a game, because King Kenny is there. I find that sickening, and it's not made any better by the fact that I think he's no more than a decent manager with a red ugly face and that he's a whinging little t***. A no more than decent manager who has won trophies, not many of them around are there? I should have added "these days". The mans a winner, simple as. We'll see how many the goon wins this time, My money is on zip and i'll be happy to be proved wrong. Norwich at home for fooks sake 29 shots on goal, 15 on target. Our finishing was woeful, but while we are creating so many chances they'll soon start going in. It was a disappointing game considering the amount of possession we had. Won't win you the league though. This argument is going nowhere and to be fair again the tide you are saying some decent stuff here. What really interests me is the board and fns tolerance at L'pool. Would you settle for 5th this year - it looks pretty likely..... With the decline of quality under the previous owners, we were only playing catch up in the last two windows, probably the next one too. No we won't win the league this season, never expected us to. I did, and do,expect top 4 though. I think ALL fans are tolerant when they believe they've been given the right man for the job. Hodgson is the first manager in my life time who wasn't appointed because he was the best man for the job. That's not to say that they've all worked out, they haven't, but at the time of appointment they've been the best for our club. Even Souness. He was doing so well in Scotland he was the obvious choice to take over from Kenny, it didn't work out, but he was the right appointment at the time. Kenny Dalglish is the right man now and he'll be given a chance by the fans for a long while yet. And if you don't get your top 4 expectations sated? We'll be there again next season then. In the last 50 years we haven't finished lower than 8th, I think we'll be top 4 this season. I think they'll turn on him. In a way i hope you're right but the modern football fan (even of the scouse ilk) is a fickle beast I agree with you but there's still a very large hardcore who will stick with the manager when they can see what he's trying to do. We have as many bellends as every team and they knee jerk after every match that's not won, but they aren't the fans that matter are they? As with Rafa Benitez, the fans actually in the ground will support the manager until such time as he appears to have taken them as far as he can. No fans I spoke to at the match wanted to see Rafa go, we all knew how he was being starved of money. He did a fantastic job under dire circumstances in most fans opinions. Kenny Dalglish will be given even more tolerance by the fans who count.
  13. i said this in the match thread but cabaye was marked out of the last two games imo when we were 4-4-2...it was clear to me yesterday that HBA was exactly what was needed to exploit the space left by their midfield pushing onto cabaye in our half and so it turned out imo...although he didn't "win" the game his being on the pitched opened the game up for us and thankfully obertan had been replaced by an actual footballer ba/best & HBA for me, has to be, at home anyway
  14. Seems to have dispensed with the curtains and all, good stuff Krul
  15. all else aside watching spurs and now this it looks very much to me like cabaye has caught attention and he's now being pushed deeper and deeper to get the ball, he's pressured the moment he gets it too deep in his own half basically that should leave space for someone to exploit but with 2 up top there's no-one to do it, solution must be HBA
  16. is the upshot of this thread that (a) we've had a fairly patchy transfer record in the past with some expensive failures and (b) we may or may not have turned a corner in signing duds 'cause our most recent signings looks good? that's more or less what i got out of it like there's a lot i could say with my thoughts on this thread but rather than be negative i'd say that what might be a major difference from the past is we now have a man doing the scouting and player assessment who (i think) isn't involved financially in the deals or even involved on a first team coaching level, so his choices are removed from a lot of different pressures that other club managers would face i can only see this as a good thing he'll sign some shit at some point, make no mistake, but presently the club look fully justified in handing a lot of power over to the guy as he seems like he's going to find more gems than duds at the moment

dave's crazy negative these days like, can't be argued

on the subject of this there's an honourary mention for gervinho...thus rendering the entire thing worthless

    Graham Carr

fair point by logic mind, there's a whole thread about how the press are out to get us and write shit about us all the time; we start getting positive articles for once and that's not good enough either
  20. fucking hell i thought everyone was taking the piss but he is actually injured then? awesome, gosling then?
