So all I'm saying in response to your point is, the compensation money was likely always there, but Newcastle negotiating the way they did meant you received a much lower fee than you should and could have received.

Sporting had a release clause and we paid it. You made up a silly amount to try and play hardball and it backfired and you ended up getting a fraction of what you demanded. They were 8 points off the top of the league when he was dismissed. That's not well off it, in regards to Spurs. The fact they had just lost Bale is even more reason to excuse his sacking.

Villas Boas was hounded out by player power at Chelsea after 8 months when John Terry questioned his tactics in front of Abramovich. Chelsea won the FA Cup and Champions League that season as well.
