Or a nation fueled by credit card debt
-
It's NYC, but $780m for 25k capacity. Looks cool:
-
The fact Eddie took a few looks at him and determined he was a lost cause says it all.
-
I'm going to let it continue to keep me up at night until it's proven untrue.
-
I'd take £15k if someone will take his wages.
-
Could really use a few starts from Targett as a showcase. Shifting him in the summer would be a huge win.
-
I don't think there's any way we'll spend that much. Our wages + amortisation costs are already £255m (using Swiss Ramble's rough 90% estimate for how much players/staff contribute to the wage number). These are all very rough numbers and UEFA uses calendar years instead to make this exceptionally complicated, but that amount on £320m in revenue gets us just below the 80% mark that UEFA will apply for 2024/25. I've posted before about optimism for the next few transfer windows based on the current PL PSR regulations, but UEFA's cost control metric and similar coming to the PL is definitely more difficult for us. That said, there are a number of angles here. The PL % may be higher and may also get phased in over a couple years. Plus, the UEFA penalty for a first time offense under 10% is 10-25% of the overage so we could push things to 89% (£285m on £320m revenue) and then pay a penalty of at most £7.5m. Increasing revenue really is the key and we have work to do just to get back to ~£320m in 2024/25. Ashworth could help and a training ground/shirt sponsor this summer would be huge. Looking at this again recently I can see why there will definitely be player sales.

Feels like one that’s plausible we’d inquire and then not be interested at the price.
-
Definitely possible. I do find it hard to believe that a club is just going to accept a relegation if a points deduction is the difference. But there's also so little time between seasons that I don't know how anything gets done about it.
-
FFP figures (estimates from Swiss Ramble). The actual losses were £73m each time.

He got hurt in the Forest game, yes. He got injured four times this season. 3 games in a week (hamstring) - Fair to be annoyed by this; he is fragile 6 games / 368 minutes in 2.5 weeks (hamstring) - Not reasonable 6 games / 453 minutes in 2.5 weeks (calf) - Even less reasonable Torn pec wrestling - freak injury IMO the responsibility for two of his four injuries this season are on the club. A player with his fitness record, who may not have even been 100% fit at the time, can't be asked to do what he did on two separation occasions.

Not this year. Everyone doing their own thing. Chelsea and City also apparently coming to the US. Not surprisingly part of the problem are the red clubs: "The Summer Series has faced several other issues, one being an ongoing dispute within the Premier League. England’s top flight centrally wishes to package a collective broadcast deal for showing the fixtures. However, several Premier League clubs generate significant revenue by selling subscriptions to watch pre-season fixtures on their platforms. These clubs believe they can secure more lucrative match fees by organising games through deals with promoters independently." There's also the fact Copa America is in the US this summer and then NBC, the Premier League's partner, is the broadcaster for the Olympics. It's been reported that it will be back in 2025, but the Club World Cup will be in the US that summer and then the World Cup in 2026. Could be challenging.

You're missing the CL game. And then he started again three days after that stretch and that's when he got hurt.
-
2023/24 accounts won't be out until next Jan. or later, but we have to. The year dropping off (the blended Covid season) had a £13m profit. The others are roughly a £60m loss and a £58m loss. This current season will need to be profitable to balance the three year period and then starting next season the £60m loss will drop off.

I hope Freedman is locked into a deal at Palace so they can play hardball too. Fuck Man United.
-
He played over 400 minutes in less than two weeks. It was reckless.
-
Linked to Roma also.

No, here's from a post I did a few weeks ago:
-
My preference unless we find a reasonably priced, young alternative to serve as a backup striker is: - Keep Isak - Keep Wilson - Sign an elite RW who can also play up front like Gordon - Limit Wilson to one game per week max. If Isak is hurt and Wilson has played that week then we function as if he's hurt and use either Gordon or the RW. (If we can get a good fee for Wilson then I agree it might be the last chance to sell him, but I don't know what that looks like)
-
My impression is this is a much more rigorous set of requirements with the onus on the club to prove it's ok as opposed to the PL (or whomever) needing to prove it's not ok.
-
People are being really harsh on Wilson and also underestimating how difficult / expensive it might be to replace his goals. We ran him into the ground on two separate occasions this season, and now a freak upper body injury is the last straw.
-
Of course they use Anthony Gordon as the image for the article. That's clearly the most relevant example of a club using inflated sponsorships.
-
I'm glad we can't spend whatever we want because it would be ridiculous - either luxury retirement home ridiculous (Ronaldo / Messi / Neymar / Benzema) or unfair ridiculous (Mbappe, Bellingham, Osimhen). But it's equally silly that we can't spend anything.
-
The situations are pretty similar, but I don't think I'd want to trade financial places with you. We don't have all the details yet, but.... 2022/23 accounts have Villa with both higher wages and amortisation costs on £33m less in revenue. NUFC's wages for this time period will also include CL bonus money (though I assume Villa's have a European bonus). For 2023/24 NUFC adds the Sela shirt sponsor plus CL revenue, as well as the sale of Maxi. NUFC revenue will exceed £300m for the first time ever. Villa also has a new record shirt sponsor deal, player sales, plus ECL money and higher PL merit. I'd expect Villa's wages to rise in this season's accounts more than Newcastle's, while revenue continues to lag behind. 2024/25 we both add Adidas. For NUFC this should largely offset the loss of CL revenue. Remains to be seen if we'll have European money; Villa will most likely have CL money. Maybe revenue roughly equals out by this point (not counting player sales, which is hard to predict), though I expect both sides to have made progress on the commercial front by then. We'll see who does it better. But, importantly, Newcastle is currently in the midst of the season that needs to produce a profit to keep the three period within the rules. This means in each of the next two seasons there will be large deficits rolling off. Villa, on the other hand, now have to keep things balanced with a loss of over £100m remaining in play until the end of 2024/25. For UEFA's cost control ratio (wages + amortisation / revenue) and whatever version comes to the PL, both clubs have work to do but NUFC is in a better starting position on all inputs. I'm not really looking at player sales because neither team is in a position to sell their best players without adding tremendous risk. Watkins, Luiz, Bruno could all bring in big money, but replacing them could be difficult. Both have fringe players that may or may not be able to be moved on if every club is worried about spending. Ramsey is a nice wild card for you, though the constant injuries aren't helping. It wouldn't be for as much, but Newcastle could sell Longstaff or Anderson if necessary.

We're pretty fortunate to have gotten where we are with a single investment at CB.
