In fact I don't think they could as Tyne & Wear Council closed down in 1986 - Tyne and Wear County Council - Wikipedia

I have posted links to the Skyscraper City site on here a number of times. Planning for houses on the land around the Arena has been approved, and when the Arena itself re-locates to the Quayside, plans are (though not yet approved) to build houses on that site also.

Yes, I see what you mean and agree with you. Really, my "Big One" thing is just me enjoying myself with a bit of an exaggerated wind-up! That is, unless, of course, it really happens
-
We are, and will be even more as the years go by, the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you are implying. In fact (if you read my post) that is what I have specifically said !!

How far in the future will it be that our financial resources, our stability, our business acumen and our football management and playing quality. mean that we overtake this collection of rapidly declining has-beens? Forget the Premier league "Big Six" becoming the Big Seven . . . Welcome to the new world of the Big O N E !!!!!

I think the logical conclusion is that the Gallowgate End extension will H A P P E N !!!

Now, it looks like the development on the St James' Park Metro Station Car Park Site is definitely going ahead. However, on Skyscraper City there is a new report that "Block D" has been taken out of the four-block scheme. I think that some kind of financial arrangement may have been recently made . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/one-st-james-st-james’-metro-station-car-park-newcastle-various-approved.1406356/post-181392650

Second in the 4th Tier will not be any good, only the team in 1st position is promoted to the 3rd Tier. They need to get up to 1st place and be promoted so that they can start their long trek up through the divisions to get into the Super League (WSL) in four or five years time.

Yes, Washington had absolutely NO natural links with Sunderland. Their links were in Gateshead and (of course) to the City of Newcastle. Football preferences have also always followed that natural pattern.
-
That is why I say "really" a part of Gateshead, we all know that it has administratively become part of the Sunderland Metropolitan Borough. My earlier post (a few up from here) illustrates how the strange Tyne & Wear' 1974 situations happened.
-
It is definitely really a part of Gateshead, always has been!
-
The "former" so-called Big Six.
-
Yes, in fact mainly only "administratively" via the very artificial merged borough. When I worked in Washington in the 1990s, judging by the number of shirts worn, it seemed to be about 80 percent a Newcastle United town.
-
Washington New Town is indeed officially part of Sunderland, but it is really a very independent town with very few links to Sunderland. In 1974 when the two towns of Washington and Sunderland were brought together under Local Government re-organisation (principally to make enough population to form a credible-sized borough of Tyne & Wear, no other reason) it surprised many of us. The reason for the surprise was that Washington is more a part of Gateshead really. I mean, if you are driving along the Felling Bypass in Gateshead (I used to work there) and you turn right where the large 'Black Bull' pub was until recently (I used to drink there) then within 100 yards you passed the entrance sign and were in Washington New Town !!! Then, after the strange decision to artificially add Washington to Sunderland, we had the great debate as to what the new 'merged borough' should be called . . . Washington was the 'older' name (the original home of the first president of the USA, etc) and the new merged borough was very nearly called 'Washington' rather than Sunderland. That would have been a laugh.

The victorious 1955 Newcastle United FA Cup Winning Team Victory Parade - going past the back entrance to Fenwicks Department Store on Blackett Street . . .

Those three results (including ours) are not certain to happen. However, I have to say they are all quite likely to happen (particularly ours)

I know a lot of supporters who feel like that !!! I can never even begin to understand this, as I (and many others) do not rate Sunderland as even the 'beginnings' of real opposition. We DO represent the region in many non-local peoples eyes around the UK and the world. Most people have never heard of the words 'Tyne & Wear', they only know Newcastle, and so (for football) they really do see us as the North East Club. Our City is seen like that for many things, it is the only famous name-place for the region, and football is no different to anything else.
-
This is something I have repeatedly said on here. I have never considered Sunderland as real rivals, just because they are nearby. They have always been very inferior. We represent the North East Region, and so our actual rivals must come from outside the region and that is how I have always felt. If we were Liverpool and had the Manchester clubs and Everton as 'local' rivals, that would be different, but Sunderland, nah, never.

Yes, I feel that I don't know enough about him, his strengths and weaknesses etc, yet. Also, at his age it can (and will) change from what he is now . . hopefully in an 'upwards' direction. However, I am optimistic that he could save the club quite a few £millions in transfer fees, in fact I am pretty sure he will. It will be a year or two yet though, before we will know precisely, but the current signs are very good though!

Good stuff, I used some similar diagrams and photos on Skyscraper City - See this LINK . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/newcastle-as-it-might-have-been.1009531/post-53665235
