Newcastle United vs Arsenal - 5/2/2011 - Pre match despair
jdckelly replied to ponsaelius's topic in Football
its a fact that seems to be more and more overlooked -
zubar? or is he a cb, wolves backline in general is rather poor
-
no one can complain about this if it happens, free transfer= low risk and leaves more cash in the kitty for other areas

this, the money the cl offers gives the clubs in it way more spending power than the rest of the league can summon (apart from arsenal where wenger is allergic to spending money), combined with the prestige being in the cl offers means players want to join these clubs to play at the highest level and get the wages those clubs can offer thanks to cl money. The only ways to break in are either one of the cl clubs having a nightmare of a season (by their standards not ours) or a billionaire owner, the former doesn't happen often the latter option is being closed off by uefa so the big clubs remain big and everyone else is merely their feeder clubs. Fact is if man utd real madrid barcelona etc come along for tiote or enrique or whoever we are not going to be able to keep our players, don't like it but its a fact of football life If they're under contract then we can hold onto them. We don't have any obligation to sell to bigger clubs at all. thats when you see players handing in transfer requests and openly saying they want out And they can be rejected. Simples. Look at Blackpool for example with the whole Charlie Adam to Liverpool saga. as madras said he was on his way to spurs but beaten by clock but rejecting a transfer request only delays a move, as a contract runs down and said player won't sign new deal any club will get to the point where it will sell to get something for him rather than lose on a free

tbf the more i look into the head case thing (thought he was one myself) the more i think its exaggerated the only incident truly headcaseish is the granny incident but there was legitmate reason behind that if it was handled badly by him, apart from eccentric taste in cars and home decor which has nowt to do with his attitude on field or in training the only thing i don't get is not wanting to play for roi

a provisional 40 man squad no less and somehow barton isn't one of the best 40 english players. Says it all really
-
reasonable enough
-

-

anyone in ireland who hates themselves can listen to this on radio or watch on setanta think i'll watch the rugby instead personally -
Do the local media brown nose the club/Ashley too much?
jdckelly replied to Big Geordie's topic in Football
rather a lot -
unbelievably petty but i enjoy that fact
-
improves our defence as you said gives nolan more freedom to go forward but also gives barton more freedom to go wider, cut inside too much to help our cms vs fulham

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1353438/John-Williams-forced-Blackburn.html?ITO=bookmark-chromeext the strangeness at blackburn continues, insofar as i know he's fairly highly regarded as a club chairman isn't he
-
linked with alliediere in a few papers......... yay............
-
ugh now theres a moron, he had a column in the irish examiner as part of a group of columns written by fans of the traditional big 4, not a bad read the 4 usually, when keane got them promoted they put in one for sunderland (never quite worked out why but probably just the keane thing) and my god were his columns bad to read badly written and half the time mentioning us in some fashion thank christ after the season where roy left he was dropped
-
as odd an opening to the rant as it was its worth reading as it raises some decent points of coarse its built on the assumption of ashley reinvesting the cash which is a large assumption
-
similar for me (except i don't notably give 2 shits about english national team except when world cups etc roll around and the hype begins and i amuse myself with how they'll let everyone down this time) probably option 3 for me and my country

Had a fanzine out years ago & has been a go to person on NUFC ever since. Most media will go fanzine editors when the shit is hitting the fan, the fact is our fan has had a lot of shit hitting it so Wraith is quoted more often than most. He's a rent-a-gob man. He knows that what he says is often spun as the "fans' view" on events yet never seems to pass up the opportunity, whereas I think Mark Jensen, for example, does turn down plenty of similar offers. Wraith's clearly got some ego on him. while i'm not fond of the whole thing the media get 1 person to represent a diverse and normally divided fan opinions on the thing (except on ashley where its how much of a cunt is he rather than the stated fact hes a cunt) at least jensen when hes quoted are usually sensible enough

on vela bolton were close to getting him but according to coyle his agent wanted additional fees etc for his client and himself on top of loan fee and covering wages to arsenal http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/bolton-wanderers/8291434/Bolton-manager-Owen-Coyle-hits-out-at-Carlos-Velas-agent-after-pulling-out-of-deal-to-sign-Arsenal-striker-on-loan.html
