Oh my god - "B I D S" . . . (or even more accurately - "reported bids"). How many times does THAT need to be pointed out? Fine then, lets look at facts. Coloccini for a reported 9m going up to 10.3m - also reported to have signed the 'contract of his life'. True, the Modric bid (I'll forget the Aimer & Inler ones because as Dave said, could be wrong) was made before any players were sold. In the end the deal didn't come off but it shows that the money is there for players of the right calibre. Gutierrez had an original asking price of 10m but we got around the via a loophole, but I imagine we still had to pay a few to get him in. There's a difference between 'selling to buy' and simply getting rid of players that are no good for us. How do you know (or 'imagine') that a Coloccini purchase would have been funded, if we had got (say) Modric? Also, I don't think Keegan would agree with any of you "Milner haters" on here ("no good for us" !!!!) I don't agree with you either. I also asked if you thought it would just be a 'mere coincidence' if Ashley actually spends some money RIGHT NOW? Well? I'd rather we spent money now than didn't spend any just to prove you and your ridiculous theory wrong. There have been reports of us going for specific players all summer, with either agents or players themselves saying about interest - some I'll take with a pinch of salt but I wouldn't be surprised if some had truth in them. I honestly don't think that the club has been sat about hoping for the likes of James Milner to be sold just so we can buy some players. Coloccini negotiations were started 3 months before he signed and Modric nearly signed in May I believe. Ashley has come out and said how he feels about the club but you clearly haven't read it or decided to simply disregard it because it doesn't fit in with your opinion. Keegan has said about the type of players we want - need even. It's the easiest thing in the world to go out and splash £10m here and there for players, that's how we ended up with Luque and Boumsong. I'm curious where you got the 'Milner Hater' thing from as I've never really slagged him off or wanted him out. I do think that £12m is way too good to turn down though assuming he can be replaced. For a player his age and with his experience he just hasn't moved up the level required for me, he has little pace struggles to cross. I think we can get better and hope we do. Wasn't meaning specifically YOU by the 'Milner Hater' thing - sorry if it read like that. There are a LOT on here who are though! You do make a fair few 'broad brush' statements about my opinions and how I form them. None of them are true, by the way. I am simply observing a disjointed organisation, failing to 'achieve' in the manner that it should be capable of achieving. Naturally (as this organisation is one that I personally care about) I am WORRIED. Fair play about the Milner craic - same with any of our players I guess. Some go too far, you're right there. On the topic of a disjointed organisation, you could seriously be talking about any premiership club outside of the top 4 really. Tottenham, City and Villa are the only teams that have really strengthened but all of their fans are still dropping bricks - Spurs, especially. I'd much rather we'd have done alot more to improve the first team squad but I think the issue is less with having no money to spend and simply just not being able to get the type of quality that we're after through the doors which is somewhat understandable given the last few seasons of managers, finishes and performances in general. On the whole though, I am happy. We've gotten rid of players that never played or reached their potential - like Carr, Emre and Ramage and replaced them with players that have already shown a marked improvement on the first team squad. Some of the passing and confidence that we've shown against ManUtd, Bolton to a smaller extent and Coventry shows that changes are in place - and we're scoring goals with an unfit Michael Owen which fills me with loads of confidence. I think that even if we had signed more quality, we'd still be in for a hit and miss season hopefully leading to a marked improvement and I feel that we may get a few more names through the door but if we don't I'm confident that we'll do good enough until January. Look what Keegan did at the end of last season with the players he had - that alone gives me faith. I'm not really panicing and if we don't sign anyone else I'll be a bit disappointed but not worried, I'll just go along for the ride because for the first time since Sir Bobby Robson, I trust the manager of the club.

I still reckon we won't be signing anyone today. It'd be nice to be proven wrong but it wouldn't be NUFC without deadline rushes. I went on the Everton site and there isn't one bad thing in the comments section about them signing Saha. I'd be mortified, as he's just a complete crock. Apparently Moyes is a genious for bringing in a French International who can find the net.

