L'Equipe: Modibo Maiga fails medical; transfer 'abandoned'
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
The Nigerian, Ideye, is the inferior player, imo and he went to Ukraine for 9-10 million euros. Last year was his first season with Socahux, so I assume he has a long contract, and he will be coveted as he was the second best player (imo) on a team that stunned everyone by qualifying for Europa. Not to mention his youngish age and potential to improve. all of this will raise the price. -
John Obi Mikel's father found alive in Nigeria
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Elbel1's topic in Football
Yes it was a terrible tragedy. Two petrol carriers collided causing a massive explosion. If I remember, she died of heart attack from the shock of the incident. His older brother, who was also a professional footballer, also passed away very recently in Nigeria from heart condition. I really feel for the guy. Outside of that Carling Cup winning goal, the boy has experienced nothing other than personal tragedy and injury/career setbacks since aroudn 2008. I hope he can make it back to where he was. Obi's a funny guy. He's always smiling when he talks, much like I always look at the ground. He may not look it, but I know these times are tough for him. The area where he is from and his father was staying was once great, but it is no longer safe. This happens all time in South America and is gaining steam in Africa. Yobo's family was endangered last year. One can only hope it is abot money and nothing more sinister. It is a testament to Mikel that he could go out and play well in a Premiership match after learning of this the same day. I hope his family is the best. -
Think Chelsea will finish above City personally. The team best suited to fight Man U for the title, I think. No conclusions to draw from matchday one. A newly promoted side at home is one the easiest fixtures City will see. Stoke away is always a battle, and they really should have won that match.

L'Equipe: Modibo Maiga fails medical; transfer 'abandoned'
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
This guy was brilliant last year with Ideye and Martin. It is a shame for Sochaux to lose him and Ideye in the same window, but I will gladly take the boy. Would prefer someone with more experience and proven goal scoring, but Maiga is very talented with the pace that we lack upfront outside of inefficient Lovenkrands. However, if Nigeria does disgrace themselves and call Ameobi, we will be without our top three strikers in the new year which is worrying, this is of course assuming Mali qualifies, which is definitely not a given at this point. They have two tough matches left. -
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Ejike equalises in the 93rd minute!!!!!!! NIGERIA ON THE MARCH TOWARD MEANINGLESS TROPHY!!!!!

Diame, Rodallega, Figeuroa, Moses, and Watson are all entertaining players. Wigan play decent football. The only sides in England I truly find uninteresting/will not watch are Stoke, Blackburn, and Fulham. Ben Watson? I was avoinding naming all of the foreign Black players. Actually, Jordi Gomez is talented as well. Actually, I would say France is the most balanced league. Bad weekend for me, lost money on Chelsea this morning, OM threw away a two goal lead and Nigeria are about to go out of the WYC.

Nah. Real Madrid/Barca >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Other Spanish sides. They'd p*ss allover the Prem too, though. Quite probably. Doesn't mean the overall quality of La Liga is better. The quality of the bottom half of the Prem is grossly overrated. Some absolute dross in this league. Fair proportion of fans who mistake 'excitement' for 'quality' and swallow Sky's "bestest league in the world s****". A game can be exciting and end-to-end but full of poor football. Poor football = mistakes = goals =/= quality football. Definitely. I find it funny how people say Spanish players couldn't handle the physicality of the Prem, as if it's some kind of achievement that we have the most brutal league in Europe. Most English players would look like fish out of water in Spain. Look at Pennant, sole creative outlet for last years cup finalists in England... as much use as a chocolate fireguard in Spain. Pennant is rubbish in England as well. Pennant is rubbish everywhere. Pennant is rubbish generally.

I find the bottom half of Spain and Italy to be unbearably boring. England, France, and Germany are the only leagues where I am strongly interested and entertained by all 20/18 sides in the league.

Weird to play Stoke and drop your two best aerial players.

Right, you didn't want the guy who is better than all of our players.

You help people up to their feet by grabbing their hand ffs, not by pulling them by the neck. -

Just helping him to his feet tbh, games would be raining pens if this happened every time players did this. Please stop. -
Ba and Shola really shouldn't be on the pitch together. It simply does not fit our personnel and the way we should be looking to play.

I think giving Taylor a 7 is overly generous after that sequence where he was the second to last man back and decided to try and take on three Arsenal players, leading to break. Suicidal. -
Was my favourite player at the club not too long, but I genuinely hate the guy now. IT will be a good day when is released from his contract next summer. His slightly above average abilities are not worth the other rubbish.

Sorry, but Barton is the one who lost his temper. He no onlty initiated the argument, but continued in a physical altercation once both were stood up. -

Is Barton safe because he saw yellow? Otherwise, that is definitely a three match ban from the FA. -

Genuinely can't wait to see our new signings play. If we can just keep everyone we have and add Pieters and unnamed striker, we should be a very interesting side to watch at the least. -
They were terrible in the first half. Match really should have been over after 45 minutes.

I cannot believe Kuyt recovered so quickly. Hard man.
