Personally I hate it, and it frustrates me. If we ever get a dodgy decision I dont ignore it, I usually just think 'ah well, that covers up for the shit decision we got last week.' But that only covers decisions that result in a goal. It doesnt cover red cards etc because players are still banned for a game or two. People seem to be forgetting decisions tending to favour the top 4 too. Bring in one official watching a TV and give them as much power as a linesman and we make the game better without slowing it down or turning it into a sterile, non-ambiguity tech fest. I see your point, I really do. I read your posts regarding the matter, and your one of annoyance in General Chat about how people don't seem to grasp your concept - please don't regard me as one of those mongs. If we do bring in this one official watching a TV, whenever a decision is still caused incorrectly, there will be calls for more, more, more and more technology, officials, all the sort of stuff, until the game has turned into a sterile bore-fest. We shouldn't even start off this whole thing imo, the game may well be a bit flawed but it's been this way for years and years, and we don't need to change. For one thing; they've tried the "box official" in the Europa League this season and they have been proven to be pretty useless.
  3. Must need a neck operation from having to stare at the sky to watch the ball

Disagree. That January transfer window was a massive failure. Given and N'Zogbia out, Nolan/Taylor/Lovenkrands in turned out to be terrible business, and in particular the sale of Zog really hurt us. As Sir Bobby put it, we sold the last pair of (occassionally) effective legs in midfield, someone capable of creating and scoring goals from nothing, and replaced them with cloggers out of their depth in the Premiership. We'd have gone down under Kinnear because of that window, irrespective of who was responsibe for the sales/signings. With one man at the helm (okay, it's Kinnear) and not Hughton who was planning no more than a day ahead, or Shearer who came in with totally new fangled ideas and formations that clearly were going to take time to have any effect, we'd have done it imo. Having that stability would have seen us through - there's no way you can say we went down because of that window, because ultimately we went down by a single point, and were one goal away from rescuing ourselves at Villa Park. Our relegation was by no means a forgone conclusion.

Does anyone not think that goal-line technology, video refs and such would totally kill the game? It may not be perfect, parts of the game may be hazy and slightly flawed: but it's fucking brilliant, isn't it? All this technology would totally kill off any forms of debate, discussion, etc after a game, which is entirely part of supporting your team imo. Sitting in the pub, moaning into your pint about "how on earth didn't he give offside" or "the ball crossed the line, can't believe we only drew" is just as much part of the game as actually watching it is imo. It may be shit when a decision doesn't go your way, and the players/manager/fans are all complaining and asking for video technology; but when the shoe is on the other foot and they win via a dodgy penalty, or a blatantly offside goal, etc - they don't fucking well ask for it then, do they? These flaws are part and parcel of our beautiful game, so I think people need to stop asking for frigging cameras and stuff whenever theres a dodgy call. Referees make mistakes, and it is incredibly frustrating when it goes against a team you support. But, lets not kill off the arguing, laughing, debating and voting afterwards. It's really great.

I think if Kinnear didn't fall ill (so you discount Hughton #2 and Shearer reigns) then we would have stayed up by a few points.

  8. Always worth posting this, dated as June 2007 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-460275/If-I-played-Spain-theyd-build-team-insists-Pompey-striker-LuaLua.html
  9. Has been their best player everytime I've seen them this season. Shame his career has been so injury ravaged really, he could have gone on to be top class. Since we signed him the only spell that hasn't really worked out for him has been Liverpool weirdly, but he did ok there. He was decent at Liverpool, but he never got a proper run in the team (although I put that down to Rafa's mental rotation policy, which was at its peak when Bellamy was there).
  10. I personally find it quite amusing that Bellamy is City's most effective player by a mile despite all the silly money they've pissed up the wall.
  11. Complete rubbish. Not really, he's speaking from experience.
  12. He can probably just about afford a decent sized bag of pic-n-mix from the cinema with that.
  13. Found some value here: Huddersfield, Lincoln City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Burton Albion £5 pays £65 on bluesq.
  14. French people tend to be shit as a rule. Irish people tend to be cunts, but in a really playful and good way.
  15. I'd love it if they said they sacked him because "an Aquarius just isn't management material in this day and age".
  16. Domenech, how on earth is he still in a job?
  17. A colossal £9 up with Keane scoring.
  18. £9 better off btw with Keane scoring.
  19. Gerrin, come on the paddies.
