isn't that rationale that the number of big clubs is fixed for time immemorial, or is your problem that Abramovich took your toys away for a few seasons and you didn't like it? what are you referencing as "big club"? existent fan base or historical trophy haul? or both? should no-one else have ambition unless they've got >40,000 fans a week already, what exactly are you saying? closed shop to you either way? what about if citeh take the title off you for a few years...same, no You become a big club by earning it through hard work and success over a long period of time. Teams don't wake up one day able to fill an 80,000 seat stadium, it requires a natural progression that keeps football fair. There's nothing inherent to Manchester United that makes it a "big club," we earned it, twice over. Obviously we're helped by being from a major city, and there are only a couple dozen teams that could ever hope to attract enough support to be a "big club." But isn't that how it should be? Are you suggesting that people from Berwick-upon-Tweed (pop: 25,949 ) should feel put out that they'll never have a championship winning football club? In this modern age of only vaguely local teams, isn't the size of the local community a pretty fair determiner for potential success? It seems to me that you just take issue with my dislike for Chelsea considering I support a football club which is also massively rich, even though the money comes from utterly different sources. Well I'm sorry I think that teams should build towards their achievements instead of buying them with money that has nothing to do with their club.* You apparently don't have a problem with this. So I ask you, what's the limit? What if someone buys Sunderland and spends 300 million making them champions? What about Bristol City? What about Yeovil? Port Vale? Kidderminster Harriers? Forest Green? Harrogate Town? I'm serious, at what point does it stop being acceptable for a club to be pumped full of millions that isn't theirs? Not only do I dislike this from a selfish perspective, but it's also damaging to the clubs involved. Developing success over time isn't just to my mind fair, its also the only way clubs can be sustainable. Chelsea pre-Roman weren't exactly a nothing team to be fair, they were regularly amongst the top teams and were making an impact in Europe. They were a decent club, most people liked them (probably because of Zola.) When Roman goes he'll have left the club with two league titles and an impossible debt. Chelsea will likely go the way of Leeds United. Putting aside my hatred for the Abramovich era, I think I'll find that to be incredibly sad. And what will be the legacy of the club? Not more love for them or a memory of a great side (although the 04-05 team were a great side,) but ever more unsustainable wages for the rest of us. I want my team to be challenged and of course beaten (I'd never want our league to be like France) by teams which have built to be sustainable. Last year was briefly brilliant because it was Arsenal v United again. This year it's a three way between us, Villa and Liverpool. I love that (despite my utter terror at the thought of Liverpool winning the title again, but I won't pretend my hatred there is rational) and I miss the 90s and early 00s title races between us, Leeds, Newcastle, Arsenal, Villa and a Chelsea with a soul. *I suppose it's worth considering where all of Villa's money is coming from, but really they've not spent much more than they will have earnt through ticket sales and TV rights. I imagine that Lerner's biggest contribution has been to free them of financial worry, hence their ability to make that wonderful gesture to Acorns hospice. long post so can't be arsed to address it all but talking of money that isn't yours, man u is owned by americans who took out loans to buy the club...you refer to what will happen when abramovich leaves chelski well what might happen when fergie eventually packs in and you have downturn in fortunes on the pitch (which history tells us is likely will happen)? as for the time and earning it factor fair enough in a sense but what should they have done, not aim as high as possible so not to earn it too fast...drip feed themselves success 'til it was acceptable to the other big clubs and they were allowed to join? you make some really good points and i agree with some of them but i hate, HATE the snobbery people have about money, it boils my piss...whether it's borrowed from banks like ours was, and some of yours is, or arab oil money or russian oil money it's still money and that's that good luck to anyone who makes inroads into this pisspot of a league i say, couldn't give a fuck...hope man city buy the league as well next season, at least it'll mix things up a bit and get taggarts face a deeper shade of purple when he complains they bought it

Let's be honest though, he's not going to play up front ahead of Martins, Owen, Viduka, Lovenkrands, etc. but there maybe a slot in midfield (I know, I know) ahead of Butt maybe. Just looked and saw that Smith has another 3 and a half years left on his contract fuck in hell great smiley by the way, my feelings exactly....fingers crossed everton come back with another offer

people forget (perhaps) the kinnear appointment was supposed to last a month or two but was extended for the purpose of continuity to the end of the season suppose everything will depend on how long ashley realistically sees himself as being around...if he thinks he'll not be able to sell within a year or two he might well go for a short-medium term appointment of better quality prolly sell bassong to fund it like!

