E-Mail received from NUST today (25th May 2020) . . . RESPONSE TO MEDIA SMEARS AGAINST FANS AND MEMBERS Dear member, Many of you will have noticed that some sections of the football media have continued to attack Newcastle United fans and the members of the NUST since news broke of the proposed takeover of Newcastle United by Amanda Staveley’s consortium. As a board we have been inundated with media requests from around the world to talk about the takeover and have done our best (we have all still been working in our day jobs during the lockdown) to respond in good faith to journalists wanting to know the Trusts position on the takeover. Like everything with the Trust – you, the members, dictate our position. We have consistently relayed the following messages 96.7% of Trust members who completed our takeover survey (15.04.20) said they were in favour of this proposed takeover A minority of positive respondents to the takeover members commented that they both supported the takeover and had concerns and questions about the potential new owners The Trust has only ever judged the owner of Newcastle United on his record running Newcastle United. Outside factors are not an issue for the Trust Even assuming for a moment fans of Newcastle United were against this takeover (rather than the vast, vast majority of fans supporting it) football fans do not get asked about the buying or selling of their club. We weren’t asked about Mike Ashley buying the club in 2007 and haven’t been consulted now. Therefore it is unfair to demand football fans to rise up and block things over which they have no control. There are lots of people that could influence who owns clubs and the buying and selling of clubs. I cannot understand why fans are being targeted instead of FIFA UEFA The FA The Premier League The UK Government Mike Ashley Key partners of the game in England like the BBC, BT Sport, Sky Sports The listed institutions above seem to be happy with the way the English game is run. They have the power to make a difference. Newcastle United fans have been mocked for years for attempts to remove the current owner by some of the same people in the media demanding that we now ‘take action.’ As a board there isn’t a media request we haven’t tried to make and in the main the conversations have been respectful. Even if there is a disagreement about this proposed takeover, there can still be civility and respect between the fans and journalists. No one should be abused privately and publicly for expressing doubts about the takeover of a football club. That respect and civility has to work both ways though. The board of the Trust were dismayed to read an article in the New Statesmen by respected and awarded winning sports journalist Jonathon Liew. The general tone of the article was, in our opinion, offensive toward the vast majority of Newcastle United supporters. From a Trust perspective we were appalled to read the following line in Mr Liew’s piece: ‘Asked whether they would be in favour of their club being purchased by a state culpable for numerous human rights abuses and accused of a litany of war crimes in Yemen, 97 per cent of respondents to a survey by the Newcastle United Supporters Trust said they would.’ We will not allow our members to be defamed in this manner. As you will be aware the question in our survey was ‘Would you approve of a takeover of Newcastle United via the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, the Reuben Brothers and Amanda Staveley as is widely reported in the media?’. We have emailed the New Statesmen the following on the matter: Sadly, at the time of writing, we have yet to receive a response from the New Statesmen. The article remains on their website in the original form and has gone into the print version of their magazine (page 40). There are many other troubling aspects of Mr Liew’s article and we understand why Newcastle United supporters are deeply unhappy with it. It was heartening to see some positive, robust responses on social media that didn’t resort to abuse. Despite our objection to the article no journalist, activist or fan deserves abuse for their point of view. However it is important that football fans are able to stand up for themselves. Sadly many professionals paid to write and speak about the game have viewed Newcastle United supporters as easy targets to ridicule. We will be pursuing this with the New Statesmen in the aim of receiving an apology for you, the members. What they have published is unfair and untrue. We will update members when we can on what happens next. As a board it is essential that the Trust speaks out for Newcastle United Supporters. We have conducted the following interviews since details of a deposit paid for the purchase of the club. We will continue to ensure the positive views of members about this takeover are hear: The Chronicle Forbes Magazine Independent Independent #2 Guardian The WSJ BBC The Athletic Radio 5 Live ITV Thank you for reading. Correct, on all points.

There has always been a slight problem getting major players to come to "The North East" . . but that same problem never seems to apply to getting people to "come to Newcastle". Our famous name has always meant people love to come here, and I am NOT specifically talking about football, but that certainly does apply in football. We often get casually lumped in with (say) Middlesbrough and Sunderland when this issue is discussed by THEM, even though it obviously does not apply to Newcastle or to Newcastle United.

Meaningless, but Sunderland supporters adopted a "Haway" chant, just to be different from us. Who cares about them? But that's why it has happened.

Despite the magnificent, fantastic, 1 9 6 9 . . . https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=2177948 Is the book by Gibson and them any good? Seen it advertised, but not picked it up. On the above link, "Post No. 9" of that Skyscraper City Thread lists and shows details of all the "Fairs Cup Win" books. Sorry, not sure which one you mean by the 'Gibson & them' one?