Manorpark - reluctant to spend? Surely bids for Coloccini, Modric, Aimer, Inler etc. show that there's money to spend. How many times does this really need to be pointed out?
-
We have a.. Itzy bitzy Argentini Fabirico Coloccini... Read that somewhere. Made me smile.
-
The club bought him because the manager wanted a 'grafter' who could play several positions. I very much doubt he was bought because he played alright at Leeds. Either way, can't argue that Allardyce wasn't backed.
-
I'm sick of defenders.
-
Ouch.
-
Well if nobody knows how can you say he isn't on 25k/30k? Answer that one, oracle.
-
You do it, I'm not too bothered personally.
-
So if he is on £10k a week then, which is quite possible, do you not think he is worth a rise? Considering O Neil has been giving his youngsters new contracts quite publicly this week and that other players of similar calibre in our team are possibly on more than he is. And if he is on that and the club have said no to a new contract do you think he should just accept that and stay for another 3 years before he gets a rise? If you think that will ever work in any line of business you're quite naive. However if he is on £20k pw and is arguing over £30k, then its slightly different. But I don't think he is on £20k a week, I think its closer to £10k and hes probably asking for £20k. But we dont know do we? So there's no way you can say he isn't worth a rise. Even a player of milners age, quality and end product has a value to us regardless of goals, assists etc. If hes not getting that then theres something wrong IMO. Milner has done nothing to earn a new contract since he last signed one. He played very hit and miss last season, offered very little in the way of assists, goals or creating chances for us and it wasn't until he was injured and therefore not playing in the team until we saw a marked improvement on the pitch. Geremi offered much more than him and that says something. If he had gone and had a brilliant season he'd have a leg to stand on, but he didn't. He has two choices now, stay and fight for a new contract or leave. If we get a replacement I wouldn't be bothered to see him leave to be honest.
-
Taylors contract was running down, that's why he recieved a new one. If Milner wasn't happy with the terms on his contract a year ago he shouldn't have agreed to them.
-
I think the panic signing label can only be used if the player was brought in for the sake of getting another body in, rather than someone who would directly improve the first team squad. I'll see what we've got come Tuesday before I start throwing toys out the pram and going on about how the board failed or succeeded or were better than the old one or whatever.

Why in 12 minutes? Whats going on now? BIG WILLIE?!??!
-
Stop telling Mike Ashley to 'take note' of teams like Sunderland because they never shut up and Man City because their owner will cripple them financially with the way he's spending.
-
i don't believe that tbh got a lot of players that are commanding huge wages on their potential and status They have a much stronger midfield than us.
-
I love it when rubberface misses out on players he's gone on about wanting publicly.
-
I don't think there's an issue with money and wages. The problem - as has already been said - is getting players to come to us. We've got a load of people saying how they'd be stupid not to because of the crowds and Keegan and the other lot are going on about not having Europe. I'm happy with the people we've got so far this window, although I'll be concerned if we don't get another two more names in of the same calibre as Jonas or at the very least, Guthrie. Personally, I don't think we will.
-
Fuck it, I'm sick of wingers from Chelsea. Do City even need a winger?
-
Nani and Anderson moved in with Ronaldo initially...he um, helped them settle in, so to speak. Wasn't there a story about a mass orgy going on after they won a game and Nani was stood topless exclaiming to a load of girls how fit he was or something?
-
If we could replace Milner with a player like Lennon like Carlito said, we'd have a terrific amount of pace on the wings and a backline that is generally fairly young and definately not slow. Our frontline has some decent legs, too. A bit more intelligence in the team could make us deadly on the counter attack.
-
Thing about Milner is that he's a good player who has shown that he can cut it in the league, but he's so frustrating to watch. When I was at the match on Saturday there were a few things he did that infuriated me. I remember when someone passed a ball to him in Boltons box and he stood there waiting for it to come to him rather go to it before the defender knocked it clear. And I simply have no idea how football players can complain about bad wages when even players like Andy Carroll are on a decent enough packet in the greater scheme of things. I think there's more to it than him wanting a wage increase because Taylor & N'Zogbia are on more.

If it was liverpool I'd be utterly amazed.
