If we sold him for around £20m then I think we'd spend at least half of it fairly quickly, whereas otherwise we seem to have these windows where we just meander along doing very little. Generally make a profit or spend very little. Couple of recent exceptions were surely down to having the Carroll money in our pocket.

Think it's becoming quite clear that we'll spend very little without a big incoming fee to fund it. Makes me feel like I wouldn't be that pissed off if we shifted Tiote or someone for big money if we replaced him and plugged a few other gaps, preferably in the same window of course.

This. Think last year's transfer window was really, really a great one. This year it's not been bad, just not as good as last summer. Shifting Best, Lovenkrands, Smith, Guthrie off the wage bill and only bringing in one first team player and a few kids is a mediocre window at best.
