  2. To be fair, isn't he our top scorer this season?

    Graham Carr

I agree, especially about Ruud Gullitt. It kind of makes me sick when we are hiring managers now like McClaren who are portrayed as nice guys but we know fine well they'll fight tooth and nail for every penny of compensation despite being a major reason for taking us down. These fakers have no shame. I don't think they're holding on for the money. I think Carr looks at what's going on and tells himself "the coach isn't up to it," or "we didn't offer enough for player x, he was my first choice and we missed out." Pardew and McClaren will blame the transfer policy or lack of funds, or squad size, or injuries, or whatever else. No one really feels like they're the weak link. There's always something else to blame in their mind.
  4. In order: 1) Roger Schmidt - obviously isn't going to happen. 2) Jose - obviously isn't going to happen. 3) Rafa - probably isn't going to happen. 4) Juande Ramos - obviously isn't going to happen. 5) Martinez 6) Flores 7) Steve Clarke 8) Karanka - doubt any amount of money will stop him from managing in the Premier League next season. 9) Brendan Rodgers - probably thinks he's above the Championship. He isn't. Just thinks he is.
  5. Why? Massively overrated, and a terrible record at Wigan and Everton. He won a cup with Wigan. And FSS, they're Wigan. We're not. Everton has been patchy, for sure. But, you can make a case for him: - He's managed in the lower leagues, so he knows what it takes. - He actually has a football identity. He knows how he wants to play, even if it doesn't always work out. He's trying to implement a system, not just field the best 11 and hope for the best. - He works with younger players and isn't afraid to get them on the pitch. With the state of our squad/recruitment we could certainly use some of that. - His ridiculously positive attitude might actually help in turning around our team of bottlers. He wouldn't be my first choice. But he's got some selling points and I think he'd be up for it.
  6. Not a chance imo. That he'd come? That we'd approach him? That it'll work out?
  7. We should probably snap-up Martinez the second he's available.
  8. Maybe there's a carbon monoxide leak at Villa Park. It would explain so much.
  9. Thanks Mike He's not my favorite poster but I don't think we can pin our relegation on him entirely.
  10. IOS automatic fill ? Either that or he has a weird name for his bartender. Be careful whiskey man.
  11. Genuine question as you made valid points earlier. What differs them that makes them more entertaining than Mourinhos sides? Mourinho's "park the bus" tactic is basically: sit deep, let them have the ball, because the more they have the ball the more chances they'll make a mistake, a mistake we'll hopefully exploit. Mourinho's main idea is to contain, break the opposition's attacks. Whereas Simeone has more of an active approach. He controls the game in a way. Indeed his team decides where the opponent will be allowed to attack. Atletico invites, forces the opponent to attack in areas where they know they will be able to defend with ease. Near the touchline. As they say in Spain "the touchline is our best defender". Atletico reduces, limits the opponent attacking options as well (playing down the middle or behind the back four is impossible ) making the opponent's very predictable. Same for the attacking play, Atletico decides what they want to do, they're not just hoping for Gerrard to slip or something. For instance: they will stretch the center back partnership, with runs from Torres or Carrasco or overload on the wings with Juanfran or F.Luis, and then switch back to the center to Griezmann in the hole or Saul. Plus all the passion, the counter-pressing, the tidiness and technical ability of the players, the commitment, the intelligence and also their somehow classy Latin nastiness, makes Atletico far more enjoyable than Mourinho's Chelsea. That's more than a little uncharitable to Mourinho. Beyond "parking the bus" he's brought nullifying the opposition to an art form. It doesn't matter how the other team attacks, he's very good at setting up shop to frustrate them. He was also one of the first (as far as I know) to focus a lot on the transitions in training before they were the trendy thing. There's a reason his counter attacking style has been so successful.
  12. Some managers try to be difficult to beat. Some try to be difficult to stop. Some try to stay in a job as long as possible before being found out. The first type win cups, the second win leagues, and last one manages Palace.

  17. With them playing Chelsea next and us playing Villa there's a great opportunity to fuck their goal difference advantage. If that goes I think the mental edge goes to us (as well as being 4 points clear with our fate in our own hands in that scenario.)
  18. Benfica midfielder. Massively overrated (based on the couple of games I've seen him play).
