  1. Was only a matter of time since the major growth in TV revenue over the next decade is going to come from international deals. Hard to imagine how they will get five more clubs to change their position without some concessions.
  2. First half was decent, could have been 1-0 up although 1-1 would have been fair too. Overall a very poor second half. Another 5-10 min and I think we score at least one but can say that about a lot of games. Atsu was really poor in the second half. Thought Perez played pretty well. Would like to see Yedlin getting forward more. I
  3. Why do the Brighton fans hate Shelvey so much? Am I forgetting something from last season?
  4. Aye and then he said we have created better chances with less of the ball. I like him tbh, seems to actually pay attention. He was one of the first to catch on to the anti Pardew sentiment and understood it. He also recognizes that any problem at the club goes back to Ashley. Clearly does research to understand how the fans are thinking.
  5. Jon Champion - “Their fans are already talking about qualifying for Europe.” Where does this shit come from?
  6. There’s a show on in the US called Promoted, featuring us right now. Some great footage but also lots of stereotypes. The worst from Simon Bird when he said something like“12th or 13th is boring, the Newcastle fans either want to be at the top or fighting relegation so that every game means something.” That’s like the new rather lose 4-3.
  7. I’m assuming that number includes the debt, or at least a significant portion of it.
  8. Can’t really say this time it’s a smokescreen to divert attention from some other crisis. The three straight wins have dulled any negativity from the transfer window.
  9. 380m for a Premier League club with a big(ish)stadium, a world class manager, no debt, and a large, loyal fan base is not a bad price. There is still growth coming in the TV rights, especially internationally.
  10. Aye agree with that, if nothing else he's consistent and i doubt he's going to make massive mistakes but there are aspects to his game which i have no doubt Rafa will want to upgrade on. It's also really hard to quantify much of anything besides great saves and ones he should have made. Does he help keep the back four organized? Is he making the back four play slightly deeper on average because we know he's slower off the line? Would we have more possession or create more counter attacking opportunities if he had quicker/better distribution?
  11. I would think if reports of the clause are accurate it's more for our protection in that we wouldn't be forced to buy him if he was a major flop.
  12. Just added him to my fantasy team, so we're probably fucked.
  13. Well there's the argument that in selling Walker and getting in Aurier we've made money without getting all that much worse at RB, but let's leave that aside for now. Why spend that much on a back-up RB? Because full-backs are crucial to the way we play and because we are in four serious competitions. And because the money is there. Our reserve LB played more than half last season after Rose got injured and may end up playing more than half this season as well. At this level, if you don't have strong competition in every position then you are simply not going to be good enough. Same reason City just spent the GDP of a small island on fullbacks.

"Television viewers will be able to watch live coverage of any midweek Sky Bet Championship match under a revolutionary five-year, £600 million deal between Sky TV and the EFL. Details of the agreement for 2019-2024, which the EFL communicated to its 72 members clubs last night, are due to be announced today. The value of the right has increased by 36% from the present £88m a year deal and the new arrangements will allow far greater access for fans to live coverage of EFL matches. The impact will be felt this season as Sky will be able to screen some midweek Championship matches immediately. From next season the broadcaster can show every midweek match via its interactive service so that viewers can choose which game to watch. There are eight full midweek rounds of Championship matches so there will be regular head to head clashes with Champions League matches being shown on BT Sport. In another development, clubs in the Championship, League One, and League Two will be allowed to stream live on their website all of their matches kicking off outside the Saturday 3pm window, apart from those being shown live on Sky. Sky will have the option to screen up to 150 EFL games each season, not including those on the interactive service. The 15 play-off matches and 15 League Cup matches are also part of Sky's package, as are the semi finals and final of the Checkatrade Trophy. The EFL's decision to offer a choice of matches to the armchair viewer, especially for the midweek rounds, is likely to be discussed by the Premier League chairmen next month when they discuss strategy for their next TV deal, which is expected to be finalised early next year." Welcome to the 21st century.
  15. I think after yesterday's performance he should have gotten more time, but it's not really that surprising. The PL TV money is only going to accelerate the already ridiculous short-term thinking.
  16. Opta Stats 5 tackles won 4 interceptions 2 successful dribbles 1 key pass 1 aerial won 1 effective clearance Only dispossessed once
  17. Really good header by Joselu. Unreal save from Fabianski. Who is even the next best option in the #10 position?
