Championship clubs tend to lose more money than L1 clubs due to operating costs being far higher. Losses of £12m when your turnover was less than £11m is a pretty big loss tbh.
-
Losses of £12m your last set of accounts showed?
-
That's an extreme situation though going from the worst owner possible to the best. Sunderland had and have neither. As a general rule of thumb it's infinitaley better being in the Premier League rather than losing money hand over fist trying to get there.
-
No club in the Championship can be regarded as being in a good position compared to being in the Premier League. The Premier League is the richest and best league in the world. Clubs are guaranteed £120m a season just for being in it, whilst clubs in the Championship lose more money than in any other league anywhere as they overspend chasing the holy grail of the Premier League. If they'd been in the Premier League I doubt they would have lost the best manager they've had in years to Stoke City.
-
There are certain ways around it. For example the prize money we reportedly won for winning that tournament in Saudi was just obscene, but clearly we won't be able to do what Man City have done, or Chelsea before them.
-
They've already invested well over £200m on new players, the stadium and training facilities so my guess would be that they are prepared to invest a lot. To mention them in the same context as Mike Ashley is pathetic tbh.
-
You were a steady Premier League club 6 years ago and were all delighted with the job Sam Allardyce was doing so that isn't really true is it
-
Not at all marra. I admire your bottle. If the roles were reversed and Newcastle were a lower league club going nowhere and Sunderland were suddenly the richest club in the world with the brightest possible future imaginable (it gives me shivers even typing it!) there is no way I could bring myself to post on a Sunderland forum and be in and amongst all their euphoria. It wpuld be like my worst nightmare so like I said, I admire you for that.
-
Aye marra I seen that. Your last post before our loss to Sheff Wed was May 2022. Attracted back by your biggest result of the season.
-
Well the social media reaction suggest I'm right. It's the first time I've seen Sunderland fans get something trending on twitter this season with the winning at Hillsborough isn't for everyone patter (even though they also beat you there this season ) and RTG went into overdrive. You signing up straight on here sort of reinforces my point as well but anyway, you'll be made welcome regardless and only you can change that. We aren't like those on your board. We have a proud record of zero convicted nonces on here for a start conpared to RTG's 3 for a start! Welcome.

Their reaction to our defeat has been ridiculous It's literally been their biggest result this season and that's no exaggeration either. The plain facts are however; both us and Sunderland now have exactly the same chance of winning the FA Cup, ie zero, but we have the consolation of a League Cup Quarter Final coming on Tuesday whilst we chase a Champions League place whilst they play out a 6th successive season in the lower leagues. In the grand scheme of things, yesterday was a futile, hollow victory for them.

Agree. Personally I'd be looking to offload him. He's not not reliable (fitness wise) and being unavailable for over half the games we've played since he signed is no good to anyone. He's 31 next month so these injuries are only going to get worse. Plus we will be in the position this summer to spend big on a top striker (really big should we make top 4) to either compete with Isak or play alongside him. The penny pinching days are long gone.
-
I've said from the start I don't rate him. He's not good enough. I understand the main reason he was bought was to weaken a direct relegation rival and for that reason it worked put as Burnley went down and we didn't. However this season he shouldn't be getting anywhere near the amount of minutes he has been but that is more down to Callum Wilson being so unreliable. Hopefully now Isak is back we'll be seeing far less of him on the pitch than we have been.
-
Sadly his wage means we're stuck with him.
-
Did well again. Decent Trippier deputy.
-
Looks far more comfortable with Schar alongside him. Bad day for him today, his first loss in a NUFC shirt but he's still class.
-
£100k a week for a carthorse??? Just as well we're minted!!
-
No blame. He's just miles behind Pope.
-
So was I. Sadly I'm not getting 80k+ a week to look devastated. If that's his best redeeming feature you"ve got to admit the game is up for him. He's dreadful. Ideally he just doesn't need to play again now Isak is back.
-
I like to think I can judge a player. Said from the off he's useless. Can't get away with planks like him. Sell him, Lewis and Murphy this month and add £5m to the transfer kitty.

Suddenly puts a lot of pressure on the Leicester match. -
At this stage I'd give him a free. Get him off the wage bill and get him playing at a level he's more suited at.

Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Worrying that he looked slightly out his depth against a L1 side. -

Still remember when people were outraged that he didn't get a squad number He's dreadful! -

He's got no confidence whatsoever in front of goal. Tbh he just looks weak all round. The likes of Longstaff could have a future here as a sqaud player but the likes of Murphy and Lewis are even miles short of that.
