Would love for our midfield to look something like this these days (if everyone were fit): Pancrate - Guthrie - Barton - Jonas Lots of pace, movement, and creativity in that midfield and Guthrie and Barton both have enough engine to track back.

what's her name?

My favorite part of this thread is everyone saying "50k off the wage bill" - how did you figure that out? As far I know we're not privy to how much many, if not all (bar Riise at Liverpool that one time) footballers make a week for sure, especially at our own club.

Would love for some of those teams to start a Euro league and leave the rest to "us" - there really is far too much of a gulf between even the Championship and the Premier League, let alone the "top four" and their CL money. Not really in a state to think about the specifics but having a few of those top teams heading out to where they think they "deserve" to be might be good to knock them down a peg or two. It would also be hilarious to watch teams like Tottenham beg to join in a Euro "super" league.

It has nothing to do with the fact that we're almost certain to go up and if he gets to play he gets to play infront of 50k people in Newcastle rather than sitting on the bench in Blackburn watching some of the worst football this country has to offer? If I had the choice I'd rather sit on the bench for Newcastle rather than Blackburn - lack of drive doesn't play into this at all.

I think you far overestimate our global standing with players.

This is one of the saddest threads I have ever seen on this board - just look at how many people voted Keegan. No wonder the media has a field day with us.

Hasn't Kilgallon already proved he wasn't good enough for the Prem?
-
A genuine question - do you reckon Muamba is proper midtable Premiership quality ? News flash, we're in the Championship, no where near midtable Premiership quality.

To be honest, we need more players like that at the club - ones whose name you don't hear often because they aren't fucking up. Re: the subject of this thread - we would be absolutely stupid not to sign him up. He seems like he wants to be here, he's solid, and he'll be cheap. Also, someone above stated that Simpson may not "do enough" in the second half of the season to warrant a contract, but isn't that the case with any signing? You're always inheriting that risk when you sign a new player that they may not live up to the standard. We should count ourselves fortunate that we got a sneak peek at a potential signing without having to really throw any large amount of cash around.

Jones' cross for Bent today was fucking gorgeous.

Little disappointed Nicky Butt didn't feel the need to pull off an overhead kick in this one.

Yeah but his hair was sooo dreamy.

His equalizer. Was out of my seat when it happened, totally ecstatic. And to see how much it meant to him at the time, I was very happy for him.

One of my favorite Newcastle memories.

Really? Strange move, given the IMMENSENESS of Friedel, and Guzan looking superb every time he gets a chance. Is he any good? If Friedel hadn't retired from the USMNT I feel like he could easily be the #1 keeper for the national team. Guzan is great too. Aston Villa are pretty well taken care of for a while as far as keepers go.

When I first read his post I thought of a joke with the same intention, but it doesn't get simpler or better than how you put it. Well done. It'd only be funny of they didn't keep getting linked in the papers tbh. I think you're missing the joke - it's probably lost in translation.

He's the only player who can run and yet go backwards. He's not the worlds best footballer by any stretch of the imagination but he gets absolutely slated for no good reason. He has never done anything but go out there and give 100% (even if his 100% is not up to everyone's par) and been a model professional and yet gets tons of schtick. I just don't understand it. There are far worse footballers and professionals at this club that get no where near as many negative words attributed to them. He is complete and utter wank. He was a complete embarrassment in his last game for us. He was boo'ed as he went off and deservedly so. It wouldn't surprise me if his contract isn't paid up in January. Booing a player is never ever deserved and if you do, you are a "charva" (as you all call it) and deservedly so. Go somewhere else and be a douche. If you boo, you are one of two things: 1) a young kid or 2) an old bitter drunk. Have a word with yourself before you outwardly boo and learn to actually support a team.

yes i because i don't rate mascherano at all... jimmy bullard is better player when he is not injured. And Gareth Barry is miles away ahead mascherano to be DM. dude, I am not one to usually come on here and point out people's glaring fault in logic but seriously, Barry/Bullard > Mascherano is out of this world man. There's no way that is the truth unless you're living in some English bubble that has no bearing on the real world.

Geremi gets a seriously bad rap at this club and I can't figure out why.

And Liverpool haven't won in 10 matches. He didn't start last season either matey. Liverpool won a week ago btw. Forgot who I was debating with, my bust. Either way, the difference is clear to see on the pitch when Kuyt (and Benayoun) is there. Him and Benayoun graft and put in a lot of hard work and it lets Gerrard and Torres move freely and be more creative - Benayoun and Kuyt also chip in with their own fair amount of goals. Babel offers no where near as much as Kuyt.
