The "European Fairs Cup" (the name change from "Inter Cities Fairs Cup" was agreed during the season we won it) was the "2nd" European Tournament below the European Cup, as the "Europa League" is now. It was a FAR harder tournament to win than the Europa League is today because in 1968/69 only ONE team from each country went into the European Cup (now called Champions League) unlike today, meaning that most of the very best teams in European Football were playing in the Fairs Cup.

That is just so 100% wrong. The massive stone cleaning of our beautiful City Centre buildings started in the mid-1960s and was largely completed by the mid to late 1970s, I followed all this very closely at the time. So, while our City Centre is very beautiful now, it was "sparkling new" beautiful in the mid-1970s !!!

We have strengthened our starting 11 and 'first choice' substitutes considerably. We now have our recent repeat starting 11, plus Maxi, Isak and Gordon. All 14 of them can be in the starting 11 without any reduction in 'strength'.

Know what you mean, but we have now had three transfer windows since all that stopped. Let's face it - it will never go back to that again, ever.

You are wrong there. Most people in the football world are now ALREADY fully aware of what we are. Understandably, some of us supporters are taking a longer time to fully assimilate this!

Why? Footballers are starting to realise that you move to London or Manchester if you can't get to Newcastle.

It is 100% the opposite of 'worrying'. It is what we have not been for the last 20 years or so - it is 'intelligent and professional'.

That will be VERY temporary. I still remember fondly when we were 5th in the world . . .

The thing is, it never could be or would be "the other way round" they are just not a 'known' club or a 'sleeping giant' club at all, in any way. THAT (secretly, and unspokenly by them) is what has come to hurt them the most - their final realisation of their own total insignificance - even more than the pain caused by our actual takeover itself.

If only overseas people knew what our "capital" is actually like!! Having lived there for many years, and knowing many other people similarly afflicted, I could advise them of the realities. I don't know how I did it, but we all managed to escape from there, back to Newcastle, without being stabbed, shot, or even mugged. We were VERY lucky indeed. Bad things can happen anywhere in the UK, but that place is in a world all of its own for corruption, depravity and violence, in fact NOT a world of its own, a 'universe' of its own.
