Also, the way we construct possession from the back is becoming frustrating; Full Back's drop too close to the CB's and when they do receive it it's normally inviting a square pass to the supporting CM, and mostly results in going back to the CB who has to clip it forward. Then when you have Colback dropping between the CBs it is ineffective as he's not going to carry it and break the oppos midfield line. It's another square pass and we fail to penetrate. Also, waiting until 84mins to replace Gouffran who was totally ineffective for Atsu who is quick and direct, good 1v1, is quite unbelievable.

Thinking back to it now, it is absolutely frightening the apathy that engulfed our support during those horrible days. NUFC was so desperately depressing back then it actually affected me personally, it really was awful. Going to the matches and being surrounded by people who just refused to complain against a man so obviously destroying our club, it felt like the club was trapped and he genuinely was never going to leave. Without a doubt, SP directed the nations attention to this cunt's incompetence, and definitely made him feel unwanted- and as people have stated, he is an ego manic who needs to feel like #1. It absolutely had a huge contribution to his move to Palace. I am incredibly grateful to those fantastic people- arguably they twisted the clubs arm into hiring a competent manager ie Rafa. Wonderful people. Still, without being negative, it is very concerning but also hard to forgive in the majority of our fanbase for possessing such a gutless, defeatist mentality to 'supporting' the club during this era. If you were to call those Pardew sympathizers something derogatory I would absolutely contribute. I didn't feel safe bringing my children to the match whilst SP were going around. It was awful. Thankfully they are gone now and I can bring my family to St James' in safety and not have to worry about these angry people.

Lads, we're never ever going to play 2 up top with Benitez Ever! It will be 4-2-3-1, or maybe 4-1-4-1. Rafa favors the 3 CM's, especially the #10. Defensively it allows us to sit on an oppo's #6, whilst if needs be he can drop in to create 5 in midfield. In this league a fair few teams will play a sitting midfielder. Attacking-wise, it means we have 3 players playing in front of the oppositions back four in between the lines, when our Wingers come inside and Full Backs go high. The aim with this is for Shelvey to find one of those 3 players free in pockets of space, or to ping diagonals into the Full Backs. Our build up play is slow, and it does allow us to take up good positions and control the game- we were able to do this comfortable against 10 men ffs- but I do agree that there needs to be a personnel change in the AM position. Perez isn't a 10 for me, he's a ST. Diame is thick as fuck and shouldn't be near this team tbh, so we're already out of options. Think it's a minor frustration that we're going to have to live with for this season until we can invest in a good AM for next season. I still would love to see 4-4-2, though.

Forest targeted that right hand side for the whole 2nd half but got very little success out of it because Yedlin and Gouffran were absolutely superb. Diame's lack of work rate was a fucking disgrace tbh and he made that side of the pitch considerably weaker. He was poor in the build up to the corner that won it for them. The match in general was fucking horseshit. An incredible display from our players and I thought Rafa got it spot on, but there is nothing worse than losing to that miserable shithole of a club.
