Watching that reminded me what a brilliant commentator Barry Davies was. Pretty much every clip they showed last night contained a great, eloquent little line from him, or a great reaction to what had just happened on the pitch. Motson always was and still is absolute garbage in comparison (and is getting worse and worse).
-
I think what he was going for was 'ulitmately paid the price.' Still a load of bollocks, just slightly less insane than the meaning of the original post.
-
Incredible to think that we only had Stone, Carver and Woodman before. Absolute fucking insanity.
-
In seasons gone by this would have dragged on until the season started after being linked with a couple of proper football men, then we would announce that we would be continuing with what we already had for the rest of the season.
-
Going to miss those mental celebrations of his. The one against Sunderland was brilliant - he'd been here 2 minutes and was celebrating as if he'd grown up in Wallsend.

Why should England actually have real options to influence games, to try and win the tournament? Surely it's better to placate the pundits and media in order to avoid criticism for leaving out the household names. I honestly had hope for Hodgson. Hope he does well but with that selection he's looking at an early exit imo. Possibly even in the group stage. Not sure I agree with this. The first 11 isn't affected by not taking Townsend and Drinkwater and we should have more than enough in the first choice team to be getting through the group without having to resort to Townsend coming on and saving the day.
-
So he had an exit clause in his contract exclusively for clubs from Qatar and China? The money-grabbing fucker.
-
He was terrific for most of the 5th placed season, but hit a sharp decline shortly after. As others have said, a horrendous decision to hand him a new contract, it's been pretty clear that his heart wasn't in it for whatever reason for the last couple of seasons. Now get him off the wage bill and get Lascelles established as first choice, he looks like he actually wants to be here and play for the club and fight for the cause.

Any news on whether Cathro is expected to stay? Still got hopes that he could eventually become our manager one day after all the glowing reports of him from last summer. With his Valencia connections and reputation hopefully he'll be kept on.
-
First time I've seen a couple of those goals. What a player. Still can't believe we had him, he didn't want to leave and we just gave him away because of Alan fucking Pardew. What an absolute tragedy.

Home shirt is decent. Away shirt is very South American looking. 3rd kit reminds me of an Anderlecht shirt from a few seasons back. Quite like all of them to be honest

Sorry if Giggs, but this is a good read: http://www.thedugoutfootball.com/rafa-relegation-newcastle-united/ Sent from my ONE A2001 using Tapatalk

Scored after 2 mins against Cyprus.

Love that - decent number of stripes, no stupid colours anywhere (ignoring the Wonga). It really is that simple to make a good shirt for us.
-
If it's going to be 1-0, please let it be in injury time. Nah, that just gives the press the opportunity to praise a spirited and dogged performance by The King's Men. A scrumptious 5-0 is required.

God I hate that hairy tosser.

 Just a European Cup with 2 different teams. But what else???!? Oh yeah, a domestic cup as well. But what else eh?? No league titles that Everton fans expect eh??!!?

How many Championship games do beIN show? Is it just like Sky Sports, a couple of games per weekend and some midweek ones or do they have more?

If Ashley was there yesterday and saw the match and how the fans were, surely even he would be willing to give Rafa what he wants to make him stay? Even if he's only thinking about money, he must realise that hiring Rafa would virtually guarantee promotion next season and would minimise the money the club will lose next season. Or am I giving the fat oaf too much credit?

I don't hate the squad, mainly as I don't care that much, but if I were more invested in the England set-up I'd be p*ssed off because lessons haven't been learnt and this squad selection is symptomatic of bigger problems, where reputation continues to trump merit. Carroll should be there ahead of Rooney. Not because Carroll is incredible, but because he provides a genuine alternative threat off the bench than what should be England's starting options (ie. Kane and Vardy). He's also in a bit of form which counts for a lot. Defoe should be in ahead of Rashford, but he doesn't play for Man Utd. Antonio I think should be in the squad because he deserves it based on his play, yes. Rooney is 100% s*** now. It's incontrovertible at this point to anyone with eyes which aren't obscured by pride, bias or blind loyalty. The man can't run. His record in qualifying is irrelevant. Those f***ers got knocked out for a reason. Talking about his England form is deliberately misleading. Crouch has 22 in his last 42 internationally, but I wouldn't put him in the squad if he came out of international retirement. If England have aspirations to progress beyond qualification for the tournament proper, they should play their best hand. Spoiler: They won't. Well seeing as Crouch hasn't played for England for years that's a bit of a daft comparison really. Rooney has to be in the squad in my opinion, especially ahead of someone like Carroll who has almost a 1 in 4 scoring record over his career. Yes he offers something different off the bench, but that option is basically long punts forward when you're desperate in the last few minutes. I don't think that makes him worthy of a place in the squad. I would also rather have Sturridge over Defoe. Rashford is there for experience and will be cut, there's no point taking Defoe to then cut him from the squad. I would say that together Rooney, Kane, Vardy and Sturridge offer pretty different options already, there's no need for a big old-fashioned target man. There's no doubt that Antonio has had a good season, but I wouldn't play him as a right back ahead of Clyne or Walker and I wouldn't play him as a wide midfielder ahead of Townsend, Lallana or Sterling so I don't see any point in taking him ahead of players who've earned qualification.
-
Don't really get all the hate over the squad. Rashford is more than likely going to be cut from the main squad so is just going for the experience of being around the England set-up. Delph will probably get cut from the main squad too. Milner has earned his spot for his form since Klopp took over. Rooney is captain and still is capable of scoring important goals, has also been in good form for England recently. I can see why people have an issue with him picking Wilshere, but again I think he's likely to be cut from the squad unless he can get up to speed in these warm-up games and show enough in training. Everyone else has been part of the England set-up for a while and I would say mostly deserve their place in the squad. Who else exactly was he meant to pick? Are people genuinely getting upset that Mark Noble and Antonio aren't in the squad?

So this cunt decided to turn up today. His little laugh after basically being asked if he's staying says everything. Sent from my ONE A2001 using Tapatalk

Imagine them being relegated by us scoring a winner via a deflection off a beachball. Big slices of karma right there, would be beautiful. Was Rafa the Liverpool manager when that happened ? I might be wrong but from memory it wa James who was in goal when that happened, Dudek was there when Benitez arrived. Pretty sure it was Reina in goal for that.

Saying that, the next nearest club is middlesborough and they seem to carry a chip almost as big as the mackems about us. I don't know why, no one here really gives a flying f*** about them. Any excuse. What the actual f***. First time I've seen that, what the hell? Is there a shout of 'PHIL STAMP!' right at the end there?
