  1. If Colo was dropped from the team for his performance against Chelsea, Shola should be dropped in the Amazon river with a knife in his back and concrete on his feet after his 'showing' today. Who knows, maybe then he'd show some urgency.
  2. He's right - Carroll has proved he's up for it whilst Shola has proved he's still the idle, ambling waster that he was 5 years ago. Btw, did anyone notice that as soon as Setanta showed Carroll being stripped and ready, Shola won a flick on, then sprinted back to muscle Whelan off the ball and lay it off to a black and white shirt? Funny that, how the useless sod waits till he sees his replacement before putting in any effort. We should have Carroll standing on the touchline in his kit for 90 minutes, maybe then the fucker will actually put a decent shift in. Better still, we'll start Carroll and have Ranger as his replacement, with Shola in the reserves.
  3. This is still a thread about Andy Carroll - no? Just rename it "Andy Carroll thread".
  4. This. I'd assume Shearer tried to get Shola playing, now he knows he's still as shit as he was the day he left, that Carroll will now leap ahead of him in the pecking order.
  5. Could someone please merge this and the other Carroll thread, it's annoying having to post and check both for the same subject. Thankyou.
  6. It's not surprising at all though. They're a bunch of two bit thugs that grind out results by knocking the shit out of their opponents, and that's how they'll survive. I used to have a positive ish attitude towards Stoke, due to their history and whatnot, but after this game I really do wish they'd go down. Their fans are cunts as well. Anyone see the situation where they threw something at Raylor? Action has to be taken by the FA imo. Docked points, hopefully.
  7. He's one of few players these days who can generate power on a header from even a teased, hung-up cross. He did it again West Ham and he did it again today.
  8. He's better to have on the pitch from a defensive point of view too - he chases and closes down more than Shola, and is better at marking at set pieces and giving the opposition players someone to worry about at our dead ball situations. Whilst Shola lost his man every time, Carroll headed away almost every Stoke corner whilst he was on the field. Well done, now keep it up.
  9. Not only the goal, more effort and more headers won than Shola in 20 minutes - but he also managed to head away about 5 out of 6 corners whilst he was on the pitch (I think Harper punched the other). Has to start next game, preferably with Martins.
  10. Not at all. I thought he tackled back and then kept possesion (normally he manages column A but then fucks up with column B) well, particularly in the second half.
  11. Harper 6.5 - Dealt well with the crosses and long throw-ins from Stoke, did what he had to well. I still think he needs to lose a bit of weight, and although his kicking was still poor it was vastly improved from the Arsenal game. R.Taylor 5 - Gets worse every week, the occasion when he was presented with about four seconds to tee up the ball, and ping a cross into the area, and he managed to put it out for a Stoke throw on the other side. I mean, for fucks sake. Once again, naff set pieces and some gash positioning. Edgar 6 - Struggled manfully after being thrown in, made some good headers etc but was skinned time and again by fat 80's porn star Fuller, can't wait till we get rid of him like. Beye 6 - Can't complain, made two excellent last ditch challenges to put first Etherington and later Pugh off at the back post to make them drag their shots wide - composed as ever but still a bit prone to being outmuscled. Bassong 6 - Out of position and didn't look comfortable attacking down the left side, although defensively he was average, a few class turns and robberies of Stoke players was counter-balanced by some shit positioning and marking. Guthrie 5.5 - Did little, as he feels his way back to fitness. Correctly removed by Shearer. Nolan 5 - No anticipation, drive or ambition whatsoever. Made a few tidy passes in the last 20 minutes as we got more possesion, but he's still about two yards off the pace. Needs to join Harper on the Cambridge diet as soon as possible. Butt 6 - Steady game, for once he made some excellent tackles and then popped the ball off three yards to keep possesion. Should have been captain. Doesn't get more than a 6 though because his shooting was wayward (again!) and he keeps trying these crossfield Paul Scholes type balls that never come off. At least he's trying though, not as bad as usual. Duff 6.5 - Provided the cross for Carroll's equaliser and for once kept the ball in key areas well. You can tell Shearer's had words with him as his positioning and anticipation are far better. General delivery was hit and miss although 10 times better than Ryan Taylor's. Owen 5 - Played very deep again, and when it's only Shola ahead of him that simply doesn't work. Was anonymous second half, one header saved by the keeper early doors and little else of note. Ameobi 1 - People will say it's harsh giving him such a shit mark, but it's fully warranted. Where do I start? He can't mark from corners, he can't shoot, dribble, run with pace (one decent move ended up with Shola doing his walking in treacle impression as he tried to reach a through ball he was about 4 yards closer than slow meathead Wilkinson, who got there first) - he doesn't even try for gods sake. The funniest part was, as soon as Carroll was stripped and ready for action, he looked up, won a flick-on, then sprinted back and won possesion and gave it to Butt to launch an attack - funny that. The best bit is, his replacement scored and defended corners like a centre half, meaning this waste of space should be out of the team. SUBS Jonas 6.5 - Added endeavour and creativity to the attack and won a succession of free kicks. Kept the ball well, and although his crosses were awful, at least they tended to find the other winger on the opposite flank opposed to drifting for a throw-in. Carroll 8 - Scored an excellent header to level the match, defended every corner with a dominant header (are you watching, Shola?) and generally put himself about, winning more headers than Ameobi in his 25 minutes. Has to start the next game. SHEARER 7 - Correctly replaced Guthrie after the interval, and Ameobi (although he's marked down for starting him) and the players he brought on made noticeable differences.

    Nile Ranger

Agreed. When does LuaLua get back from his loan btw?
  13. Tickets for the game go on sale from The Seahorse (pub next to the ground) this Tuesday - £20 adults and £10 kids.
  14. A win is crucial. A draw is not ideal, but not disatrous. A loss is unthinkable.
  15. Playoff finals next season Johnsons Pain Trophy in a few years more like.

    Ryan Taylor/Nolan

I agree with almost everything that Big TRon has said in this thread. He's hit an entire row of nails straight on the head, and seems to have a good understanding of the two players' ability.

    Ryan Taylor/Nolan

Nolan is simply living off the reputation he had at Bolton, for hitting a few stunning volleys a season.
