It's difficult to say, I lean towards the idea that he's bought into Pardew's "opinion" that decent cup runs mean signing more players or risking relegation.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pardew classes his main lesson from this season as that you shouldn't win so many games before Christmas, spread them out over the whole season for a perfect top 10 finish without any of that irksome criticism of performances that have recently occurred. The self-preserving, smug, gutless arsehole that he is. As a club we are wasting years on nothingness, it's not just Pardew's fault but he definitely deserves a fair share of the blame. Depressingly it seems he'll nevet get sacked.

Met a couple of Newcastle fans in a pub in London last night, they both said they thought he was a good manager doing a good job and I should direct my anger at Ashley. Not fabricating any of that.

Probably telling him they're in awe of his efforts since Christmas to avoid any chance of Europe and also to avert much/any dissent from the media and fans. When the club is there to simply exist, turn a profit and plug the owner's main investment this guy is doing a phenomenal job.
