Captain Steak Bakes (now managing Blackpool/revising history)
alexf replied to David Edgar's topic in Football
Christ, he's at it again today with his personal pr machine talksport. "Half the stuff he's said is exaggerated and the other half is lies" Why would Dwight Gayle lie. He's making out like he's set out on some sort of hit piece dedicated to Steve Bruce. Wasn't this just a tiny clip of a question he was asked amongst a long podcast about many other topics. I bet Dwight Gayle doesn't give two fucks about Steve Bruce and just answered a question honestly and now he's being laid into by Bruce's buddies. Bet he wishes he'd just passed on the question now. Nothing screams the truth more than when a guy bites back as heavily as Bruce is over this. -

Gabby is one of those people that pronounce England as "EnGERland". Always irritates me Seems talksport have gone all out today, counted 3 video thumbnails on youtube defending their little buddy. Not that i'll be watching any of them, but it's so obvious what they are doing as it was his entire time here. Think that's what grates the most, we could all see with our own eyes how awful he was as a manager, as we did before with Pardew. But to be gaslit constantly and be told we're wrong and he's a great guy and "one of the best mangers of all time" or some shite that Arteta came out with after he was so horrifically let go with a £8m pay out while he'd overseen us sat 19th in the Premier League table with just three points and no wins. Meanwhile we have had Eddie Howe getting called a "gate keeper" and loads of media were questioning his future during that horrific injury crisis last season while he's overseen keeping us up and finishing 11 despite Bruce's awful start in year 1, a cup final and champions league finish in year 2, 7th despite the horrendous injuries and suspensions and 2 decent cup runs in year 3 and a first domestic trophy in 70 years and a chance to qualify CL in year 4. Make it make sense. -
Just as long as they don't get mega money back for him. It's about time these "big" clubs actually take hits on some of the awful big money signings they have made and suffer consequences. If we had wasted £90m or whatever it was on Nunez we'd be fucked due to PSR. But when our Saudi buddies are coming along and paying over the odds for big name clubs cast offs, they will always be able to reinvest comfortably.
-
Yeah there's no need to tarnish the whole thing as Saudi sports washing. Literally makes reference to it in every square. But media will do what they do, doesn't sour my experience.
-
Talk about a downgrade. I like Guehi but he's a completely different bracket to VVD.
-
Don't see how it's even up for debate. We don't need to go for "easier cups" now that we have broken that hoodoo. Get in the champions league and it opens up the opportunity to get Tonali, Isak level players again, plus keeping the ones we have. All the while building the revenue streams and growing the global reputation. In no way will I be gutted if we miss out. But being greedy, I want the boys to go all out in this last ten as we have a great chance of securing top 5 again.
-
Saw other teams fans describing him as "hateful" I'm sorry but other than pathetic tribalistic, 'hate everything that isn't my team' mentality, how is he hateful? I know I can't look at this as a neutral but if I was to compare him to pretty much every manager out there he is the most calm inoffensive respectful guy in the league. Just don't get how anyone could hate him but I guess I might have answered my own question.

Just need to navigate this Brentford game. Make sure it's not a after the lord mayors show scenario. Got a few that might have picked up a few knocks, plus the Gordon suspension and existing injuries. International boys flying off around the world. But the stadium has to be bouncing surely, how could it not be? So the players hopefully will feel ten feet tall and play with no pressure or shackles and hopefully that will overwhelm Brentford despite their strong away form going into this. I think most won't be too bothered if we didn't win as we would have sold our souls for what happened today. But win this and we can set up a cherry on top of this season and finish top 5.
-
I mean the way he's played lately I was pleased he didn't come on. However chuffed he got to be a part of this moment and he played a role in the run up to the final so he's still majorly involved.
-
There were some soft calls in there for sure for them. But glad he kept his cards in his pocket for the most part. Plus there are plenty of refs and Var that would have given Liverpool a pen for that handball. It was a nice change to have some common sense.
-
Tell you what, if we can finish the league campaign strong and snatch a top 5 spot. Players would be utterly stupid not to want to join this project in the summer if we come in for them. Just look at those scenes today, how adored these players are and the team spirit we have. You can win things at Newcastle now and we are on the up. If I was a player I'd be desperate to join.
-
Sit him down now while his love for the toon is full to the brim. He now knows he can win things here and we have the opportunity to get champions league again in these final ten games. This guy is the one we build it all around he's our elite.
-
I mean how do you top that. Big old fashioned bosh header and man of the match trophy to help win your team there first domestic trophy for 70 years, followed up by your first England cap. Man deserves his flowers. He has been the epitome of consistent for us throughout Botman's injury troubles and since moving back to CB has just grown as a player even at the ripe age of nearly 33.
-
Any footage of Dubs? Hope he was able to enjoy it despite the personal disappointment of being left out. But it was the right call, you have to play the opponent and Popes sweeping and superior height and shot stopping were more suited to Liverpools strengths

