The bit about Pardew giving youth a chance has yet to be proven IMO. He's made statements to the press about giving youth a chance but I personally think he could've given Ferguson a lot more game time last season, he seemed hesitant to play him even though when he did actually come in he was perfectly fine. This season Vuckic has yet to even make the bench despite a positive pre-season. Pardew has let players go on loan which is good but I don't think he has proven to be a massive supporter of youth (yet!). Some interesting points raised in your post OCK but I'm not sure if you're putting the improvements down to Ashley? I agree good changes has been made in Ashley's reign but that's got nothing to do with Carroll joining the academy as he arrived before Ashley.

If we play 4-2-3-1 then playing inverted wingers wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. It doesn't matter that Marveaux didn't play there for Rennes. Players can change positions when they move clubs! Carr even said himself, I think, that Marveaux should be suitable for both wings.

Agree with the first point Tooj, as for the second, I think that's more down to the calibre of players he's had since then.
