Sad day, but expected. Will go down as my favorite ever player for us. The standards that he brought as well as moments like giving Miley the armband.
-
Was about to nod until the fickle part. Every right to criticize them today. Even Howe admitted that.
-
We needed that bear pit atmosphere like ManUre. Second half was far from it.
-
Construction would probably come in two phases, where only the first half would be built
-
I for one would still support the plan to name some road or alley the "Howe way"
-
It does echo Pardew. Europa League, lost the quarterfinal to Benfica midweek. I recall we went straight into a derby at SJP right after. Won't talk much more about it apart from a certain knee slide.
-
They started rattled but they simply were resilient. They proceeded about their gameplan after we've spent all our energy, mentally and physically in the first half.
-
Not a good look if true.
-
I love that he went toe-to-toe with Xhaka. I wish we had that battle on for longer.

I think there have been many seasons wherein we've flirted between both in one year tbh, and thus average out midtable. This year's been the most midtable one ever. We're not in any risk of going down, but also not in any momentum to challenge for something.
-
Wissa - imagine that the game is 1-1 in a derby and rather than your 50m #9, you turn to Osula. Damning. Elanga's only use has really been to ensure that we didn't lose to Barca 7-0 tbh The rest I could sort of live with if only that it gave us some depth.

Midtable mediocrity-o-meter

Our best season from him was the 4th season. That was built on winning against the teams we were supposed to beat. I remember a stat about not losing a single game against bottom half opponents then. This season is the exact opposite, but unfortunately we're not pulling the results from the big games either.
-
He is but at least he has that ping of a cross and the odd shot in him. Elanga meanwhile honestly makes someone like Obertan good.
-
When we hauled off Wolte for this guy and one of the first things he does is to dribble it out of play under little pressure. Just knew from then we were going to lose control.
-
Or say "can't fault the lads for the effort today" as if they actually wanted to win
-
I thought for a while when I saw the lineups on the telly that "Oh finally, 4-2-3-1 with Wolte behind the striker; yes please". Then the kick-off happens and Wolte was popping up on the left side of midfield.
-
It's heartbreaking tbf. Guy went from the man who got us a trophy in March 2025, to getting doubled in the derby in March 2026. Stages of grief and all that
-
Terrible decision to get him off.
-
Is City still interested?
-
Not Eddie out, but I think I'm no longer Eddie in. Tired of these weak-minded, inept collapses with no signs of improvement.
-
Just lost control of that second half completely. Much like many times this season. To get doubled down by them is a disgrace.
-
To add to that, ManUre having an absolutely honking season last year with no European football still having more transfer market pull than us at our best, with CL football to offer.

Ah well. It’s just gutting how we fought well for 3/4 of this tie, but many people will see that scoreline and laugh. A microcosm of this season’s NUFC - perform well one moment then just commit many errors the next. Black and white stripes fit us - that’s how our form has been. Just hope the team will use this as fuel on Sunday. They usually do.
