I've given Bruce nowhere near the level of stick that others have on here, but he's a fine one to talk about commitment the way he treated Sheffield Wednesday, particularly when he was having a hard time on a personal level. Missed this discussion at the time but just wanted to point out for anyone not aware that Bruce's questionable loyalty goes back a lot further than last year. Take this article from 2011 when he was slagging off Bent for joining Villa, he already had a long list of instances where he'd fucked his club around to serve himself.

The football was actually worse than I was expecting, the results were better. And as we all know from experience that ordinarily a season built on shit performances is a house built on sand, it hasn't left me particularly impressed overall. Plus he's very false and self-serving. Somehow he seems to realise he's shit but also has a massive ego on him. And his mates in the media are arseholes.

Was it not because he was a bit of a no-nonsense defender and was up against players who could play a bit? Even in the 90s there was a sense that international football was different to club football and required a bit more finesse all over the pitch. Regardless it is obviously weird that Bruce didn't pick up at least a few caps, but I guess that's what will happen if you get a run of a few managers that don't fancy you.
