Kingston Park would be OK (from the "being within the City Boundary" perspective) as it is in Newcastle. But Whitley Bay and Wideopen are both outside the City, being in 'North Tyneside'.

Against who exactly? Hardly going to be against Arsenal & Spurs as they'll be nowhere near Man Utd come May. These are motivational mind games, hoping us, Spurs and Everton will raise their game and get the occasional notch against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Thats why I think he does it by the way, not fact, but Fergie always has a smaller team breaking the top 4, and that would be my suggestion for it. Or maybe he just seriously thinks we'll finish 4th? Very unlikely, he's not doen much to prove he's THAT stupid yet. Yes, that's right NM!!!
-
We could very easily finish 4th - we could very easily finish 10th - or anywhere in between. It is too early to tell. What I do find amazing is the number of negative (inferiority complex) types on this forum, who are absolutely unable to objectively identify our relative strengths against other teams. Amazing. Most of those same people believe (and believe with "certainty") in the non-existant mythical sanctity of the "big" four clubs (as they call them, routinely). . . . just because there have in very recent history been a similar current top four clubs by the end of the season. These people believe . . "what IS will ALWAYS BE" . . . . very sad!

On Radio Newcastle yesterday, one of the commentators said that the music we come out to HAS been changed, though while they said that Going Home was no longer going to be played, they did not say what was going to replace it. So, we will no doubt find out on Saturday. Shame, I liked Dire Straits and Going Home!! But there-ya-go.

We should not be thinking "team" (ie, 11 players). We should not even be thinking "team and five subs" either. We should only be thinking about having a very large squad of (only) quality (first-choice players, if they were at other clubs) types of player. They play when picked and they play where they are told to. I do not see this as a problem, it is how it should be at a club like ours. So, we do not need to concern ourselves about where Sam will "fit in" (as you put it) ANY of our first team squad, into any given team and subs bench.

Do you not think that we have been listening to "Going Home" as the players come out, for so long now that (whether you actually 'like' it or not as a piece of music) it is a totally established part of our home match-day scene? Yes but so is queing for the bog in the Gallowgate end and i dont like that either. :parky:

Exactly. Oliver's stories always seemed to be largely 'made up', but with the occasional 'scoop' thrown in (which gave hime some credibility with his employers) because of his links with Shepherd. What he writes now appears to be almost "100%" made up, but with an added bit of "vengeful spite" as he is now just an outsider at the club. All of this is 'alleged' of course . . . Personally, I think it is clear that his days at the Chronicle are numbered . . he may not even last out the coming season!
-
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle is a "regional" newspaper for North East England (like the South Eastern English equivalent - the London Evening Standard - is for the South East of England) it is not just a "Newcastle" paper. Most regional functions / businesses / media, are centred and have their head office in Newcastle (often in the City Centre) and the Chronicle / Journal newspapers are amongst them. From a football perspective it concentrates mainly on Newcastle United, because they are the only big nationally/internationally-known football club we have in this area, not really because the head office of the paper is in Newcastle City Centre!! They have the Echo. Correct, they have their own local paper for Sunderland, called the Echo. The Journal and the Evening Chronicle are both regional papers, that include news and sport (etc) from Sunderland as well as from all other parts of North Eastern England

4th!!!! muahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Let's all just wait and see, Mr Monkey! We are consistently under rated, while a few other teams are consistently over rated. None of us (in doing a forecast for us) have anything (at all) to go on, as the club/team did not exist in its current form last season at all. In my judgement we will score a lot of goals, and the only thing that stopped us picking up a lot more points last season was the defence. This season we should pick up a huge number of additional points with the defence (as I "hope" it is) sorted!!

spurs wont finish 9th imo They will finish between 7th and 9th (so I chose 9th). In my opinion, that is.
-
4th. 1 - Manchester United 2 - Liverpool 3 - Chelsea 4 - Newcastle United 5 - Manchester City 6 - Arsenal 7 - Aston Villa 8 - Everton 9 - Tottenham Not very 'fashionable' (indeed, a bit controversial, especially to those obsessed with the current 'top four') but, lets wait and see!!

Yeah, but that was Carlisle. I think that standing areas at SJP would be very different and would be a natural attraction to those who like to make more noise than sometimes those in the seats want to.
-
My own view is that what we should actually be talking about here is "standing" sections, and they would 'automatically' take care of the singing-section issue. Standing areas at SJP would automatically become like an 'away section' and would attract those who would start the singing off! I have had this discussion before, but I am certain that "safe" standing areas could be created, that would really improve the atmosphere at home games. My preference for the location of these is at one (or both) of the ends (Gallowgate and Leazes) in a sort of 'central-section', stretching from just up from pitch level to (say) halfway up and covering about one third - in the centre - of the width of the end (if you can understand what I am trying to say!!). It would increase attendences too (would please Ashley) and even if the tickets were, naturally, cheaper, the increased numbers would more than compensate the club for the lower prices. The natural consequence of these areas would be that they would be 'singing' areas also, because of those of us who would stand there. Just a thought!!

Football is all about opinions. But there are still some "opinions" that defy belief!!!!!!!! Smith is a banker to be one of the bext buys of any club in this close season.
-
We need more than Enrique (no matter how good he is). Another two, perhaps three, very good quality defenders, if we are to be serious about making an impact in the coming season.
-
Agreed, but it is a "big if" at the moment isn't it!
-
I know, don't know why. Been one of them days actually. Would have been better staying in bed. Enough of my problems!!

Indeed . . . who gives a s*** !!!

The title of the track is 'Going Home: Theme Of The Local Hero'. It's an abbreviation that everyone knows. Yeah, I know! In later albums (subsequent to its use in the film) the extra part of the name was added. The actual original name was, and is, "Going Home". It is widely called (around here particularly) by the name of the film and nothing will change that, I expect!!
-
Reading all these posts on here, many of them are talking about something that doesn't exist. There was a film made in the 1980s, called "Local Hero". The theme music from that film was called "Going Home" and it was played by the band, Dire Straits. I am not aware of any song or piece of music ever being called Local Hero. The music the players come out to (whether you like that particular music, or not!) is called "Going Home" , it isn't called Local Hero. I suppose, if enough people say something enough times . . . . . . ?

Ashley is a tough cookie - don't rule out his putting pressure on the City Council by threatening to move to Gateshead & build a new stadium if they block any expansion plans... It isn't just the City Council - it is people like "English Heritage" and there are other Government Departments involved. It would be fantastic to see the stadium up to Level 7, all the way round, but it is unlikely. We can still expect the Gallowgate End to be built up that high from the corner with the Milburn, completing the 'level-bowl' all the way around (approx) 70% of the stadium. That was part of the recent Shepherd-led expansion plans, taking our capacity to 60,000/61,000. I expect that will still happen. Even bigger capacity, if we also have some standing areas within each of the ends! What do you think?

what!? annoyed. If thats the case - can i choose to just have it on one of my multiroom sky boxes and not the regular one? Cheapest way to do this, is to get Setanta just on one of your Sky boxes (in the room you prefer to see it most) then get one of those "magic eye" things that mean you can watch both boxes in another room. For example, I have Sky+ in one room and with 'Sky Multiroom' I have my 'old' box in another room. Also in the Sky+ room I can watch the 'old' box on another channel, via the Magic Eye (wire link from one box in one room to a tele in another room) that I got put in. That would save on the £10 connection fee and on the extra £5 a month.
