Why Villa? They heard that a player they wanted was officaly put on the transfer list by his club due to his request and signed him, they've done nothing wrong imo. They blatantly tapped him up. Chances are his agent informed Villa of his availability.

Coloccini for a reported 9m going up to 10.3m - also reported to have signed the 'contract of his life'. In the end the deal didn't come off but it shows that the money is there for players of the right calibre. Gutierrez had an original asking price of 10m but we got around the via a loophole, but I imagine we still had to pay a few to get him in. There's a difference between 'selling to buy' and simply getting rid of players that are no good for us. How do you know (or 'imagine') that a Coloccini purchase would have been funded, if we had got (say) Modric? We've gotten rid of players that never played or reached their potential - like Carr, Emre and Ramage and replaced them with players that have already shown a marked improvement on the first team squad. Some of the passing and confidence that we've shown against ManUtd, Bolton to a smaller extent and Coventry shows that changes are in place - and we're scoring goals with an unfit Michael Owen which fills me with loads of confidence. I think that even if we had signed more quality, we'd still be in for a hit and miss season hopefully leading to a marked improvement and I feel that we may get a few more names through the door but if we don't I'm confident that we'll do good enough until January. Look what Keegan did at the end of last season with the players he had - that alone gives me faith. I still reckon we won't be signing anyone today. It'd be nice to be proven wrong but it wouldn't be NUFC without deadline rushes. I went on the Everton site and there isn't one bad thing in the comments section about them signing Saha. I'd be mortified, as he's just a complete crock. Manorpark - reluctant to spend? Surely bids for Coloccini, Modric, Aimer, Inler etc. show that there's money to spend. How many times does this really need to be pointed out?

The club bought him because the manager wanted a 'grafter' who could play several positions. I very much doubt he was bought because he played alright at Leeds. Either way, can't argue that Allardyce wasn't backed.

So if he is on £10k a week then, which is quite possible, do you not think he is worth a rise? Considering O Neil has been giving his youngsters new contracts quite publicly this week and that other players of similar calibre in our team are possibly on more than he is. And if he is on that and the club have said no to a new contract do you think he should just accept that and stay for another 3 years before he gets a rise? If you think that will ever work in any line of business you're quite naive. However if he is on £20k pw and is arguing over £30k, then its slightly different. But I don't think he is on £20k a week, I think its closer to £10k and hes probably asking for £20k. But we dont know do we? So there's no way you can say he isn't worth a rise. Even a player of milners age, quality and end product has a value to us regardless of goals, assists etc. If hes not getting that then theres something wrong IMO. Milner has done nothing to earn a new contract since he last signed one. He played very hit and miss last season, offered very little in the way of assists, goals or creating chances for us and it wasn't until he was injured and therefore not playing in the team until we saw a marked improvement on the pitch. Geremi offered much more than him and that says something. If he had gone and had a brilliant season he'd have a leg to stand on, but he didn't. He has two choices now, stay and fight for a new contract or leave. If we get a replacement I wouldn't be bothered to see him leave to be honest.

Taylors contract was running down, that's why he recieved a new one. If Milner wasn't happy with the terms on his contract a year ago he shouldn't have agreed to them.

I think the panic signing label can only be used if the player was brought in for the sake of getting another body in, rather than someone who would directly improve the first team squad. I'll see what we've got come Tuesday before I start throwing toys out the pram and going on about how the board failed or succeeded or were better than the old one or whatever.

i don't believe that tbh got a lot of players that are commanding huge wages on their potential and status They have a much stronger midfield than us.
