My point was that Best was up against a League One defence whereas Shola has played two PL teams. It's obvious we'd get more chance against Scunthorpe, don't see how you can use that as a stick to beat Shola with.

Leon Best was missing chances against Scunthorpe. Already makes him better than Shola. How?

Has he? Shola hasn't been perfect but he put decent shifts in against Arsenal and Sunderland. Best wasn't that much cop against Scunthorpe

Weaker in defense and up top. IMO better in the midfield. Hopefully the better midfield will make up for the shortcomings in attack by creating more chances. Having said that, if we do bring in another striker and IF he is quality, then hopefully the attack might even by stronger. Again, more ifs still I guess. Just have to wait and see.

We've lost Nolan, Barton, Carroll, Routledge and Jose. Brought in Cabaye, Marveaux, Ba, Obertan, Pieters(?) If we bring in a striker and if Ben Arfa plays 20+ games then I can't help but think we're stronger this year. Lots of ifs, granted, but there's no guarantee Carroll will score loads this season, no guarantee Nolan would've or that Barton would've kept up his form.

What would convince you that Carroll had been replaced? Striker with similar goal record? striker with PL experience? big striker who is good in the air?

I agree, I just don't think dropping Shola will solve all our problems. We still desperately need a new goalscorer.

It's certainly a big gamble on Cabaye, Ba and Pieters. I don't think we will replace Barton tbh. Could go either way. Whilst there is evidence pointing to the fact that Barton would do well this year, there's no guarantee. Same with Nolan.
