The League Cup 15/16 - Sheffield Wednesday (h) in third round
Wallsendmag replied to summerof69's topic in Football
They only had 11k at their home match last night If we're all deluded and not even a big club why all the interest in playing us? -
Aye but tbf, if they didn't go to the match it'd be impossible for them to see their BEST mates and 2nd cousin once-removed. Where else can they have a quiet natter about fat uncle gaz and his latest relapse? What about those who are happy that the club's starting to act like a football club again? are they allowed to go back? No because you are not a proper fan if you go to games, not until it's been declared acceptable on twitter. You're killing the club, paying for a ticket and sitting on a seat is killing the club. Implies you don't understand the point tbh, what does it have to do with actual f***ing seats in a stadium and what doesn't it have to do with pumping money into an institution that has been wilfully neglectful of the playing squad, spiteful towards the club's fans and disinterested in success on the field. Ground should have been half empty years ago, might have seen a bit of investment or a new owner sooner. Whether the stadium is full or empty... MA will not give a toss. Too much money is made from TV and sponsorship deals, MA could easily offset the loss of the revenue from matchday by selling two players on high wages. The whole "giving money is killing the club" is totally wrong and wide of the mark. Of course he gives a toss. Gate receipts are his 2nd highest revenue source. Name me any businessman or company that would quite happily sacrifice that?

Good post apart from where you state there's similarities between Ashley and Sir John Hall. When SJH took control we were on the bones of our arses, heading for the 3rd division for the 1st time in our history and playing in a ramshackle old ground where the majority of fans got soaked to the skin when it rained. He put his money where his mouth was, brought back Kevin Keegan, broke the world record transfer fee, gave us Champions League football, brought us to within a fannys hair from the league title and one of the best stadiums in Europe. I don't begrudge the bloke a penny of whatever he took out. Ashley on the other hand........

Pretty much my thoughts.

We doubled that. Our fans are twice as good as theirs though tbf. Tbh nothing to be proud of paying to see Newcastle and moaning about Ashley. In my view whoever went to the game is f***ing scum....and f*** the kids only chance to see them bs. Well done to the Sunderland fans I say. NUFC Mugs Good game by sound of it tho Dear me. Calling young bairns who go along to watch their team play scum. A new low for this messageboard. Of course you could have stood outside SJP last night and called them to their faces rather than hiding on here but you know one if their dad's would have flattened you straight away so I can understand why you didn't. I didn't go last night because I won't waste any more time or money watching cup games until I see for myself that the club are taking them seriously but if others want to then that's fair enough. Sounds like those that did had quite an enjoyable evening.

Wouldn't be surprised if they won today. They usually struggle against the other bottom teams (excluding us) but always seem to pull off an unlikely result when they play the better sides and nobody expects them to get anything.
-
It's this policy that's got them in the bother they're in, on the pitch and financially. Always looking for the quick fix, whether that be chopping and changing managers all the time, filling up their squad with loan players or paying top dollar for players well past their best who are really only after one last big pay day. Long May it continue.

Never seen him play before but after reading the last few pages on here I'm writing the kid off already. He'll be back at some middle of the road French team by this time next year. That's if they allow him back into the country.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United - Sat 22nd August @ 12:45pm (BT Sport 1)

Routine 2-0 loss. -
David Kelly against Portsmouth in 1992 stands out and any goal against the mackems. When we beat them 5-1 my mate got thrown out for "over celebrating" when we scored our 2nd.

What a load of nonsense. Anita's been here 3 years and done absolutely nothing of note (West Ham at home last season apart). Colbacks had 1 season, scored 4 times and managed 6 assists for us. He's also a better defensive midfielder than Anita as well. In saying that I'd still Colback wasn't in our first XI either but he'll be an ever present this season, fitness permitting. I've got several friends over in Eindhoven who warned me Anita was hopeless when we signed him but I put that down to them just not liking him because he was from Ajax and they are all PSV fans and hate everything Ajax. So far they've been bang on.
-
Pretty much my feelings on the subject.
-
Not true tbf. Colback will at least put a tackle in and try to unsettle the opposition whereas Anita doesn't even do that. The only thing I would say in Anita's favour is that he will at least try to pick out a more adventurous pass when he has the ball it's just a pity he's not very good at it. Let's face it if we're relying on these 2 as first choice midfielders we're only ever going to amount to bottom half also rans.
-
He scores a few goals and occasionally blocks oppositions goal bound shots then so at least he's got a couple of redeeming features to his game. Anita just doesn't do anything. Not a great tackler, passing isn't great, doesn't score goals from midfield, can't impose himself on a game. Just nowt really. In an ideal world neither would be in our first team but unfortunately both will get plenty of minutes on the pitch this season.
-
Colback has had more good games for us, scored more goals for us, and made more goals than Anita has done. A goal against Brugge, an excellent display against West Ham and a decent hour against Southampton apart, Anita has done the square root of sod all in his time here. He certainly has not "had a few really good games" for us.
-
Not overly excited about this when last seasons 2nd worst defence in the league is still shipping in 2 goals a game.
-
They've paid off more managers in the last 4/5 years than any other club, they've signed a load of has been players on massive wages who are worthless and despite them crowing about their amazing attendances they generate the lowest revenue per seat in the league (around 15 quid iirc when most other clubs are generating twice that and more) so their big pink stadium isn't any use to them either.
-
They don't like Rangers either after 10,000 Jocks came down to Joker Park for Gary Bennetts testimonial back in 1993 and spent the entire day kicking the mackems all over their own city. Still recall a few scruffy mackems getting interviewed on Northern Life the following night showing off their war wounds. The ironic thing was that we played them at Ibrox a couple of weeks later for Ally McCoists Testimonial and they couldn't have been more hospitable that night.

Expecting to get beat of the likes of Southampton and Swansea man. Decent teams, yes, but just shows how low the fans expectations of the team have dropped.

Reading that thread on RTG about the lad wearing a Newcastle top you can see why Sunderland is still stuck in a 1980s time warp.
