The big spell for them is late December and January when the AFCoN is on it seems. They could be safe by then
  7. He's rightly had his critics but as one of his biggest (critics) I think it's important to acknowledge he helped us towards victory last night, and collectively we fucked up.
  8. Thought he was a difference maker last night and hats off to him. Needs to transfer that into regular performances now.

    Dan Burn

Thing is he actually wasn't. Defensively he is generally fine unless isolated but as we are all too aware when isolated he is done for pace there. Brentford it happened a few times, but other than that there have been other contributory factors when he's been ran out. The non-penalty versus West Ham springs to mind when Gordon simply couldn't be arsed to track back. What we have in Hall and Tino are England's two full backs. So Burn is going to do well to match Hall in all around game play, but defensively he is fairly sound in the right system versus the right teams, even at LB. We all know he's a CB though. I think folk are just being unnecessarily harsher than the reality of him playing there tbh. In seasons gone by, he was dicked regularly there but he hasn't been ad much this season, because we haven't played as high and stretched.
  10. Aye. I thought they were awful tbh. A squad of talented individuals, a team of less than the sum of it's parts.

You're right again. Tackling and reading the game are talents and leadership is maybe a talent but perhaps best described as a desirable personality trait. Botman doesn't yet have that but technically (with the ball) is far superior and can tackle well. Botman is undoubtedly the better CB overall I'd say (as much as I love Dan Burn) but I am not sure he is the better fit for the team necessarily. Burns' experience and leadership are vital not only to the younger players but to the team as a whole.

I had some lad come up to me at full time and ask why I wasn't singing "for the team like that all game" after spending approximately 80mins singing Deadly serious he was and all. Think I'll call the silent chap out on Saturday.

And to your point that is the marker for more talented players to ensure they perform with the same professionalism as he does. If they do, then they'll replace him.

    Dan Burn

Aye, it will. But perhaps he just brings more than say Botman presently. Sure Botman is Rolls Royce, who can deny it, but maybe rewarding a players leadership and consistency offers more to the pack than someone who can play a fancy pass? I am (of course) being a tad facetious also here, but it's what many people seem to overlook. When we're in need of inspiration I'd be looking to Dan Burn more than the vast majority of the squad. Hence why he is in the leadership group. (Not aimed at you BTW but more a continuation of what we both said...)
  15. Not worthy of a thread and possibly a pet hate but why must we micro analyse and blame players or the manager after every non-win? Collectively Newcastle didn't do enough to win or indeed lose the game and we drew. That's all there is to it like (as a fan). We've won 6 of the last 7 at home. All PL or CL opposition.

Could have done better on the first. Will give that. Folk very quick to forget he's been one of our most consistent players for over a year now year though. He just isn't one of the cool kids for some folk, I feel.

    Dan Burn

Appreciate it's probably being a bit facetious but a prancing carthorse is not Dan Burn in any game and is just a bollocks description of the lad. He's been an absolute diamond addition to the squad not only as a player but as a person.
  19. Fair result. Both teams showed why they are where they are. Both sides much more capable of more on the whole. Spurs a team of flags players who think their manager is beneath them and they're on course to play for Barcelona. Newcastle lacking self belief and apprehensive about what they're capable of.
