Joelinton was constantly bullied off the ball yesterday and out of position. I’m not blaming him, he’s clearly not a centre forward. It is the overriding problem position and it is heavily affecting other areas of the side.

Bruce couldn’t really say anything else at the start of his tenure. He quickly questioned Joelinton’s ability as a goal scorer but then took a softer approach when he had to face up to the fact that it was either Joelinton or nobody. Ashley’s grubby mitts are all over that transfer and Bruce hasn’t been allowed to get a replacement in. I can’t for a minute believe that Bruce didn’t and doesn’t know that this is the overriding problem position. The media really should be asking why this massive elephant isn’t being questioned. Simply saying there was nobody better available doesn’t answer why it happened in the first place.

Bruce is a symptom of the cancer that is Ashley. This is just following a well trodden path, so long as Ashley is in charge the manager is irrelevant. Rafa got himself out when the penny dropped for good and Ashley won’t make the same mistake twice, can’t be having a popular manager who will challenge him. I really don’t rate Bruce but I can’t blame him for taking the job. This is becoming the car crash everyone could see coming. The failure to buy a centre forward before the start of the season saw to that.

It can’t be easy playing in the centre with Joelinton as centre forward and now Bentaleb beside you. Longstaff and Hayden were by far our best pairing last year but they were helped by having Perez and Rondon in the team. Having a non existent centre forward and not knowing where ASM and Almiron might be really doesn’t help. Longstaff needs things to be organised around him, as each game goes by we lose a little more discipline, shape and confidence. There’s worse to come, I’m sure of it.

Absolutely no idea why we brought Bentaleb in on loan, Bruce said we didn’t bring a forward in as there was nobody better out there but brings in a player who is absolute bang average and certainly no better than what we’ve got. Absolute shambles of a transfer window.
