Being a good player apparently. Yet, he has won the same amount of league titles as Wegner did as a player (1). Like Sir Alex he has finished top goalscorer in the top flight of a domestic league with over 30 goals. Yet people like to think these two were s**** players & that is how they became good managers, there are zillions of s**** players though & not all them are very good football managers. This is one of the most ridiculous and nonsensical comments I have ever seen posted on an internet forum. It indicates the logic and reasoning of an intoxicated four year old. One thing I will say in response is that both Wenger and Ferguson waited quite a while and put in quite a bit of managerial work before landing their dream jobs. Shearer has never managed anything at any level. You want to put your football club at the hands of someone without even assistant managerial experience?

Support would probaly not be as high as you think. Newcastle is not popular at all in Nigeria. In fact they are mostly a subject of ridicule. I have taken alot of stick over the years for supporting them. Also, you have to realise that Nigeria already has about 20 players in the Premiership, and most people already support Arsenal or Chelsea. However, I think most folks are just disillusioned by the fact some oil barons (who most likely acquired alot of their funds on the backs of other people) are going to splash 400 mil on some foreign club when clubs in the Nigerian Premier League do not have pitches to play on.

Why exactly?...I mean he's a very good player, but his period at Newcastle has been a massive waste of money for the club and a massive waste of time in the "prime" of his career. -
I doubt Kevin Keegan has backed anyone to takeover the club. He would look like a real idiot if he quit he club in spectacular fashion...again...only to still try and be involved. The man out to stay out of the club's matters really. I just hope the Nigerian consortium realise they have no support from anywhere. Honestly, most fans of a club seem not to want Nigerians anywhere near their club, so why go where your not wanted? Also, I hope they realise no one back home will care or support them. But regardless, I think all the Nigerian hating that has come out is a bit ridiculous though.

He's one of the best left backs in the world ffs.
-
I don't think he is really to blame for Chelsea being down. Uncharacteristic mistakes in Chelsea's midfield have left him out to dry twice. Once, he came up with a great save, once he could only parry.

Really didn't like the look of Clichy's leg there.

Sensational football from Bolton that forced an Almunia save btw.

Unbelievable statement. I'm at a loss for words. ok they are good footballers, (apart from kuyt and martins), but they are all stupidly overrated. I think all the players on Toon Argy's list are quite good. Except for maybe Carragher....he is kind of what I see taylor being during his prime. Terry is quite dominant. Oba is very talented imo, and has been productive throughout his career. Taylor suffers from what Raul suffers from. Fans want to discredit him because of the class around him. This is somewhat true...Deco and Ballack are both great players with international pedigree, while Mikel and Essien control both dominating ease (well Mikel does it with ease, while Essien is more of a workhorse.) But you can't deny his goal record. Show me another midfielder that matches it, and you'll be showing me a world class footballer. Kuyt is also good. He is a dedicated footballer who contributes to his team. He is not amazing or anything, but he has scored a ton of goals in Eredivisie, then he comes to Liverpool and joins Gerrard in scoring the typical late Liverpool winners. It's not luck...he has a knack. My pick would be Gary Neville. He is actually a lot like his brother in my opinion. He is just ok. I really see why United don't use some of their unlimited cash to get a better younger right back.

I think Curbishley is within the top five of active managers of English descent. I just don't understand what exactly he's done wrong to receive all the stick he gets. He saved them from certain relegation, and then led them straight into mid table mediocrity. That is progress. Maybe they don't agree with his transfer, but he has still improved the team. I think, under Curbishley, West Ham would be around 10-12th again...but now they might be in for a season not unlike what Nwwcastle experienced last year in my opinion.

Not to go off topic....but why the hell would Bastian Schweinsteiger want to come to Newcastle? I always got the impression that he was happy being an instrumental part of a CL team. And I'm sure he gets paid plenty, considering he plays for Bayern Munchen n all.
