We played well and then we capitulated. Thats why it was a draw, the positives were balanced out by the negatives. It is a set back as it isnt good for a side to learn they can capitulate from such a positive situation. I imagine Rafa will try to get them to focus on both parts. We've left ourselves under pressure though when we should be as clear as Brighton now. We're now a couple positions away again with important games coming up.

Not down to Shelvey, delay from Atsu was the problem and powder puff Perez missed the sitter of the game. Yeah Atsu largely completely cocked that up. Both shots were under pressure so they rushed them. Both probably still should have done better. Perez's is worse as he's a striker who should be specifically trained at shooting under pressure

Aye its well embarrassing. Our form is good. Right but context does exist. Players aren't non emotional robots that strut about playing well as their forms been good. They've just conceded a win from 2-0 up and missed several sitters. The new signings gave us a boost, that is our first negative since then. That was an absolute waste of a superb situation we had ourselves in. Who knows again where this could go now.

Can we not even get two weeks of happiness man. 2-0 up and missing absolute sitters from 2 yards out. Only Newcastle.

Gayle's goals were simple finishes, but there's something to say for his positioning & making the correct runs. When was the last time we were 2-0 up at half time?

Need to just keep our heads now & perform in this game also. Rafa will have them sorted. Slimani would be another welcome boost.

Hes really good at reading situations. He's half a second faster than most other players when a pass is played recently and nicks in for superb interceptions or just pressures them immediately. Added composure when on the ball now and him and Shelvey have been getting better and better as a central pairing.

Palace are going to find it hard losing Zaha & Sako. Will be relying on Zaha coming back and flying instantly as he did last time. Benteke still on just the 2 goals this season.

:lol: Take a look. We have 13 of the same players in the books. Who, on that season’s form, would you bring? It is mainly our midfield and defence which is different. Keepers are the same. Looking back I basically agree. Cisse was probably still more capable of the odd goal than our current strikers which has been the massive issue, plus during Lascelles injury i'd have said our defence was worse now. In the main i think we have a healthier side now currently though. Saying that you have to compare to other current Prem sides and their ability to spend atm, we're not competing vs previous Newcastle. We'd likely beat them. There's basically 2 wins between 18th and 9th atm. So i think it's difficult to say we're underperforming, the likes of West Ham, Palace, Southampton should arguably be doing much better. It just comes down to the fine lines that I dont think Benitez is control of. We lost 2 points at Burnley & 2 more at Palace to penalties. 4 points would have had us 12th & just 2 points away from being the best side outside the top 8.

We've picked up 2 wins & a draw from our last 4 away Prem games which is pretty good considering the other was Man City. We'll need to keep stepping up away from home.

Yep, never felt a goal was imminent tbh. They came at us but we always had the bodies back to defend. Never really stretched to much. To be fair Zaha basically had everyone on toast, he was by far their best outlet. Can't tackle him or read which way he's going to go, all our players get back to cover. He changes the game on his own, superb player. Yes and despite his dominance and that he had Yedlin beaten every single time, they didn't worry us that much really. They were pretty toothless upfront when chances fell their way. Clark cleared two off the line in the space of 10 seconds, Id call that stretched really. Zaha could've done better with a couple chances himself. I think we actually defended decently in numbers beyond that though yeah.

Kenedy has been involved in all 4 clear chances we've had in the last two games now, hopefully him coming off today was due to fitness again.

The officiating today was awful really & I rarely bother to comment on it. Seemed pretty biased to me at times.

I think we've failed to beat Swansea, Brighton, Palace and Burnley in our last few fixtures, you go down if carry on like that, we have to beat teams around us, discounting Burnely who aren't really. Posts like this are getting a bit silly imo. Our last two results are above standard. Palace have beaten Burnley, Southampton, Leicester, watford & Drawn with Man City, Bournemouth, West Ham & Swansea in their last 10 games. The only side they have lost to is Arsenal twice.