I live about four miles away from the airport, but we aren't on the flightpath, so we never get planes directly overhead. In the middle of the night I was woken up by a very LOUD plane flying directly overhead, never heard anything like that here before. So I immediately thought (still 95% asleep) "that's them, the Saudis, flying in from a different direction from normal planes" and then I went straight back to sleep. It may all have been a dream of course, but in the morning I felt it was real !!! (how 'wound up' into all this, am I . . .. ) There's only two ways to land a plane at Newcastle. Straight in from Whitley Bay area, straight in from Hexham area. Anything else would end in disaster. Unless the Saudi private planes are like Harrier jump jets. Maybe you heard the Northumbria Police Ghetto Bird tracking some villains ? Or a military jet. get occasional Tornado's and Typhoons flying around at low levels. Takes what about 2 minutes to get to Leeming when you're doing 7-800mph? Or, it is just possible that I dreamt the whole thing, as it is so much on my mind. After this happens I will need a long uninterupted wank (about a MONTH) I think !! FTFY THANKYOOO !!

If the Sunderland Football Club does fold / go out of business, there could be an even lower league 're-birth' for a brand new club, to replace them. It would be so much better if that new club were to be based in the City of DURHAM. rather than in Sunderland. I quite like the idea of a "Durham City FC" to replace them. They could even be adopted by us and become one of our 'feeder clubs'. Happy Days !!! Durham City already exists Yes I know but it's the 'spirit' of the idea I mean. A new club designed to move (a little way) up the leagues to replace Sunderland. The usual way around pre-existing names is (something like) "AFC Durham" or whatever . . .

Not seen any published. PIF could have easily done this all alone, so in my view they hadn't considered it in the past but were approached by Staveley who wanted a cut for starting the deal, and the Reubens jumped on as part of their buy up of property all around Newcastle. Or, they just want to be owners and have others do all the day to day running The Reuben Brothers could also easily have done this on their own (worth about £18 Billion) but the 'deal' was put together by PCP Capital Partners (Amanda Staveley) so she was involved hugely and said she wanted "in" on the deal and I understand that the Reuben Brothers were on board even before PIF, so they remained on board when PIF joined in. It seems an IDEAL combination of owners, with ongoing future skills being available to Newcastle United from ALL three groups, far, far better than doing it on your own, no matter how rich you are!

Been onto Forbes Website and there is no trace of the above article. https://www.forbes.com/search/?q=Saudi%20Bid%20For%20Newcastle%20United%20Approved#459e73da279f

Well, the takeover actually happened almost two months ago now, and all we have been waiting for is the Premier League's 'Fit & Proper Test' results. The Reubens, Staveley and Saudi PIF are serious players in the business world, despite all this 'noise' around the deal, there is no way that any sports body will tell these people that they cannot buy the investment they want to buy. So, I cannot understand why you would say "can anyone actually picture it happening?" when it is absolutely certain to happen, and in reality. has already happened. Absolutely certain Again, give it a few weeks and re visit that comment Ha ha . . . likewise !!

You laugh but let's wait and see. I bet I'm proven right in time As I wrote just above, you are wrong!

No one ever said it was passed. Too many people were looking for the subliminal message in his words. We'll be playing Sgt Pepper backwards next to see of John and Paul had anything to say about it. When you play it backwards it sounds like . . "Oh Mandy . . . " (it does - FACT)

Haven't had fried bread in years, can feel my heart clenching even thinking about it. It is the MOST delicious thing, I remember my Dad making it for me, sometimes if he didn't have time to fry it he gave me something he called "dip", which was bread dipped in bacon fat. That was delicious also. It's been a while since I've had either.

Study the words George has chosen to use . . . "They haven’t had official, formal word from the PL yet. That’s the bit when the money starts to move". That is about as clear as it could possibly be !!! It means . . . We haven't had the announcement yet because the money hasn't been paid and it will be paid when the "official" and "formal" approval (ie, the official/formal letter) has been received, but (and this is the important bit) it means that "unofficial" approval (phonecall probably) HAS been given. It's all there. IT IS DONE PEOPLE . . . DONE !!!!

Truly the pits. Awful post. The lady has every right to protest about the country that (she is certain) killed her husband in the most awful of circumstances. It is odd (peculiar) that she is picking on us, as the vehicle of her understandable hatred. Very odd. There are SO MANY other organisations and businesses that the Saudies have recently bought and are about to buy, yet nothing seems to be said about (or to) those businesses. Where are all the letters? Also of course, she is completely missing the point that if we (the world) EVER want to change and improve the behaviour of the Saudi Government, it is by 'trading with' them and their countries businesses. Banning them, boycotting them (etc) will achieve nothing at all, nothing. It is understandable that she cannot see this though, she must be full of genuine hate for the people she believes killed her husband. What an awful situation for her.

Depends on how much influence the government has over this because it's got nowt to do with them. It's 100% (officially) a PL decision. As they have always said, the Government will not interfere in this commercial transaction and Premier League process https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/culture-secretary-oliver-dowden-insists-18267531

Don't know who he is, but liked reading some positive tweets from him, even though they most likely mean nothing. Check my last tweet. I have a very reliable source at Logitech. He claims it's gonna be announced on Friday, at 3pm. Oh no . . . not another "3pm Announcement" !!!!!

To me, this part of NUFC.coms latest note is the most relevant part . . . If, as they say, this documentation was "simultaneously circulated to media outlets", then surely the media would have used it, and we would all know EXACTLY what this documentation said and probably who had sent it. Have I missed the publication of that documentation??
