Admittedly I've been a complete armchair fan this season due to ballot failures and away tickets being out of reach these days meaning I've only watched the matches on TV so maybe he's doing loads of good stuff off the ball and working hard off camera that I'm not seeing but he just seems to be a passenger in that team right now.

Gateshead 6-1 down now! What a way to lose your first game of the season.

The worst Newcastle player you've seen in a match
Wallsendmag replied to gjohnson's topic in Football
Marveaux at Goodison is one that'll always stand out. That 1st half performance was up there with the most gutless of performances I've ever seen from an NUFC player. Remember being absolutely furious when he came jogging back out after half time only for Pardew to drag him off 3 minutes in to the 2nd half. -
Atmosphere at the Merseyside Derby always appears very flat, especially at Anfield. It's a really poor Derby. Manchester one isn't great either. The best one I find is North London and it's on this weekend.

Really? I've never felt that. Only a few pubs within easy walking distance and if you were unlucky to be stuck at the back of the lower tier you can't see the goal down at the Kop end due to the overhang of the upper tier. I must have been there about 15 times and other than the 4-3 game I've always found the atmosphere to be pretty subdued amongst the home fans.

Chelsea in talks to leave Stamford Bridge for a new stadium in Earls Court. https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/sep/10/chelsea-in-talks-new-stadium-earls-court

Still don't know what Arsenal were thinking when they built the Emirates. Top tier looks fine but why build the lower tier at such a shallow angle when you've got a blank canvas to play with? View is awful. Its like the lower tier of the old Wembley but at least they had the excuse that they simply bolted seats onto terracing.
-
I was at Chelsea away for the final game of the 22/23 season and agree that the view from the Upper tier where I was, is absolutely fantastic. Added to that it's a great stand to generate atmosphere. Never been in the lower tier but I'd imagine it's nowhere near as good there.

Yes it's very much allowed so it's worth doing. Obviously having something in writing, ie a will, makes it even easier.
-
Aye it's just been on SSN about Man Utds stadiums plans. They're looking at 100k capacity.

I don't think there's any real point in a waiting list now as the way things stand the numbers who drop off every year wouldn't make it worthwhile and there'd be people waiting decades to get one. Interestingly (and slightly morbidly I suppose) my dad enquired at the ticket office over the summer about what happens when he's unable to attend anymore or passes away (he's 72 but still in decent shape) and if his ticket can be passed down/transfered to another family member, ie me! when the time comes and was told that this is allowed so even an inability to be able to attend any more or even the death of a ST holder doesn't neccesarliy mean a seat becoming available. Tbh any seats that do become available due to a ST holder not renewing I think they'd rather sell to members on a match by match basis for more money.
-
We don't operate with a waiting list so there isn't one to join.
-
We'd fill 80k right now tbh. Maybe when we have the inevitable downturn and crowds drop off it may prove to be too big, but then again football is growing in popularity all the time so that could well compensate. If we did go to 80k it would be great if they could set all U18s tickets at a tenner and look after the next generation of fans.
-
And both are far too small. Got best part of 100k people on ST waiting lists for tickets. If we're building a new stadium 60k is pointless and doesn't futureproof us. I'd say 70/75k would be about right.

Stadium situation still needs resolved I think but based on what I've seen so far (and last season) they won't be far off and I'd be amazed if they finished outside the Play Off places.

Was keeping an eye on it through twitter and there didn't seem to be much going on so I think I picked the best game. Gateshead were excellent, tbf Barnet look a very good side as well. Expect them both to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. 1,441 there including 138 from Barnet. We were sat next to the segregation divide and there was some good banter between the fans. Almost all good natured. Really good atmosphere there yesterday.
-
Couldn't make my mind up between Gateshead v Barnet or Heaton Stan v North Ferriby today so I've let the bairn choose. He's picked Gateshead, we get in free there so I'm not complaining so will make do with following the Stan game on Twitter. Hope everyone who's going to a Non League game today with there being no NUFC match, enjoys it. Always a good day out wherever you end up.

Anyone under the age of 65 is struggling to remember the last time we won a trophy.

Couple of my mates managed to get seats in the Clock Stand and and some others got into the Roker End. Reckons there were mackems in the Clock Stand who spent most the match walking about trying to see if any NUFC fans had managed to get in. Said it was a bit hairy like but they survived unscathed. Remember a group of mackems managed to get into our end for the return at SJP towards the back of the Leazes East corner. About 20 of them celebrated when they scored but nothing happened to them and they were allowed to remain for the rest of the match.

Winning when nowhere near our best. Usually a very good sign. Just beat a very good Spurs team who'll be top 6 again this season. Happy with our start. 5th with 7 points from 9. I'll take that.
-
They look very average again this season. I look at their team and there's not many I'd want here. Probably spent best part of £1.5Bn since Ferguson retired as well
-
6. Didn't lose any of our big hitters. Think we might next year though.

Honestly mate I know he walked away with a lot more than he put in, which upsets a lot of people, but he did that because he totally transformed the football club and we were unrecognisable from the club he took over to the club he left. Same reason I'll always love Amanda Staveley. She's made a tidy penny out of NUFC no doubt but again left the club in far better shape than she found it so for me she deserves every penny she's walked away with.

I stood in that crumbling ground in the 80s and early 90s. I got soaked when it rained whilst watching some of the shittest players I've ever seen play for NUFC. I looked on as every talent we developed was sold as soon as an offer came in. I despaired as we hurtled towards division 3 and total oblivion. Hall came in. Nobody else would touch us with a barge pole lets not forget. He brought in Keegan. We then went on the have the best few years I've ever had as a Newcastle fan. 92/93 to 95/96 was just magical. The football was on another planet to what I'd ever seen before. I watched as SJP, which was an embarrassment of a football ground, was transformed into one of the best arenas in Europe. We celebrated as we broke the World transfer record to bring Alan Shearer home. We played in the UEFA Cup, then we played in the Champions League, just a few years after nearly being in Division 3. Great times. The best times I've had in my 40+ years as a supporter. Thanks to Sir John Hall. That's why I'll never say a bad word against him.
