Totally agree... Him or Rossi!... That and stopped pissing about at the back... To be fair Italy played well that day...

At least now we can say Gervinho has been linked so we can change that other thread title...

Our striking options are embarrassing. However, luckily we have quite a lot of choices in wingers/am positions. Bernard, Neymar, Lucas, Oscar, Hulk, Hernanes, Coutinho, Jadson, Osvaldo, Kaka (??), Ronaldinho (??), Wellington Nem, Willian. We lack however a great number 9... Just like in 82... But we had the guy in your avatar + Falcao, Socrates, Toninho Cerezo, and also Serginho who was a better goalscorer than both Fred and Leandro Damiao. That team is probably the greatest team ever not to win something and possibly the greatest national side of all times. Wouldn't disagree with any of that other than I always thought Serginho was poor... Eder was some player too...

I really liked him as a player. You could see he had real quality, a great touch and vision to go along with it. Just a shame he was tectonically slow otherwise I think he would have been excellent for us. As things were he just couldn't keep up with the pace of the game here. I watched that tournament... Viana was decent but you could tell the rest of the team were doing his running for him... He was never at any stage looked like a world beater... Nice left foot but couldn't see how he would fit into our team at the time or our league... And so it proved... It's one of footballs myths that he was exceptional in that tournament... Yeah?...How did that feel?...I mean...Didn't he as the guy above said win the European young player of the year or something?...Viana could've definitely been a class player... He did... But not all awards are deserved... Could've... Should've... Would've... Didn't... Hasn't... Won't... He's never scaled the heights... You'll struggle to google the history of EYP award winners... It's no great guideline for sure if Viana is anything to go by... I don't even know what I posted, I just thought in trying to copy you. Never seen so many dots in my life. Supposedly there is a whole thread of them on RAWK...

Lineker couldn't lace Shearer's boots as an all-round goal scorer... And that's before getting to hold up play and assists... Best striker in the UK that I can think of and certainly in my lifetime... Beardsley is still the best player we've had...

Exactly. If anyone thinks this club is on its a**e after the bad season we've just had, it's nowhere near the sorry state it was in before keegan came to the club. I'll start with the 1st time round as a player. Here was a world famous, iconic, twice european player of the year who came to play for 2nd division also rans, Newcastle United. His arrival doubled the gates and soon we'd be back in the top flight. It was an honour for such a star to be associated with my club. Then his 1st spell as boss. The club was skint, SJP was in a terrible state, attendances were poor again and we were on the brink of the old 3rd division. Enter KK to save us from the drop and possible extinction. The next season we finished top 3 and back in europe for the 1st time in decades. SJP was full, week in, week out. There was a buzz in the city. We became regular top 6 finishers, and the relative success gave the board the confidence that SJP could be, and should be redeveloped to give us the magnificent stadium in which we watch todays passionless dross. Despite it not working out in his 2nd managerial spell and his ultimate departure, that simply can't undo all he has achieved at NUFC. IMO one of the best people to have ever been with this club. This... I remember those days well... And apart from the acrimonious departure his 2nd spell as manager was still successful looking at where we were heading again and the football we were playing...

I stand corrected though I'm sure there was talk of him also... As he replaced Robert at PSG did he not?...

Was amazing to see. What was more amazing was that neither had been Robson's first choice targets for each position... (Jeffers/Ronaldinho)

There talking about his book on TS... Sounds like it will be canny read...

Doesn't seem to want to work on my iPhone when wanting to use link... Any clues?... -
NUFC game would be the 3-4 away to Leeds under Bobby... Other than that France (3) v Portugal (2) in the 1984 Euros...

3-2 to the Orange's for those interested... -
He had 40 goals for England, I don't think it's unreasonable to think he'd have smashed Charlton's record if he hadn't been injury prone. He also had 118 Premier League goals by 25, Shearer had 104 at that age as a comparison (that's including his goals in the old First Division). Shearer had worse injuries... But he managed to remodel his game... Basically the difference between him and the pretenders to his throne...
