I struggle to see why Diame is given a start. He doesn’t protect the ball well enough and we already have Perez who has the same fault. Put them in the same starting 11 and you have a problem. We have enough weaknesses without unnecessarily adding to them.

Ashley has tried and failed miserably to hawk us before. If nothing happens here he’ll be around for another few years using the same business model. Looks like he’s had enough of that and now is the time to get the deal done. I can hardly believe I’m typing this but, I think a deal will be done and if he does sell to owners that will pump money in then an awful lot of my hatred of Ashley will go with it and I kinda think that Ashley would like to leave with some kind of redemption. He could even slag the fans off afterwards by pointing that his model had made the sale possible and I’d accept that. If he fucks us over on this one the fallout would be huge. I doubt he’s got any real appetite for that. He’s thick skinned but he must see this as the time to get out.

Do they secretly support Palace?

Any new buyer will most likely want their own ‘brand’ in whatever form it is in a prominent position around the stadium. I can’t see a new buyer agreeing to let Ashley to continue to advertise his brands. He’d end up with the continued exposure which was his main purpose for buying us in the first place plus 300M in his back pocket. If he manages say a 1 year extension to the advertising he’ll have made a canny deal as our exposure could reasonably be expected to increase significantly. Personally I’d make him take the whole lot down himself and ship it off to the local tip.

Listened to a bit of Jim White on Talk Shite this morning, they were talking about the possible sale and had some sensible callers. Then came some random Mackem who basically bleated on about how it should be them, cheaper, better stadium, better training ground and the 52,000 ‘Daft Geordies’ and their unrealistic expectations. I actually think the presenters felt a bit sorry for him.

That’s exactly what he thought; clever play. Look at where he is on approaching the ball, he then turns his back towards Legeune wanting contact to come, he then only just catches the ball wuth his toe (look where the ball goes), he’s on his way down just before contact and then hits the floor and looks straight at the referee. Clever play. At no point does Long even contemplate actually beating Lejeune with the ball under control and be in towards goal. Just had a good look at the penalty, Long is so concentrated on where Lejeune is that he completely miss kicked the ball (comes off the edge of his big toe - he nearly misses it) and he’s falling into the challenge before it comes. It’s a penalty but it’s one where I’d have no problem with the Ref wagging his finger and point for a goal kick. Lejeune will learn from that.

It is cheating. Long won the pen rather than Lejeune conceding it imo. Players like Shane Long and Andy Johnson have made careers by doing it Cheating clear cut pen, he invited a clumsy challenge from lejeune and got it. My point is, he only intention was to kick the ball away from where he was so that when Lejeune arrived the ball was miles away. He gained no footballing advantage from kicking the ball, infact it was probably out for a goal kick before the challenge came in. Obviously its a pen and Lejuene needs to be smarter but certain players cheat (are 'clever') to win them That’s my view as well. I’ve done it loads of time in the past and where they weren’t given I’d go mad but I’d also feel deep down that it wasn’t a “genuine” penalty. The look on Long’s face says it all.

Tell you what, Long waits for Lejuenne, toe pokes the ball out and gleefully goes over. It’s a very clever piece of play. I’d almost call it cheating; he knows exactly what he’s looking to happen.
