If we identify a player who would improve us we can still buy them though. It might cost us a little more but I doubt some minnows in the Argentine Primera are going to be giving it the big licks if we offered them above market value their players.
-
It obviously just comes down to them not being cutout for the task yet. They wouldn't be putting big bids in for defenders if they weren't serious. It' ignorance rather than malace I just wish people would stop pretending January transfer windows are some kind of mythical beast.
-
We should stop locking nonces up and instead put them through a GRUELING JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW.
-
We might be trying to land a Jean Paul Gaultier sponsorship or something.

In fairness I do think centre backs are a position where it's probably worth overpaying on. The ammount of shite CBs out there is ridiculous. Feels like finding a genuinely good one is harder than any other position.
-
Just for reference, the players Stan is talking about here are Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. He is aware of this. Why he has made these comments is anyones guess.
-
Surely more to it like as I cannot imagine us turning Lingard for 6 months down at £3.5m like
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what other people are seeing like but I think it's been clear most of the window that we're not doing too great. Our squad is absolute shite and outside of some obvious big money signings we seem to be really struggling to identify players. £25m and reportedly £80k a week for Wood is incredible. That's like 2-3 players worth of wages and transfer fees of Wood's quality

Aye, there's always some modern, sexy version of football which we all want to play, like Total Football, Gegenpressing or Tika Tika, but a pragmatic, defensively solid side has pretty much been the basis of most Premiership sides since as far back as I can remember. Tony Pullis' Stoke were 'negative football'. I deffinitely want the sexy football myself though.
-
Tagliafico - Gosens on the left and Trippier - ASM on the right could border on pervertion.
-
Also Gosens and Tagliafico could both play together.
-
A proper LWB is important if we ever want to go 3 at the back like, we need one. We need centre mids just to be able to play football at all like so they go top of the list.
-
Unironically one of the greatest videos ever filmed. The second one coming into shot is pretty much comedy perfection.
-
We've just bought Wood for £25m. I cannot imagine how much a CB in the Prem at the same standard of Carlos would cost us like.
-
First Atletico, then Sevilla, we may as well go for Vinicius next.
-
Fucking hell how did that happen?!
-
Hopefully this is a sign of something happening behind the scenes and the club stepping up the gears across the board.
-
I'm completely straight but I'd fuck the man daft like

It's not just about getting boddies in before Leeds. There's no reason we cannot be doing deals early in the window. For big money signings like Botman, fair enough, there's going to be resistance from the selling club, if the player is worth it play the game and get him at the end of the window. For the thousands of other players out there who we could be getting for £5-10m on low wages though there's really no need. Before spending £25m on Wood (who was a huge risk in himself given his form) we absolutely could have signed a player for pennies, that with some good scouting, would be of a similar risk. He might work he might not... You can apply that to any position on the pitch. We just don't have the capability of finding them it seems.

I agree but our squad is threadbare. Like I pretty much stopped watching after Rafa left and when I returned a couple year later we basically had the same squad only worse. We got rid of players without replacing them, we're very unbalanced too. It's obvious where we need to strenghen but we need to be bringing in 2nd and 3rd choices anyway. Waiting out for Carlos and/or Botman is fair enough but we're desperate for midfielders. Our bench is awful too. The later we get into the window the less time we have to gel players too. Like it was said last month, we needed to be going into this window with intent of building a squad capable of finishing around the euro challenging places over the course of a season. It would have needed us to spend money and have people at the club capable of spending it wisely. We can certainly do the former but we seem to lack the latter. We'll see how we are at the end of the window but if we still have an unballanced squad with dross on the bench it's going to be a pretty big task putting wins together. Even with a shiney new set of centre backs and a midfielder.

He's looked on WhoDcored and seen that Trippier has 'Strong Aerial Duels' hasn't he?
-
The best full back he's seen at NUFC? After 1 game where he almost cost us 2 goals and got beaten by an admittedly great run and leap for the equaliser? Like I think Trippier is class and will prove to be so but that's an insane claim. Again I don't think Edwards actually watches football, probably has one eye on the tele while playing on his laptop or something
-
I think Howe's main problem hasn't been his coaching like, it's that he's come in with far too much responsibility, which is probably partly his fault as it seems like he blagged the interview. There's some weird tactical decitions he's made which don't look good but I think we could avoid that if we bring some players in.
-
Aye that's fair enough just think it's a bit harsh to blame Lascelles for that goal. It's about as perfect a 1-2 then whipped ball in as you'll see. Prime Chiellini would have been wrongfooted by that, man
-
I'd be suprised if Luke even watches football man.
