As shit as he was first half, Obertan looked about as useful as he ever has in a Newcastle shirt in the second half imo. Proper terrible form if some of our lot have been barracking him like that, as has been said: by all means call him out and say he's crap on here, but in the stadium etc fans should know better, and get behind the lads. If you can't even bring yourself to cheer him then don't say anything at all. It proper does my head in when people boo Shola coming on etc. As much as I don't rate Obertan, I'm not at all impressed by that if it's true.

Like what people have been saying on here tonight about our performance, or lack of. We performed better than Liverpool have tonight, like. We were workmanlike and kept it tight for the most part. Hearts have had loads of the ball and created quite a few chances. I don't think Harper made a save, there was the goal and that was basically it.

You'll not hear anything of how shit Liverpool have been now. It'll be all 'professional' and 'did their job' etc. They've been absolutely shit and Rodgers has still looked clueless.

His experience showed tonight, he really looked like one of the senior guys who was always in control. Amazing free kick.

In no way did he play well in the second half. He set up two of the best three chances we had in the second half. I think he's shit, but he looked much improved in the second half. He kept the ball better.

That was the first competitive first-team game of the season for Harper, Ryan Taylor, Williamson, Tavernier, Gosling, Marveaux, Bigirimana, Amalfitano and Campbell. Obertan and Anita had played five and twenty-five minutes each respectively. It was a bit rusty but good enough in the circumstances. I wouldn't be too worried.

He seemed to have lost the mobility that he showed in pre-season. Must have been for an all you can eat Chinese last night.

The only way he could have been worse is if he spent the entire second half wellying the ball into his own net. In fairness. this is true He actually used his pace on two occasions to get past his man on the counter, crossing for the Cisse chance when Itandje came out and smothered it and also played a good ball across to Amalfitano (which could have done without Cisse's touch). He was actually bordering on OK for portions of the second half.

Impressive: Bigirimana, Anita, Perch, Amalfitano Decent/acceptable: Harper, Williamson, Jonas, R.Taylor, Campbell Poor: Tavernier (shocking start, solid the rest), Cisse, Obertan (horror show first half, OK second), Gosling

He had a couple of neat enough touches. Glad he's got his debut.

Tavernier looked comfortable from the moment the goal went in, tbh. He made a mistake for the goal but his all round game looks better than Simpson's already. Plus, if he actually learns from the positional error he made tonight then he's a better bet than Simpson, who makes the same errors every few weeks. Good overall performance. Did the job, a few decent individual performances (Obertan looked much better second half) and no pressure to score in the home game. SHOULD be comfortable. Plus, Amalfitano looked very bright. Hope we get to see him start a game soon.
