Just won a trophy and qualified for the CL but haven't signed anyone by mid-June, on balance everything's shit innit m8.
-
For members it was definitely £60 for CL last time.

Wanna take us through how over a decade of transfer windows under Mike fucking Ashley are remotely relevant to our current situation?
-
Bruce wasn't too good for even Ashley's Newcastle though.
-
You signed up in April - 6 weeks either side of that we won a cup and qualified for the Champions League (again). Cheer the fuck up ffs.

Can we have talk of Brentford's transfer policy in the Other Club's Transfers thread where it belongs pls.
-
Chelsea are the ultimate tory club. Soulless ladder pullers, dodgy AF with zero consequences, know the price of everything but the value of nothing. Hope it all comes back to bite them one day somehow.
-
The common usage of "purple" on here always baffles me, since it was used by one of the biggest wankers ever associated with our club to justify him and his mates doing the bare minimum to keep us afloat
-
Cruel world, innit.
-
Congrats, hopefully you'll have a bit more class about it than the last one.
-
Glad the players are all laughing and joking when we haven't even qualified for the CL yet.

Can't recall Bernard ever taking a FK.

The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League
Interpolic replied to Rich's topic in Football
A lot of people in this thread assume every game is played on paper. Except ours They're proven wrong almost every week but never shift their outlook. It's bizarre. -
Never ceases to amaze me how wound up people get by the Champions League being called the Champions League like
-
With all that said about DCL, our transfers are generally opportunistic - it's been the main characteristic of most of them and good value often seems to be prioritised above the gaps in the squad. So if they think they can get Delap for £30M or whatever then I could see it happening. They'll be worried about Isak playing 3 games a week so would see Delap as a genuine rotation option. Obviously getting him ahead of Man Utd etc would be a significant challenge. I think if we get Delap we'll have to leave big gaps elsewhere though. If we kick the can down the road on CB, RW or GK yet again it's a fairly big risk.

The way I look at it Liverpool had a situation a few years ago where they had 3 top forwards in Salah, Mane and Firmino. The backups weren't up to much but those 3 were freakishly resilient and played almost every game. We've arguably reached this point with our midfield already and are perhaps a signing away from having it in the 3 forward positions too. Liverpool then went a bit more scattergun and were able to have 5 or 6 good forwards for those 3 positions but we are miles away from that in terms of our budget. So you're looking at backups who will rarely play and you can go the Osula route or the DCL route or both. Or the other option I'd like us to explore I guess is forwards with versatility, who can play predominantly wing or central when needed, which we sort of have with Gordon already. If the new RW can play striker then great, but we'd arguably still need another backup striker.

These sentiments here are why I'm super chilled about who we sign. We've basically never had a Newcastle regime with this much credit in the bank, and our transfer misses have been minimal. I'd prefer not to sign DCL either although I did like him (many) years ago when he was putting in good numbers for Ancelotti. The backup forward slot is hard to fill for any club because anyone anywhere near Isak's level will not settle for loads of time on the bench. All signs are we'll need to be quite creative with our spend this summer and CB, RW, GK are where the big money needs to go imo, probably followed by a midfielder and a striker for not much.

Not bad for a keeper tbf.
-
we technically didn't win for over a month in Nov/Dec but there was an international break in there and it was 2 draws/2 defeats. Tbh there were no signs before the 9 game winning run that this would end up being an outstanding season, that sequence really changed everything
-
We've lost 2 consecutive games only once this season. The longest we've gone without winning is 4 games. We've had periods where performances were ropey and/or we've suffered very unexpected losses, but overall we've been remarkably consistent. If we've got Europe next year then we'll need a much better squad though aye

Sheff Wed fans showed themselves up when they fumed at our fans for wanting to feel safe at a football match. Can only assume they have more than their fair share of backwards divvies among their support.

100%. Monkey off our backs and the world is our oyster. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives and nothing will ever be the same again. Lose 0-1.
