  4. The fact he's "only 21 and started a handful of games" is why people are annoyed at his inclusion. He's never looked ready for the Premiership, maybe he's improved behind closed doors or something? Fuck knows. Either way if him being on the pitch and Marveaux not even being in the squad has anything to do with their footballing ability, and not down to other concerns, then Pardew is off his fucking tits. Marveaux wide left in a 4-3-3 would have been slightly less visible that Cabaye tonight. At least Sammy is positive, always wants the ball and tries to take people on. If Marveaux was playing he would have been in for Anita or Sissoko. Might as well moan about Sammy starting over MYM. Fucking depressing that a player born in 1997 (Armstrong) is making our bench mind Aye because Marveaux hasn't been a match winner playing on the wings before... I like Marveaux a lot but he isn't a wide player, he might have had the odd good game out there but will have had just as many where you forget he is even on the pitch. With Cabaye going he might get more games but I doubt they will be out wide. We really haven't seen enough of him there to decide this as a cast-iron certainty - this is what I was being told when I was saying he should be in the team ahead of Jonas for an entire season - I didn't buy it then and I don't buy it now. He might be better central but he's sat far too many games out when a much inferior player has featured ahead of him out wide. He never gets played there so I'd love to know how everyone's so certain he'll disappear. From what I have seen he doesn't have what it takes out wide, he is lovely on the ball, can spot and execute a fantastic pass but none of that makes him a wide player. The closest player I can liken him to who did work well out wide was Solano but he was so much more involved, had more ability to get away from a player despite not being massively quick and would get back and not leave the full back stranded. I struggle to think of a single part of Marveaux's game that makes me think he would work well out wide. Just my opinion obviously. I don't think Gouffran or Sissoko are wide players either, they still get played there. Really don't think there's only one position on the pitch for a player like Marveaux. They are both more involved in the games though. Both work hard and both have contributed their share of goals and assists. I would love us to set up with Marveaux being given a role where he can just drift in and out but I don't think we are really good enough for that. Cabaye was class because he would do all the things Marveaux could but would also get about the pitch and help control the midfield. So was Marveaux when he was involved, man. Find it very unfair that the guy gets called invisible when he hasn't been that way when given a run of games and is inexplicably nowhere near the first team.

With Cabaye going he might get more games but I doubt they will be out wide. I've never really considered him a wide player either but I'd still have him out there ahead of the energetic but ultimately inexperienced and not very talented (by the Premier League's standards) Sammy Ameobi. I think his dissapearing man act is overplayed a little too, certainly when we consider his replacement. Sammy may have improved and I hope he has, I just cannot see it being anything other than a typical ungainly performance from him. Marveaux can go 80 minutes doing nothing and then stick an inch perfect ball to the back post, he has that quality, just not the graft that Pardew demands. On the other side of the coin Sammy may run straight into the full back 10 times but that time where it works, maybe even by fluke and he gets through then we have a very good chance. His persistence and willingness to attack a full back counts for a lot which is why I don't feel the same as those who are astounded/angry that he is starting. Obviously if he isn't fantastic now I will be wrong and Marveaux would have definitely been the better option.. Is anyone angry, I'm not keeping up. Personally I'm not even saying Marveaux should have played ahead of Sammy tonight, Marveaux has been that far away from the first team picture for so long Sammy is probably a better option.

  7. It was a poster on here who said that. I don't know who watched the local ITV news but Pardew was on having a whale of a time, the day he loses his best player for £20 million and he was having a good old chuckle while talking about it. Job done, innit - couldn't be more in Mike's good books.

I want to feel like this but i still love him Like a girlfriend you picked up who wasn't all that great looking at the start, but then developed into an absolute beauty. She then realises she can now do better and cheats on you but you take them back because they are gorgeous, everything seems fine again yet out the blue they do the dirty on you again! When she finally decides to break it off for good, you can’t help but still want them back even though they've hurt you so much but you know they'll never come back...fuck i'm broken :'( :anguish: :anguish:

  13. I think Pardew talking about our players leaving adds fuel to the fire personally, in a similar way to when other managers talk about players that aren't their own then the increased speculation is likely to unsettle them. Some clubs complain to the authorities about their players being tapped up in these circumstances but those clubs don't usually want to sell their best players and don't have their manager playing head salesman in the press.

Ba too, everyone knows about the clause but nobody forced us to put such a ridiculously small minimum release clause in there. could have been that or he goes elsewhere who will meet his demands Still an example of us not getting decent money from cash rich clubs, which is the comment I was responding to.

  16. He definitely started talking about the possibility of Cabaye leaving last summer before anyone else was, his motivation for that is debatable I suppose. Cabaye's wife tweeted about wanting a "nice" transfer in February last year. Maybe it was a joke, but the player and his entourage must have been looking for the next big payday. It's what footballers do. Doesn't explain why we hadn't seen any rumours in the press of Cabaye departing for months and months, then suddenly Pardew's prattling on about it in a press conference and things seemed to start happening. I'll accept the club is very willing to sell at the right price, but really cannot believe that no one was aware of Yohan Cabaye until Pardew put him up for sale in a press conference. FFs every decent player is on the radar of clubs that can afford to buy them, and every fucking agent is working behind the scenes to make sure those clubs know their player is available. We don't have to facilitate the sale so keenly though, do we? Less than a week after Pardew had started his latest sales pitch Arsenal had bid and the player was in a huff, refusing to play in a League game. My hunch is that Pardew is encouraged to do this as a big fee now and then funds steady squad investment with minimal money going in.

You keep saying this, but whatever we spend on the direct replacement the amount we get certainly does matter for future transfers. Carroll's sale saved us from having to actually invest in the squad for the next couple of years. I suspect this will have a similar outcome. This sale will take our profit on transfer fees - since Ashley took over - to something around £40m iirc. Next 2 or 3 transfer windows sorted.

Annoying but not unexpected, seems like we've been trying to flog him since last summer. No coincidence that no permanent incoming transfers have occurred in the mean time.
