  1. I’m fairly disappointed with how the window has gone. While not hating Simpson to the same extent as a few posters on this forum right back was the obvious position for us to improve. Other than that, with Steven Taylor fit our starting eleven looks good. However in my opinion with the increased number of games we’re going to be playing we need a bigger squad. If we are unlucky enough to see Senegal beat the Ivory Coast for ACoN qualification our strikers will be Shola, Sammy, Campbell and Obertan and Vuckic playing out of position. We look well stocked in midfield but beyond Cabaye, Anita and Tiote our players are kids/ unproven/ have not impressed thus far. I was really disappointed that we lost Guthrie, he would have been perfect to have in our squad this season. Reliable against weaker opposition but also good enough to start against the better teams we will face in the Europa League and Cup matches. Defensively we are ok as long as Perch doesn’t get injured as he will provide cover for both full back and centre back positions. One long term injury however and we’re relying on Anita at full back (to be fair I haven’t got a clue how well he’s played in this position at his previous club, could be excellent) or Tavernier / Ferguson. Ryan Taylor’s injury was a kick in the balls. Centre back Willow is decent. Keeper wise, I don’t know about anyone else but I was seriously worried Krul would be sent off last night leaving us with Elliot (unproven/ a bit rubbish) or Harper (old) for the Europa League games. As for ambition, I thought Newcastle United’s ambition was to attempt to break into the top four, with the first eleven we have it wouldn’t have taken Chelsea/Man City money to do this. We almost did it last year, we were two wins away (I think, can’t be arsed to check for the pedants). This season a lot of teams have improved, some drastically. Swansea and Fulham have made some great signings. QPR have made so many signings that they have also done well with a few of them. Man U, Everton, Sunderland have all strengthened. Tottenham have maybe stayed around the same level with the only top level club looking weaker at the moment being Arsenal. Overall the games this season will be a lot tougher. We have kept our squad together which is great, but I can’t see us doing as well.

  3. Are BBC doing their transfer page today? Can't find it
  4. That's a good shout but the 12 game ban could very well put Norwich (and any other club) off. I forgot about the 12 game ban
  5. Can see Norwich taking a chance on him purely because of the Hughton link.
  6. 71 points. Meh. Have subbed in Barfa for McAnuff, not sure who my last change will be.
  7. Was Hooper always this stocky? He looks huge!
  8. Are QPR actually taking the piss? Levy must be feeling better now after the Modric deal.
  9. Don't understand what's so funny tbh. We need cover in the cb area more than we need another fullback now. Saying £4.6m is nothing. Its a pretty laughable statement in any context. For a target we identified a while ago to help us strengthen in a position we really need. €5.5m to improve our team isn't a great deal. Neither were the fees we paid for Xisco or Smith then. Money trees at the ready, were going in. The reason we've got money to spend is because we haven't gone out and overspent on other players. If we'd had paid £7m for Tiote, £10m for Santon and £20m for Cisse, we certainly wouldn't be bringing in Anita or anyone else this summer. £4.6m is a great deal of money, the club seem to think so, and if they think its too much for Douglas then I accept their decision. Good for you, I on the other hand think we're light and we could do with one more player in that position. From the reputation that Douglas has, if he can challenge Saylor for his position I don't think £4.6m is too much. And? Still doesn't mean £4.6m is nothing or no big deal. Yeah, so I think it's well worth the price and you don't. End of argument really. No the argument was about £4.6m being not a big deal. It is, and there really isn't any argument no matter how hard you try and twist it to fit. It's not a big deal in the context of buying a player which will improve our squad ffs. So you assumed that I was saying that £4.6m wasn't a lot of money in general? Do i need to loop this conversation like? No, you won the argument. Congratualtions on being right I've actually just physically facepalmed, i've never done that before, ever. Moving on... Yeah probably should have done that when I said we weren't really going to agree. Hope you enjoyed your facepalm Yeah you probably should have read my first response to you (minus the in case were not getting that) and you'd have understood. Yes i did, it was warm. Hope it wasn't too clammy.

For a target we identified a while ago to help us strengthen in a position we really need. €5.5m to improve our team isn't a great deal. So he is better than Saylor/Colo? Disagree he will strengthen the team rather than the squad in a way that a Simpson replacement would. People were talking about him starting games in Saylors place on this forum ffs. If we can guarantee our four cbs can deal with the increased volume of games without a long term injury, yeah, fuck it it's fine to go into this season with Colo, Saylor, Willo and Perch. In case of injury yeah, not many have seen enough to honestly say he should start ABOVE Saylor ffs. Love how you now change the point to Douglas or nothing rather than this individual deal being the case in point. The club seemingly think the fee is too much for a player who probably would be a squad player, thats enough for me tbh. It's great if we've got other targets lined up. As I've said from his reputation I don't think the money is too much.
