  1. Considering the comical circumstances, I have to hand it to Carroll, he was fantastic last night and deserved his goal.
  2. And just as objectively you'd have to agree that Phil Neville was a far better footballer than Shearer. Using the competitions won by managers managing different teams, in different leagues, with different financial clout, at different times is far from as objective a way of measuring as may seem. Apart from with us Keegan has never managed a team which has anywhere near the resources necessary to win the big stuff. He's always taken on teams which were a challenge and needed turning around, and as such he got each of the teams he managed promoted as champions the first full year he was in charge (I think). He very nearly won us the league 3 and a half years after almost being relegated from the second division. Are those lesser achievements than winning the Dutch league with PSV, or a cup with Barcelona? Well, objectively, yes they are, but for me I'd rather have Keegan as manager than Robson because given the same resources I think he'd win out quite easily. Phil Neville isn't a better footballer, but rather a more successful footballer. FFS so is John O'Shea. Ronny Johnsen, Jesper Blomqvist, Nicky Butt....etc,etc! Its a frightening list to say the least! Yes, but it's the truth, and a true measure of a player who has had a successful career or not. Same goes for managers. And sorry like, for me, Sir Bobby Robson is 100 times the manager Keegan ever was. Keegan's time at NUFC the first time round is a fairytale story where everything just clicked. His undoubted charisma and enthusiasm and love for the club was the drive behind everything that happened.
  3. According to JFK, City have offered '£5m not a penny more' http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2009/01/29/shay-given-saga-not-over-until-city-bid-rises-72703-22808893/ If thats true then I hope we do tell them where to go. As has been said before, £14m for Bellamy and they offer £5m for Given... they are just taking the piss! Not a cat's chance in hell of us selling him for 5m late in the transfer window unless he has some sort of minimum release clause. Which he obviously hasn't or he'd be gone by now. Exactly

  6. Think he's the worst manager in the history of mankind. Possibly even worse than Michael Scott.
  7. I think we'll bag Ebondo and another defender, possibly McAnus I also think we'll get one of M'Bia/Donadel/Veloso Nile Ranger to make his first appearance for the first team in the next few weeks as well.
  8. No need to make a hole in your pocket TL!! I'll happily donate my Lhasa Apso
  9. Where's that from? ZOMG!!! Sacre Bleu!!! Are you actually questioning El Gol?? blimey!! what's next?
  10. To become the most expensive goalkeeper in British football history, and rightly so. Farewell Shay Given. Watching you pull off a magnificent penalty save in the flesh was an absolute joy. Now bring in some players with that please. Forget Michael Johnson, we'd only be asking for more trouble. Let's not go for cast offs from anywhere else either. I'd rather buy first teamers from lesser clubs/leagues than expensive cast offs looking for a new contract somewhere else.

    SHEARER

I'm tempted to say wait until the summer and give him the job whatever happens. If we go down, he can start his new job away from the limelight and just get on with things. If we stay up, then him taking the job could give a lot of promise to a bright future ahead. Either way, I am starting to believe more and more that the next NUFC manager can only be Alan Shearer.
  12. Oh my "Owen's injury also means former Leeds and Manchester United marksman Alan Smith will not be allowed to join Liverpool. " Eh?
  13. That idea is awful. The same thing was done with Keegan, and that failed miserably. If Shearer is to be brought in, he must be appointed based on a 5 year plan to re-build the club with specific targets and milestones. I don't believe in this bollocks about Shearer having to prove himself elsewhere. He's played under some great managers, and will have learned a great deal. He is a massive figure with massive presence. All he needs is an experienced number 2, and he'll be set.
  14. Anyone reckon we could swap Zoggy with Andy Johnson? Fulham is about Zoggy's level where he could shine, and Johnson imo is the perfect foil for Andy Carroll (for me he's our first choice striker until Oba returns)
  15. ffs we haven't gone down YET!! Oi Dave, any chance we could get Prozac to sponsor this forum?
  16. Get a grip, and I don't mean of your penis as you look at a photo of KK. of your throat Nixon? ooooh la la t'internet hard man the internet frenchman,.....unusual for a frog to get involved in someone elses fight,... surrender monkey. that's a bit rich coming from a blinkered die-hard fan who thinks the sun shines out of Keegan's blow hole. The one true surrender monkey in all of this mess. oooh! you'll be getting PM'd abuse any second now dude...! In the words of the great man himself: I Cannt fkn wait :clap2:
  17. WE GET THE f***ing POINT!!!! Don't you have to go throw darts at his picture behind your bedroom door or summat?

  20. I used to love KK me. Some of the mongs on here have truly made me start to get sick of the sight/sound of the legend that he is. f*** off onto the Keegan thread and w*** each other off in there
  21. oh dear, I remember people saying that people like me were talking nonsense when we said Ashley was turning the club into a 2nd rate selling club again, and heading for relegation through selling players and looking for cheap replacements. When exactly do you think we will match the european qualifications that we have seen for the last 15 years, under Ashleys strategy ? stretch the question further and ask if fred would have matched the european qualifications we've seen for the last 15years ? would he have just spent the banks money to try and emulate it ? Lets go back to the appointment of Allardyce, and the point made by HTT, when he said that it was thought to be a good appointment at the time of someone waiting for a big job, coupled with the fact that his track record suggested he could build a pretty good side with little money. Whether he could make the top 4 is arguable, and we won't now know, but it suggested that the Halls and Shepherd were aware of this need, in the short term. All of which I agreed with, and made no secret of the fact that I also was pleased with the appointment of Allardyce for the same reasons, along with a new direction and way of doing things at the club. I'm pretty sure that their ultimate ambitions would have remained as high as they always were, which are much higher than Ashleys, and I'm also pretty sure that at the current moment in time, they wouldn't be sitting back and watching the team heading for relegation and try to reverse it. Mind, the amount of u-turns by people who urged them to keep spending, and backed Souness in his spending spree, but now say how wrong it was, is quite amazing. You make so many good points and then take a giant plop all over your argument when you say such ridiculous things like: "which are much higher than Ashley's". Just what kind of bullshit is that? You really think Ashley would rather own a mid-table club than a club competing for honors and qualifying for Europe? You really think the Halls and Shepherd are the only 2 ambitious fuckers out there in football? ffs!!! Yes I do think their ambitions were higher than Ashleys. You won't get a club competing for honours and qualifying regularly for europe by selling your best players and operating and replacing them on the cheap. Ever. For about the 59th time, how do you know Ashley is not just steadying the ship financially for now before plowing more funds when the time is right and the club can take a breath? How do you know it is NEVER his intention to compete for honours and qualify for Europe? Afterall, if he's a greedy cunt, he'd want to generate more revenue, hence raise the price of the club, and sell at a higher price! I know, it's called logic.
  22. If there's any truth to this, then Owen is fucking us over by staying with us through to the end of his contract. Maybe it would have been best to let him go for 6 or 7m, get him off the wage bill, and use that money towards buying a young up and coming striker.
  23. agree with the sentiments there tron, but fuck me are those song lyrics?
  24. Sorry Rich. You're a decent fella, but your argument is cack. Why? because NE5 and two others told us so.
