  1. The only thing I have a problem with is Isak and Willock playing three games in a week right after coming back. It will be hard to defend if either one has another setback.
  2. Forgetting for a second the temporary logistics of where to play for a couple years, would those opposed to a new stadium be more open to it if it was on the exact same site?
  3. This game is well on its way to selling out. Entire lower level was gone within 2 days. Revenue is going to get split in a few directions, but pretty sure each of the three clubs will make more money in just ticket sales from two friendlies each than we did for the three CL home games.
  4. They very clearly didn’t. They both spent more relative to others and had less competition.
  5. Kind of a dumb thing, but cool for him. All of the new Panini Prizm cards (these might only be in the US, not sure) are using Miley's rookie card as one of the featured cards. Also, Isak is on the box. https://www.paniniamerica.net/2023-24-panini-prizm-premier-league-soccer-trading-card-box-hobby.html
  6. Oh, he reports to Nickson now per Douglas.
  7. I can't even tell if that's a promotion from "Head of First Team Technical Scouting."
  8. I'm sorry, I need to know what metric or source has us above Spurs.
  9. Where are you getting 6th from?
  10. That's if they just switch from one to the other. UEFA has versions of both.
  11. No, it's all based on amortisation. Tonali adds £11m to this season's player amortisation, not £55m (or whatever the actual numbers are). Then you also add his wages of ~£7m. So, roughly speaking, he added £18m in total on the cost side for this season and the next four afterwards.
  12. Our wages in the 2022/23 accounts were £187m. This includes CL bonuses, etc. but we also added Tonali, Barnes, Tino, and Bruno raise since then so let's just call that the current number. Player amortisation in the last accounts was £87m. Revenue was £250m which does not include Sela, CL, or Adidas. 2023/24 will have CL and the loss of that will be roughly offset by Adidas in 2024/25 and beyond. Our new baseline should hover around £300m, not counting other new deals or player sales. Really rough, napkin style math would say we're around 90% right now when you factor in the Maxi sale. UEFA's regulations to be under 90% kicked in for this season so presumably we're under. One weird quirk is UEFA's is based on a calendar year calculation and, presumably, the PL will continue on the 12 month period that lines up with the accounts. Also, here's UEFA's punishments which is why that's the main thing I'm curious about for the new PL rules:
  13. Friday would have been bullshit since we play the Monday before.
  14. Yup, changing anything in the SBR years may have kept NUFC above Spurs, Ashley out, etc. But the Keegan years and immediately following is a crossroads that could have led to NUFC being one of the giants.
  15. Asked whether he has been reassured by the owners, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Howe replied: “It’s difficult for me to speak for them, but I have felt a support and an understanding for the season that we have had and things that have been thrown at us and things that have happened. “That’s really important from my side that I do feel that support.”
  16. Their ownership group came together over time. They weren’t all there before these rules started to get voted in.
  17. It will all come down to the details, but this seems potentially encouraging.
  18. This is a great quote: “I’ve got to somehow find a way to put Crystal Palace against Erling Haaland, and if you have an injury at Palace, you don’t get to pull a £15 million player off the bench, you’ve got to take someone from your academy, because you can’t afford to have that (£15 million) player on your bench. That is not sport. Is anyone really having fun with this? It’s broken.” Also helps dispute the quite frankly odd narrative that American owners are only interested in financial restrictions.
  19. I agree with the part that we are now able to compete for 90 minutes. We aren't dead on our feet anymore though I still think there are lingering effects. I'm actually surprised where you made the split for comparison. Overall I think we had a much better January than February. Sunderland - Not spectacular, but given our form and the occasion we did well City - Competed well for 60-70 minutes. We had no fresh legs or answers for De Bruyne and other changes. Fair enough Fulham - Not the greatest, but decent enough away from home. Villa - The best we've looked by far since November. ---------- Luton - Crazy game; got a pass from me because I still think three games in a week, especially then, is a problem for us Forest - Pretty fortunate to get 3 points. This is one that highlights our ability to compete better now, but it wasn't good. And a lot of midfield/defensive problems on full display. Bournemouth - Also competing, but not good. Draw maybe fair, but if anything lucky to get a point. Arsenal - Overrun from the first minute. Blackburn - I think we got better after the first half and in December I don't think we could have pushed in the first part of extra time like we did the other night. Competing, but not good. The more time passes the more confused I am by the Villa game. I don't think I'm smart enough to understand why at least parts of that performance haven't reappeared in the subsequent month, although I'm sure the fact that the same midfield three had to play seven games in a row is not helping.
  20. You can debate moment, but at least in recent history I think it has to be in the 1996-98 timeframe. Whether that's a better GK, simply scoring in the first half against Man United, Cantona not existing, whatever. Does Keegan leave if Newcastle had been champions? Or maybe no matter what Keegan would have been a star that burned bright and fast in which case it's appointing the right person to follow him or may not losing Ginola, Les, and Shearer (to injury) that one summer. Pick the moment(s), but that was an opportunity for Newcastle to become established as one of the elite, battling with Man United and Arsenal largely unopposed for years, at the same time the Premier League was beginning to gain serious momentum. NUFC would be one of the gatekeepers had some things gone differently then.
  21. UEFA’s punishments start with a series of escalating fines, so it’s somewhat lenient if you’re willing to pay. It’d be good if the PL’s threshold is a little higher as has been speculated. We’d be in a decent spot on that metric.
  22. If we get Pope back for the final 8 or so games and the squad we have today is still intact then I’d be concerned if there wasn’t a noticeable improvement in the run-in. Generally I think some are expecting too much, too soon in terms of some returning players providing a quick fix.
  23. But no one offered more. And I’m quite certain no one will pay Saudi more to bring him back to Europe. I love Maxi, but it’s pretty obvious that football clubs don’t value him the way some on here do.
