The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week, the first week of both the Barclays Premier League and the Coca Cola Football League season, the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award should go to Newcastle United following their 3-1 win at Bolton Wanderers. Manager Sam Allardyce will receive a specially engraved crystal football in a presentation to be screened on Sky Soccer Saturday this weekend. The new Newcastle manager celebrated his first league game in charge with victory over his former club. Charles N'Zogbia scored the first of three first-half goals, in the 11th minute, with a curling free-kick that eluded everybody. On 21 minutes Obafemi Martins hit a spectacular overhead kick, followed six minutes later by a long-range strike six minutes past Jussi Jaaskelainen as Newcastle led 3-0 at the break. Nicolas Anelka finished a blistering break five minutes after the restart but the Magpies deserved their win. Sam Allardyce was naturally delighted with the result, saying after the game: "It is a great start to the season for me and my players. "The application by the players was terrific and I think that the quality of the finishing was the difference between the two teams. "I'm not sure what level these players are at yet but they are starting to hit a standard I don't want them to drop."

.cock Big Sam On Summer Signings By Craig Hope SAM Allardyce believes that he has captured the right blend of youth and experience during a summer which has seen him bring seven new faces to St.James' Park. The Toon gaffer always maintained that he wanted players with Premiership experience to bolster his United ranks, as well as a mixture of fresh foreign talent new to the English top flight. And Big Sam is confident that he has achieved that goal as he sets about stamping his mark on a new-look United. "I think my initial intake into the football club in terms of players was how much Premiership experience is out there and how quickly can we get it in," the Magpies boss told the League Manager's Association. "So we ended up with Mark Viduka who is an experienced player and Geremi from Chelsea who is a very experienced Premier League player. "Then we had the younger end by purchasing Joey Barton and Alan Smith, so there was a great capture of four very, very experienced players in the Premier League; two still what we call of prime age in Alan and Joey and two of the experienced age which is Mark and Geremi." And Allardyce, who has also signed centre-backs David Rozehnal and Claudio Cacapa from the French league and Jose Enrique from Spain, believes it is important to allow those foreign players a bedding-in period. "The experience of the Premier League is crucial to bringing you success," he added. "Behind that you find players from abroad now as well as developing your own players in your own academy. "That's where a lot of clubs over the last few years have slipped up, where the foreign element has made up a lot of the intake they've been asked to play immediately and then found life difficult to adjust. "They've then got a lot of criticism for the way they've performed because the expectation was so much bigger that they couldn't actually deliver, until they got used to a change of culture, environment, and language."

Number three is bullshit. as much as it pisses you off when the opposition does it, you have to admit it is a very effective tactic of ensuring three points. The ball is in play. If the opposition want it, come and get it. Shearer was the master of it.
-
Then you get the odd 6-5 to LA Galaxy thrown in Shite league for shit players.
-
Who does he play for?
-
Well since Bently isn't a central defender I don't think it's a case of one or the other
-
Agreed that Lescott is the better defender, but age wise, by the time our current lot become too old, Lescott will be getting on a bit, meaning it would be a better investment to give younger defenders the experience. Fucking hell, Lescott has only just turned 25 today, and you're already saying he's too old? He could play for England for the next 10 years. You can't pick and choose who to play based on the age of other squad players.

Ron Geremi. Perhaps the shittest nickname anyone has invented on here tbh.

Got to use this chant for him (pretty sure this clip is fine to post. If not, mods, do your worst)

The only thing im really worried about before this game is Carr against Ashley, and Carew can be good on his day. Hopefully he wont have a good day and get good service from Young and Agbonlahor or whatever his fucking name is.. I know it's his club, but I think you have to be registred to play mate

No it isn't. I don't reckon it'll happen but it's certainly not impossible. I meant more that it would be an unrealistic expectation on the part of the fans. :parky: Oh. Fair dos
