  1. Put it this way, I'd rather stick with Kinnear for the time being than bring in Grant, give him 6 months to get to know the place and the squad before getting fired for it all going tits up. Which it would.
  2. As you say. Absolutely in their own hands and nobody else's
  3. If Grant is the bees knees, dog's bollocks, your chocolate lollipop, the gold pot at the end of the rainbow, and Jah's gift to football management, how comes he's out of a f***ing job then? The Chelsea squad were behind their own near-success. They got to where they did despite of Grant, and not because of him. Did I say any of the above? I said he'd be a great option, considering we have nobody at the club capable of managing a premiership club, and he clearly is clearly is? no dude. that's exactly my point. half a season with Chelsea, the reigning champions, is not clear enough indication that he can do it in the long term. remember Roeder had done great as caretaker, and we all know what happened the following season. who is to say Grant wouldn't have gone the same way in his 2nd season? the fact that he remains unemployed despite the ridiculous claims that his achievement with Chelsea was "fantastic", tells you everything you need to know about what the footballing world thinks of him as a top club manager. a nothing, meh manager. Again, incorrect. Grant took over on September the 20th, hardly half a season. And they werent reigning champions, they only won the Carling Cup the previous season. Finally, if your point about the footballing world is in fact true, then what does the footballing world think of Kinnear? Again, I repeat. I am not saying Kinnear is a better manager. I'm just saying that if the time came to replace him, Grant would blatantly be the wrong choice. Two wrongs don't make a right. Look back at my Lada/Skoda analogy. There is absolutely nothing special about Avraam Grant. To move forward as a club we need to appoint an exceptionally talented if a little inexperienced manager, IF that's the best we could hope for. Naturally we would all prefer managers of the caliber of Hiddink, but we need to rebuild ourselves to get to the level of ambition + performance that would land us a manager like him. Apologies if I got that piece of info wrong regarding Chelsea being reigning champions. I forget that Grant was in charge as recently as last season. That's the impression (or lack thereof) he's made on me personally.
  4. They wont have the facilities to cope with big attendences at res games etc Don't some games take place at SJP?
  5. Massive player when on top form. Shown us what he can do once or twice in two years. He can fuck right off imo
  6. I've an idea! How about we protest by attending reserve and academy games en masse? Does that not send out a message to the club that we're not satisfied with the current level of first team football? In one way we'd still be supporting the club financially, while it would be easier on our pockets, while making a statement of discontent at the same time! Can you imagine 30k people showing up at a reserve game? Would knock the directors on the head big time imo, and the sarcasm will not be lost on them.
  7. I had mine read last Tuesday. What's your point? I thought phrenology had been thouroughly debunked. apparently not i had my polarity reversed as well. Before Tuesday I looked like this Since Tuesday I've looked like this
  8. I had mine read last Tuesday. What's your point? Grant is a better manager than Kinnear - is that clear enough. Oh I do not disagree, and if you read the thread, you will know that isnt what I'm saying. I just think that despite Grant probably being the superior manager of the two, he's a lifeless no mark jobs for the boys manager all the same, and they are BOTH not what I would want at this club. Just because Skoda is better than the Lada I currently own doesn't mean I would jump at the chance to get one. I'd rather get a Ford at the right time, and avoid both of them.

  12. Clever thinking ! Yup. Very good point made. But then, what if Harper steps in as deputy, does so well that he's made number 1? That would be some dream
  13. aren't they still in the CL? big phil was sacked before he got anywhere near it to be fair... Aye, but he's been sacked before he could get anywhere near where Grant got. Both points still stand. both points? first one stands i guess, second is only because he was sacked surely? not really a fair assessment imo Course it is, Grant wasnt sacked mid way through the season. Scolari was. huh? so the 'far superior' you put in front of scolari was meant to say what exactly? seemed to me it was sarcy and was implying that grant was at least the equal of scolari, which i can see no basis for other than a decent season with chelski where they ended up with nothing Theres more basis for Grant being a success than Scolari. Grant didnt win anything, but he took them a few points within the title and one penalty within winning the champions league. So? So why are people saying they wouldnt take someone who got to within a whisker of winning 2 trophies? Beggars cant be choosers, and he certainly has more reason to be picked ahead of Steve Bruce or any of the other managers that people are hyping up. Not really. It's like when Vialli won a domestic trophy and a european trophy with Gullit's team. And Grant over Bruce? Come off it man! Grant is a no-mark manager. When you have arguably the biggest and best squad in world football, you're bound to come close.

  15. midds is going to burst a blood vessel reading this thread Naah when he reads it he'll update his Facebook status to Midds hearts Steve Harper
  16. Excellent write-up top bloke indeed
  17. Care to expand why ? IMO, Grant is a no-mark jobs-for-the-boys manager. Has done nothing significant in his career. When the time comes to part with Kinnear, which IMO should be by the end of the season at the latest, we need the right manager in charge. Grant is not the right manager to move us forward in my eyes. this, but i wouldn't say i'd rather have JFK if it came down to either of them being given the gig mid-long term I agree with you to a certain extent. It's just that despite him being the inferior manager of the two, I like the passionate JFK type over the cold and soulless Grant type. ah righto, yeah grant is a bit of an empty vessel i suppose hopefully it'll end up with neither in charge

  21. It's a marvellous world where a t*** can take the piss out of his customers year after year and they worry about upsetting him if they complain. Is that what you say? Ok let's take a hypothetical situation, where by you were a Newcastle supporter living in a remote mountain range, doing research for years, and did not have access to television to watch your beloved NUFC. Would you stop following the club? Do you follow the club purely for the entertainment value? Or do you support the club in a competitive spirit, wanting it to be the best and win every game? Movie-goers are customers, theater-goers are customers, if you go to a restaurant you're a customer. If a restaurant was badly run and managed, you'd stop going, end of. We are f***ing football supporters! There is none of this customer service s****, regardless of how much you pay for your ST, corporate box, or Sky subscription. This is why, what Ashley does is of paramount importance, as it affects the club, and our lives. In turn, and since he owns the bloody damn thing, it is even more important that we establish a good relationship with him and his people, for the good of Newcastle United. Ah f*** it. Wrote the above post in between 5 phonecalls at work. Dunno if it still makes any bloody sense. Just because we don't stop going, doesn't mean we can't complain. Say my brother was running the family restaurant, which had been with us for generations, and I had to keep going back, but he was doing a really s*** job, I'd tell him what wasn't working and what would, and I'd keep telling him until he got it right, and if he kept getting it wrong I'd complain louder and louder, and if he still looked like going under, I'd plead with him to sell to someone that knew what they were doing. Or I could just keep earting whatever slop he served up and wait it out until it all went down the pan. no you wouldn't. the point is, at the end of the day, your brother will do whatever he pleases. In any case, the analogy is nowhere near our situation
  22. In a way that is true. But then again, if he admits to not knowing much about how football is run, then what better place to start than down by the training pitch? Plus, as has been mentioned, he's there to show support in the absence of JFK. Nowt wrong with that imo, and if my boss did that, I'd feel a lot better about it. Can't disagree with that but i can't help thinking its just a good bit of PR from him. But you see, it doesn't matter what his motives are! He's getting himself to the training ground, and if he really is spending 3 days a week down there, it can only be a good thing in that it brings NUFC and the squad closer to him, and he can hopefully witness first hand our dire need for a bigger, better equipped squad. PR stunt or not, it's a good move.
