If someone bought the club and broight with them money and ambition, but only at the cost of changing the club name to something else. (Newcastle Red Bulls, Newcastle Magpies, instead of Newcastle United) would you still support the club and be happy for the new money and ambition, or would you rater still the club be named NUFC but not fight at the top of the league. The scenario is meant to be future you looking back at what you'd rather have wanted of the two scenarios.

I think it's referring to comments made (IIRC) after last season's Pardew v Ashley head-to-head meet where Pardew kept his job, but that to continue keeping it he had to finish top 10 next season. I may be wrong remembering here, but I think some mention of the sort was done last summer.

You're nitpicking on a hypotethical situation, with set outlines for the events that happen in this scenario? What the f*** man. We all know it would be even worse than the scenario put forward, but that's not the question here at all. The question is if you'd accept a renaming of the club for success, using Red Bull as the example in this hypotethical scenario. The scenario of the question would be the same no matter how you replaced the company/new owner at hand. Say a big sheik comes waddling in with tons of cash, but he won't spend it until we're the "Newcastle Magpies" because so many clubs have "United" in their name and he likes Magpies. It's the question that's important here, not the potential buyer. I just do not like red bull at all so that was why i gave that response but to answer your question properly, disregarding the new owner completely, no i would not accept the renaming of the club for success. Would be interesting to hear the reasoning from someone who voted they wouldn't mind though.

Why in the name of god would you pick Everton of all teams? Because the NY Americans on here love Liverpool, Flip.

Shaaaaaaaiteee what a goal!

All success does (I imagine) is increase your expectations. Most of the baggage it brings is quite frankly embarrassing and certainly not something you would ever want to trade your club's identity for. I doubt a Man City fan truly feels any more enjoyment than a Rotherham fan, or a Forrest fan, or whoever. what. They haven't traded their identity though. They are still man city. You reckon when that Aguero goal went in that wasn't the single greatest moment of them supporting their team? Well what's the point we may as well turn it in if success brings "embarrassing baggage". I think you've completely missed what I'm saying here like, which is a canny effort considering the post was 3 lines long I'm not saying Man City have traded their identity, I'm saying that I wouldn't want us to trade our identity for what they have, as ultimately enjoyment of the sport is all relative. And are you trying to say success doesn't bring "embarrassing baggage"? Glory hunters, the "global brand", the fucking Poznan etc. I'm not saying this ought-weighs the enjoyment of winning trophies, just that it's another thing to consider. I'd pretty much take anything other than the shit we're being served up at the moment mind, it's just boring on every level. On that note, witnessing Newcastle win the league would be the greatest moment in my life, but if I didn't die from alcohol poisoning, I could probably live with going a while until the next trophy just to avoid glory hunters and the apathy towards winning trophies (Oh, nice, another trophy as expected. Yay.) my Man Utd supporting mates have. Is that a weird thought?

Removed the middle option as it wasn't really a part of my initial question thought process.

Well, yes. That's not exactly the question though. The question is that if in the future, you'd look back at this chain of events, would you find it had been worth it for improvement on and off the pitch. Or would you still look back in anger at changes? Also the main question was more about the name than the kit, mind. Should've specified that a bit better. For the record, I'd not want any changes either. NUFC or bust.

I'm just curious as to where the opinion of the Newcastle fan base on N-O lie in regards to a hypothetical situation. Been thinking a bit today about what would happen if we were bought by a major franchise, say Red Bull, who have been rumoured to be interested in buying a PL club and have a previous record of rebranding clubs they aquire. Would you have openly supported a sacrifice of tradition in exchange for outright ambition and investment? In this scenario (with the use of pretend hindsight, we know this happens in this scenario) Red Bull buys Newcastle and changes the name from NUFC to Newcastle Red Bulls. They sack Pardew and appoint a quality manager (maybe even bring Keegan back) and back him with tons of money, stating the ambition is to be a CL challenger and a title challenger in due time. After a few years of investment and such they reach the goal, and we're a title challenger on a regular basis once more and reignate the nickname of "The Entertainers" with the brand of football played. Looking back, would you have thought the exchange of the NUFC name for a brand name would've been worth it? Would you rather keep the traditions of the club or have the club achieve quick success? Basically, what's most important to you in supporting this club?

"Pardew and his management team remain big admirers of Ameobi for his work both on and off the pitch" tells you all you need to know about "Pardew and his management team." Going by some reports it's only Shola's presence that's stopping Pardew getting his head kicked in by the other players, no wonder he likes having him around. Was just about to say. Damn Shola and putting the Frenh in headlocks.

I don't like it when a european final is between two teams from the same league. For that reason I want an Atletico - Bayern final, and Atletico winning.
-
Got some Borat flashbacks "Follow me. I like-a you. Do you like-a me?" So dreamy though

Might have blinkers on but wouldn't want Moyes. Not because he didn't do well at Everton, but because of the complaints (albeit complaints reported by the media, so who knows) coming out of the Man Utd camp about his behaviour and unwillingness to listen to players/others, rather citing his Everton players as examples of how things should be done.
-
They can't sack him until the NY stock market closes. If he's not sacked until it opens again he won't be sacked this time either.

Rosenborg decides to fuck me as well. What an absolute megacunt of a betting day.
-
The frustrating part is that stabæk deserved to win and Odd getting two lucky goals, one an own goal. Fuck my life. Luck gone and everything is bad forever.

I am not enjoying this. I need to stop betting big.

Don't have time to go too in depth, might do one later. Still: Most favourites should win, though I'd probably stay away from all but three matches as it's still early days in the season and the good/bad teams haven't settled in yet. A lot of jostling for position. Aalesund, Vålerenga, Strømsgodset, Molde and Rosenborg should on paper all win. Only the latter three I'd be confident betting on. Rosenborg have a 1-2-0 in their first three and haven't really inpressed offensively, but it's a matter of time until they find last years rythm. Bodø/Glimt are newly promoted and have deceptively good odds against Rosenborg, even at home. Rosenborg should win, I even have a cheeky -1 bet on them. Strømsgodset and Molde are the other league favourites and they're playing well and are in good shape. Rather safe bets. Aalesund and Vålerenga are better than their opponents on paper but haven't yet preformed well this season, and as they're expected mid-table these are the kind of matches they may fuck up, even at those low odds. The other three matches: Brann - Lillestrøm, Viking - Haugensund and Odd - Stabæk are harder to call. Brann have played some amazingly attacking footy in their three first matches, yet constantly fail. Up against a team like Lillestrøm who basically just go from either winning well or being raped it's hard to know which team will show up for them. Viking - Haugesund is a weird one as well. Haugesund finished third last year and haven't lost players, Viking are a good side and have added a good forward. It could go either way. Odd - Stabæk, ya'll know how I feel about this one. Stabæk are criminally underrated having watched them in pre-season and in the first three matches of this one. Odd are a mid-table side with one good player, however that player, a 40 year old Frode Johnsen, is a matchwinner and candidate for Tippeliga top scorer this year. At the odds Stabæk has though, one would be silly not to put a quid or two on just in case.