see what you're saying and if i thought for a second MA would put the necessary effort and finance into getting the next manager i'd agree 100% however i could see him making another, possibly worse appointment given he evidently can't see problems with in the normal run of things i'd imagine there are actually worse people out there than although none spring to mind right now other than ron atkinson -

Not so sure about that anymore. The Bolton thing was a sign. palacios was fuckin immense yesterday, unless he gets injured i think they'll slowly start to pull it together with him chopping people up properly instead of fairy's like jenas and zokora keane will bag some goals as well...i WANT them to go down but they won't, they just won't Will you change your mind if they don't win a league game in March? i will if they don't win a league game by may! you looked at their fixtures? i haven't being honest, why do you mention march? hard month for them? remember 4/5 wins will get them to safety (probably), can't see how they won't beat 5 teams...unless they've played most of the shit already, but they can't have played it all They don't have a pretty run in like. I have and I see maybe one win for them in March and that's if Boro play shite. just looked, they've got 4 home games they'll win imo (inc us) and they'll scrape a draw or two on the road plus there's always a surprise or two, see where you're coming from though - it might be very close for them They'll beat us will they? Why's that then? i said it's my opinion, and it is for a number of footballing reasons - doesn't always work out that way of course, and i hope to fuck i'm wrong anyways guess a lot will depend on how much injuries dictate how strong a team each club can field if we could field harper, beye, bassong, colo, enrique, jonas, barton, nolan, taylor r, martins & owen then i'd fancy our chances actually but change that team to harper, taylor s, colo, bassong, enrique, duff, guthrie, butt, taylor r, ameobi & smith/viduka then i don't see where the win is coming from, and that discounts a truly horrible series of injuries/suspensions we're well capable of having imo they have more pace in all areas, especially midfield & i think we'll be overrun as the away team...if it was at home we wouldn't be having this discussion as they're fragile away, but so are we any reason you think we will win? other than "we always beat spurs"...

you see them against villa away recently? he was immense, looked like he'd literally try and run through a wall if bruce told him to -
leaving aside the fact that its the law that we beat them, i think that our team matches up pretty well against them and we MIGHT have a near full strength team out by then fair enough, your opinion but i disagree with it
-
nani, anderson, hargreaves, carrick, ferdinand, rooney, ronaldo, berbatov, tevez if he signs or if he doesn't then whoever they sign instead 100m there, not including your <10m signings of which there are shitloads too you've the best manager and players by far, just don't try and deny the money factor mate
-
fucks sake i'm gonna get tortured for that opinion aren't i?
-
first point is shite basically, with the possible exception of chelski (& you've probably a more expensive squad than them tbf) you have far and away the most expensive and expansive squad...add it up, go on try it... second is of course also true, as many clubs including ourselves have proven spending the money isn't enough, it needs to be spent by the right man

they're up, stop deluding yourselves, they'll beat enough shite to stay up

Stupid comment tbf. They buy players with money they earn. What you want them to do, never sign anyone just to give other teams more of a chance? spend cap, see how fuckin good they'd be then

same for scholes imo... wonder how mclaren gets on when he eventually gets back from holland...looks to be doing OK there at the moment, maybe something to be said for going abroad for a different perspective? I'm not sure I agree about Scholes - he's always come across as quite fiery on the pitch, something of a leader, and it isn't always the big talkers who command respect. Could well be wrong, I just reckon he's got something about him. don't think we'll ever hear from scholes again once he retires...giggs on the other hand perhaps EDIT: can't wait for beckhams attempt to manage though, his mrs doing the kits and that like delia half cut...it'll be fuckin mint

to anyone who doesn't think they bought it - hate the idea that roman's dirty money isn't good enough but manu's worldwide exploitation tours and soulless marketing makes it OK for them to have 100m worth of players on the pitch at any given time fuck them when fergie leaves, i'm gonna prey to the gods for a plague on all their houses, cunts to a man every last one of them
