I think Carsley could’ve give them a decision to make and the lower salary would’ve appealed along with the optics. However he was a disaster in the media (whether you think that is important up to you). He had a mare against Greece apparently (did not see it) and on top of that give no actual sign to anyone he wanted the job. Quite the opposite in fact.

Well i think if we take a step back and think what international football is all about to the majority of people is thought of a countries best players and coaching staff versus another’s. It doesn’t really get much deeper than that. Obviously over time the need to win or develop is so great that the odd country has imported players and coaching staff which has blurred the original point of it all.

Problem is if Carsley had no appetite for the main job then he shouldn’t have been in place for the U21’s. Think he lost his nerve. Need to replace him with someone who won’t. Or except U21’s manager is solely for developing players for the main team.

Should have been brave and stuck with Carsley and give him some media training. Makes a mockery of the St George’s Park setup. Worked fine for Spain.

Surprisingly ambitious appointment. Cant see us doing much in the heat 2026 mind and if his contract is only 18months we’ll be back to square one for the 2028 Euros on home soil.

Didn’t feel there was much improvement from watching them for my only previous time when they played SJP the first time. Number 23 still the standout player. Maybe the midfielder with the long ponytail also looked to have some potential.
