  1. True, first 15 minutes aside we've been the better side. Can't believe that call, the ball is yards from Gouffran - it's not even close to hitting him.
  2. If Haidara is fully fit then I don't understand the team selection.
  3. Aye, maybe never again was a bit of an exaggeration but he hardly ever played there again despite it being the only position he'd looked handy in. Jonas playing loads of games for us on the wing last season. Unbelievable really.
  4. Will always confuse me how he was looking a decent central midfielder for us in that 6 game winning streak in 2012, then was never played there again. Ask Pards.
  5. Can remember Keegan moaning like a bitch after that game and thinking he'd lost his positive spark.
  6. Norwich fan at my work saying they're getting linked with Jonas. Also says we've repeatedly been linked with Pilkington over the last 12 months, not that I've seen owt myself.
  7. Yes that's a fair comment. Agree with this. We played a bit of a mixed style under Hughton, there's no way it was all hoof balls and knock downs though - at our best we played some really entertaining football, some of it direct and some of it on the deck. You could say the same for Bobby Robson's teams, not that I'm saying that Hughton's wasn't more direct. You could argue we've played better football this season in terms of keeping it on the deck (if you think that's all that there is to it - I don't) but back then we had less technically adept players but wouldn't often sit on a lead, and were generally involved in more entertaining games.
  8. It's outrageous that anybody recorded that, typed it up and published it when anyone with an ounce of kindness would have took him straight to a ward.
  9. Fairly sure that Fat Sam spent quite a bit that summer, most of which was under Ashley too. £6m each on Alan Smith and José Enrique (then hardly ever played him), £3m on Rozehnal, £2m each on Fayé & Bèye. He signed Caçapa, Geremi & Viduka on Bosmans but they would have been on very decent wages & signing fees. His shitty, wasteful, irresponsible spending was arguably the reason that Ashley panicked and brought in his mates to oversee transfers that led directly to Keegan leaving. Wasn't there also a rumour at the time that the reason that he got the sack in that January transfers meeting was because he told Mort that he wanted to sell most of the dreck that he'd just persuaded the board to purchase in the summer? Aye, he spent £15m-20m, although he did re-coup some of it. Dyer was sold for decent money off the top of my head.
  10. Ah man, the make the first 70 minutes as eventless as humanly possible thing, again?
  11. This been on here before? http://www.vice.com/en_ca/vice-guide-to-newcastle/the-newest-fan-of-newcastle-united
  12. Roeder had us playing good football for half a season. The following season he had an injury list that would cause Pardew to top himself.
  13. It's ranked on % won tbf, Spurs have won more games at home than us. They've played 40 games more at home & have only won 7 more than Newcastle. Impressive either way. I know, that's not what you said though - we were looking at a league table. I agree that Newcastle's Premier League stats are canny. If you didn't harbour an iniquitous will to contradict that's all you needed to have said in the first place. Says you. Wow, self awareness through the roof.

  16. Aye the 2nd point is what I was getting at, was definitely a major reason for the appointment seeming sensible at the time.
  17. Nee worries. First read it as 2nd June. He's good, but he's not that good
  18. I'd say this was a pretty logical appointment for where we were at the time tbh. Certainly made more sense than most of his other ideas. You're right there. I can't remember whether I was a pro/against the decision but on the face of it the decision made sense however I think the majority of supporters he would evolve with the additional resources he had to hand rather than morphing us in to Bolton mkII. Massively, as that's what he always said in the press and for some reason it seemed believable at the time. Also we looked an amateur outfit under Glenn Roeder, lots of injuries and often looking ill-prepared for games which appeared to be in stark contrast to Allardyce's meticulous approach with his army of nutritionists, physiotherapists, psychologists, etc. Seemed Bolton were always in prime condition for their game at 3pm on a Saturday or whenever. In other words, I think I fell for a lot of the Allardyce fanfare in the press.
  19. It's tricky to compare them tbh - I was doing it on the basis of their time as NUFC players and couldn't separate them due to them having different attributes in their time with us, but over the course of their careers it's Cole. That's mainly because Ferdinand was a bit of a late developer in comparison to Cole and didn't spend years of his career smashing the goals in for a top club. If you're talking about on their best day then Ferdinand did have the ability to rip a team apart on his own whereas Cole was an outstanding finisher and a great complement to creative players like Beardsley, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, etc.