What I noticed right from the off was that he was right into everything aggressively. That's what made him so good I'm his first period here and he set the tone and example for everyone in those early days. When he had his wobble, whether it was physical decline or off the field mental well fare, he noticeably started backing off and looking scared to engage due to lack of pace. But not today, that was the Trips we fell in love with, smashing in, winning duels, pushing forward, aerially strong, organising those around him. When he held that hammy I was so gutted for him and for us what impact it might have 2nd half. No bother he powered through and kept going. Top lad.
-
That's the right phase for him and Tripps and arguably Burn aswell but yeah they all played like a version of them from a few years ago. Just a few levels up from the norm. Just showed how much it means to them all. To see so many of the players crying today was a real show of how much it means to them. They aren't just mindless rich footballers, most of these lads genuinely care and wanted to deliver this for us fans aswell as themselves.
-
Kept thinking about that awful commentary few weeks back when we played them in the league and they were taking turns tugging off Salah, "he just plays the game with a smile on his face" Didn't see any smiles from him today did we.
-
There's a lot to unpack there. Let the emotion hit you whatever way. Not everyone cries or whatever. But maybe it hasn't sunk in yet that it's real. Or maybe because the nature of those excruciating injury time minutes may have altered the pure joy. But whatever way it doesn't change that your team has finally done it
-
Looked like classic symptoms of cramp so wouldn't worry. Just showed he left everything he had out there. But yeah that assist perfect. Don't remember him ever winning a header so to do it now and put it right on his buddies toe, perfect.
-
Was a blessing he got to play a warm up against West Ham. Someone must have said to him, don't be afraid to put it in with your left. Thought he was excellent. Played with real confidence in himself.
-
So i know we were all properly too terrified to believe, but that first ten mins or so after all of our players had a touch did anyone else get the little tingle of hope? Started for me with Trippier winning his first duel, then Tino went on a positive run and I just thought "hello, there up for this, it might not be the usual not turning up". All of them were near perfect, the only slip was the Bruno failed pirouette that led to the goal, which shows just how clinical they can be if we had gifted hem anything else. But no criticism of Bruno he was great apart from that. But despite everyone player great big standouts for me were Burn, Joelinton, Livramento and Tonali in terms of overall performance. Murphy Isak and Barnes did the business aswell. Trippier great first half and managed his injury or whatever he had well 2nd half. Love them all. They are all heroes. I still can't believe it finally happened.
-
Boys should be floating on air. That's a massive weight off our shoulders and the fans should be buzzing their tits off for every game now. So I'd like to think we're gonna gather some momentum and smash these next ten games. Depended on injuries and how much today took out of some of the lads ofcourse. But with an international break, if the boys that aren't playing can rest up and hopefully the Brazilians boys aren't too tired when they get back. We should be buzzing for that next home game.
-
What an unbelievable performance. He's tall enough but he looked ten foot tall today, with the England call up and then to not put a foot wrong all game, mopping up everything that came in the box and to score the goal every Geordie has dreamed of as a kid. Legend.
-
Literally gave everything he had today. Enjoy it lad, you're part of history.
