  1. It is in Kings Quad at Newcastle University, and was unveiled in 2017 . . .
  2. And my parents met Dr King when he came to the house where we were living on 13th November 1967 . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/remembering-historic-newcastle-old-photos-maps-even-stories.982536/post-54175633
  3. Yes, the twinning of Newcastle and Atlanta, and the "Friendship Force" that followed it, all came out of Jimmy Carter's 1977 visit to Newcastle and I was there, skiving off from work on 6th May 1977. I didn't have any kind of zoom-lense on my little Kodak Instamtic Camera, so 'Photo Six' shows how close I got to JC at one point . . .
  4. I am still hoping that they will replace "Mike Ashley's Portable TV" that is stuck on the wall at the Leazes End, with a proper BIG screen. The current "Giant TV Screen" was installed in 2014, and it turned out to be a little bit smaller than it was initially made out to be . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/st-james-park-nufc-off-the-field-activities-stadium-issues-transfers-takeovers-history-of-club-etc.458915/post-118222118 THIS is what we thought was going to happen . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/st-james-park-nufc-off-the-field-activities-stadium-issues-transfers-takeovers-history-of-club-etc.458915/post-118096691
  5. Anyone know what the equivalent 'stats' are for the FTM club? is it "NIL" perhaps?
  6. The very fact that this part of North Newcastle has been approved for the construction of the massive "Newcastle Great Park" housing development, which will not be completed for about another 15 years, means that it is not 'Green Belt' protected land, even though (a long time ago) some of it was. Newcastle Great Park is a new suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne. Uniquely positioned in a rural setting, but just 3 miles from the city centre, the park is one of the most accessible locations in the Northeast. The map below shows the location of Newcastle Great Park in relation to some of the key destinations in the surrounding area, as well as the location of some of the key points on the park. You would need to get planning approval changed from residential, to whatever class a training ground would fall under. Not impossible, and (as mentioned in the past) Jamie Reuben's experience in development could prove very useful here.
  7. Yes it is, as I have said quite a few times just above. If you read the posts you will see it is others asking the questions about "North Tyneside", not me!
  8. We are discussing the planned new Training Ground
  9. I think I have already said why. Newcastle United fully based in Newcastle, contributing to our economy by the payment of Business Rates, and just 'being here'. The Training Ground can be anywhere in Newcastle, but the Stadium should be somewhere in the City Centre, like it currently is. To use your phrase . . it makes sense . . it is our identity, it is where we grew up, it is where we belong!
  10. Yes, North Tyneside was a hastily established "administratve area" for the provision of local authority services, in 1974. It is not a 'place' and it was never intended to be one, it does not appear on UK maps. I agree entirely, we live in one continuous urban area, the 7th largest urban area in the UK, and (as far as most people in the UK are concerned) it is all "Greater Newcastle".
  11. You can support "North Tyneside United" if you like, no problem with that. It is simple and non-contentious, I prefer Newcastle United to be in Newcastle, that's all!
  12. Yes, it seems they are from "Newcastle 31", and they probably don't know it !!!!
  13. I think I am just being fair, but (like I say) I wouldn't object to it becoming even stronger. However, like most of us, I think that 'up front' is now our absolute priority!
  14. An excellent location, and importantly (to me) it is in Newcastle, whereas the current place is just outside the City Boundary in the Metropolitan Borough of North Tyneside.
  15. You are right, our midfield is not pretty strong. it is very strong !!! I wouldn't object, though, to it perhaps becoming even stronger.

    In memoriam

He was great. Loved his accent, “Hellaw Jurn”. Well said Danh1 - that is exactly how he sounded. I will miss those calls from Albert.
  17. Yes, they are not representative of any human beings that I have met, neither are they (I am sure) even vaguely representative of the people of Sunderland, or even of those in Sunderland that support football and their football club. HOWEVER . . . They are a "little gem" for the rest of the world, they are fantastically hilarious and produce daily "sheer enjoyment" for us all. Personally, I have never laughed so much since the prime years of Morecambe and Wise !!!!! This contribution by them should not be underestimated.
  18. There were a couple of worrying developments yesterday about this. Firstly the Planning Application at the City Council was updated by the Developer. Secondly, they released some new CGI's of the proposals, which makes it look like they are still planning to go ahead with this particular scheme on the St James' Park Metro Station Car Park Site. Here are the CGI's - Click on each image to enlarge it . . .
  19. This situation is regularly discussed at the above linked thread.
  20. Not sure if they are that advanced yet, the Metro Station Car park is still being used as a 'compound' for the materials and machinery being used on the next door "Home Group HQ building" construction that is nearly finished next to the Strawberry. We follow this (and all developments in the City Centre) very closely over on SkyscraperCity.com, and we are already up to 'Post No. 559' for this project. We have a team of local photographers that keep us up to speed (I rely totally on them) and their latest post does not show any preparation work for these four new builds . . . yet! See - https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/one-st-james-st-james’-metro-station-car-park-newcastle-various-approved.1406356/post-178290366
  21. Yes as mentioned earlier, that seems very possible, especially with the involvement of Jamie Reuben!
  22. About five years ago someone sent me this different photo of (what I assume is) those same steps. They said the photo was taken at the Gallowgate end, under the new stand . . .
  23. It will take a while to mentally adjust to the new reality. Joyously though, we will all have to do so - sooner rather than later !!!!
